Something that sounds good on a crystal flute. Also, BOA should try to get an endorsement from Lizzo.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Frank Zappa on this thread. I think his expansive library of music is an untapped goldmine for marching band. The only problem is that most of his work is too difficult for even the mightiest of bands. If any high school played it successfully, it would be considered a technical feat. Peaches en Regalia, Montana, and G-Spot Tornado would all be incredibly unique to hear on the field, if pulled off well.

I'm not sure this will ever be programmed... marching band is a youth activity! 😂

Nostalgia by Yanni
Listening to this right now, could see it on the field, though it may be best on the stage. However, I think it could fit well with some shows.

Yesterday marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams, and while some of his pieces have been played on the field, you may find a number of further possibilities mentioned in this thoughtful appreciation of his music: Ralph Vaughan Williams: a commemoration.

Went back and looked at some YT videos of the G-spot Tornado which he conducted as well. Really cool. On a different note all together. Another piece of music that would be cool to hear parts of on the field is New World Symphony by Earth Wind and Fire from back in the 70's as well. Totally instrumental!!

Paradise by the Dashboard Light came on during my drive to work this morning. Some of my friends would put the song on during our carpools to evening band practice. My best friend would assure you that you could get *anywhere* in town in under 8 minutes, so long as you had the song playing (important note that Camdenton is located in a rural county). So my question is…has anyone arranged this for band? It’s a fun, iconic piece, and I know I’ve heard selections using songs more inappropriate than this one…

I posted this in another thread, but..
Shows I would love to see...
1. Dark Side of the Wall - a Pink Floyd Mashup
2. Anything that incorporates They Might Be Giants... particularly from the album Flood.
3. Legit question... had anyone ever done the Gerry Rafferty Baker Street sax solo?

I’m sure it’s been done to death, but I’d love to see a show that integrated a bunch of 70s funk bands like Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, the Bar-Kays…there’s some virtuosic music to be had in there

Was listening to some Tower of Power on YT recently. Some live performances back in the 70's and oh my god. the Brass sound was simply amazing. Favorite was contrabass clarinet in We Came to Play. Crazy to hear that in a Funky song. Lol!! Earth Wind and Fire also has some really cool brass/instrumental tunes from early 70's as well, New World Symphony, Spasmodic, Sun Goddess etc... Another group with funky brass is War from the same era. Low Rider, The World Is A Ghetto to name a couple. And lets not forget Average White Band from that same era. This group originally out of Scotland. Totally blew my mind when i learned this recently. Soul Searching album from the mid 70's was my favorite

It might be interesting to see a show that implements any song from Give Up by the Postal Service. I feel like the concept of the album (lost love in a dystopian future) could be a pretty cool show concept

Genuinely surprised we haven't seen a larger band do a polar express show recently given the prevalence of "train" shows and xmas shows. Half of its soundtrack sounds like it's tailored towards something a band like Mustang would field. Replace a large portion of the complicated string parts of the original pieces with pit parts and have high winds just do the scale runs. Uniforms could literally just be pajamas
Pre-show ambience
(Motif Song/Opening Hit)
Mvmnt. 1
(Motifs)
Mvmnt. 2/Ballad
(Dueling concert baritones/euphs for vocalists for a more somber tone)
(Motifs but mixes better with ballad)
Mvmnt 3/Jam part
(Baris switch to trombones, keep the drumset but replace part of that part with drumline solo)
Closer
(motif song ends show with a variation on standard company front drill)

A lot of the music in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would be fantastic for the field! Obviously there's a lot of returning motifs from the first film that already seem like they would've been great on field, but newer additions like Shuri and Namor's theme are really really great pieces.

I feel like the universe wants me to suggest Donald Fagen's "New Frontier." I know how that song ended up being endlessly recommended to me by Youtube: that's Centerville's fault, because I listened to Fagen's version of "Ruby Baby." But then despite having never heard "New Frontier" over the previous 40 years, I also heard it for the first time on the radio last week.
Would have to pair it some Dave Brubeck, though.

Grove City's show this year included "New Century Dawn" by David Gillingham. I'm only just now listening to the original piece. Grove City did a lovely job with the part they played, but even though it's a pretty short work, there's a fair bit more that could be incorporated into a show, and I hope someone does that.

It took them a long time to lock it in, but by the end of the season, Walnut Hills was doing a creditable job with Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity." It'd be fun to see one of the top ranking bands tackle that one.

With low brass getting to the level it's been at recently it seems like this piece would fit well as an opening hit..
Phrasing would basically make marching this basically impossible but it would sound absolutely amazing if translated to a marching band sound with a strong low brass and mello line, especially 1:10 - 2:40

Tabuh-Tabuhan by Colin McPhee. Mr. Bimm wrote a transcription of this for the symphonic band back in 2004 for their performance at the IMEA Convention, and he has said in the past that he wanted to put this on the field.

I recommend checking out the soundtrack to Gris. The story centers around the five stages of grief. Knowing this makes listening to the soundtrack the full way through even more enjoyable. Berlinist (the composers/producers) did a fantastic job with it. I could see "Gris, Pt. 1" making a terrific ballad in the hands of the right arranger, maybe even "Gris, Pt. 2." I could easily see some indoor guards using other pieces from the soundtrack, like "Debris" or "Chiasm." Some other favorite soundtracks: Spiritfarer (particularly "Thunder Harvest") Bastion (particularly "Terminal March") Hades (particularly "The Painful Way" - think this could have worked very well in a show like the Colts' Silk Road or the Spartans' Experiment X) Hollow Knight

The music is fun, but what I really want is the footwork (suspender work too): I didn't realize how new this piece was. It's made the 15-song shortlist as a candidate for the Best Song Oscar (the five nominees to be announced next month).

For however under the radar Bollywood is in America, this has been making massive waves in India. IIRC, it's one of the hugest Bollywood movies ever already in terms of impact. The context in the movie is the equivalent of the American Revolution in terms of mythicalness. It'd definitely be fun to see someone take on RRR or Slumdog Millionaire (off my very limited knowledge of Bollywood) someday.

The reason? Simple (IMO) - that's where the money is to be found. The talented individuals creating the soundtracks for video games are today's version of Handel, Albinoni, and Sibelius (or insert the names of YOUR favorite composers from different eras here).
