The first of two Indianapolis Guard Regionals (Feb. 12 and 13) has been reduced from two sites to one site. Still a two-day event, though. This might be better for logistics. It typically is, but in this case, WGI Indy always had a massive overflow of SA winter guards (like upwards of at least 30 groups) every year that SA warranted their own separate competition to avoid pushing out the more advanced groups. It seems that the Indy split has done some good for alleviating the SA groups as the enrollment has been fairly low comparatively. Don't get me wrong, 15-18 groups is good, just not as high as it used to be in years prior. I guarantee that WGI Indy was one weekend, the separate sites would be necessary.

I’ll be at Kansas City (running social media for WGI) and Austin (just for fun). Hope to see some of you there!

As per Texas HS guards- The Woodlands, Flower Mound, and Dripping Springs are all registered as Scholastic World this year, while Coppell, Ronald Reagan, Allen, CTJ, College Park, James E Taylor, Eastlake, Independence, James Bowie, Little Elm, Marcus, McNeil, Dawson, Earl Warren, Johnson (Buda), and Hendrickson are registered as Scholastic Open. That’s a lot of high caliber HS guards! I can’t even list all of the schools competing in Scholastic A, but some notable names from BOA are Cedar Park, Cedar Ridge, Hebron, Round Rock, Rouse, Seven Lakes, Keller, Prosper, Vista Ridge, and Westlake. I also noticed that Southlake Carroll Winter Guard and Percussion are also registered for Dayton. Both have a pretty good history within the WGI ranks and most recently, have had success in the BOA ranks. Scholastic A Texas winter guards going to Dayton: Bridgeland, Katy, Mount Pleasant, Pine Tree, Prosper, Seven Lakes, Southlake Carroll, Westlake

Color guard is growing a lot in Texas and it’ll boost the activity as a whole throughout the state. Never heard of Pine Tree before in the BOA world nice to see some fresh faces.

Does anyone have the entry lists You can find them at wgi.org/color-guard/2022-cg-calendar/ by clicking on each event and then selecting “Current Entries”. We haven’t hit the deadline yet though, so some WGs may still be added later I noticed that there is different information on this link regarding WGI Austin than what Jeremiah had in October. Is it going to be at Glenn or at Hendrickson? Also, what happened to WGI Tulsa? Edit: Never mind about Tulsa. I see they are still on the schedule. Just not for the FloMarching stream.

Edit: Never mind about Tulsa. I see they are still on the schedule. Just not for the FloMarching stream. Looks like the Austin event is now at Glenn. It was originally split across two sites with Glenn hosting the Scholastic A prelims and semis and Hendrickson hosting all of finals on Sunday and the other classes prelims on Saturday, but now it looks like it’s been consolidated to Glenn for all classes prelims and finals.

Palm Desert Charter Middle School off to another great start this year. I'm continually impressed with what a Middle School is able to accomplish.

WGI is still looking for volunteers to run social media at many of the events. I had a lot of fun doing it last time, and highly recommended if you’re interested in checking out competitions from a perspective that goes beyond just sitting in the audience! Here’s the Facebook post from today that lists the events that are still open: www.facebook.com/WGIsportofthearts/photos/a.218212045525/10165874331715526/?type=3

Excited to see a competition in KC! What is WG like for Texas? I know of a few notable ones (in general) - Flanagan, stoneman Douglas, Carmel, Avon, Leander. Do many Texas guards make it to Dayton? Considering the Texas regionals booked up ridiculously fast, I think the WG scene in Texas is looking pretty fantastic. I didn’t see too many last season, but Leander sticks out to me as being very good. I’m hoping to make it out to Austin this March and check out some of the groups. I truly think that within a few short years we’ll have Texas guards that rival Indiana ones. Stereotype? What stereotype? Are you going to make it to Austin? If you are, leandermomma and I will be there, and I’m sure some others. Anyone that’ll be there give a shout out so we could say Hi!

This past Tuesday, I had the distinct pleasure of chatting live on YouTube with Tim Hinton and Paul Simondac from Marching Arts Now about some of my favorite Texas winter guard shows from this season so far. If you are as geeky of a guard fan as I am, you might enjoy watching this episode which also includes Tim and Paul talking with the incredible guard show designer Michael James. I had so much fun doing this!

Can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings! Now if only FloMarching was streaming more of these regionals...

I got to do another Marching Arts Now winter guard episode live today! We chatted with designer and choreographer Andre Williams and we covered four of the Indy area world class guards! (Fishers, Warren Central, Center Grove and Miamisburg). 🥰

Congratulations to Avon World Guard on being the WGI 2022 Scholastic World Class Champions!!!! With a Score of 93.95! 🖤💛
This year Avon has a trifecta in state championships with Guard, Winds, and Drumline all winning Indiana State. Let's see if they can repeat that trifecta at World!

I think Winds has a good chance, but not too sure about the drumline. I think Chino Hills and Ayala will have something to say about that. Though I do like the Avon show this year. The speed bags add a pretty cool touch to the show.

My son is in Avon winds and we're very excited!! He hasn't been to WGI since freshman year (4th pl) and he graduates this year, so it's a nice bookend for them to go. Placing would be icing.. I really like the Winds show this year. I have seen a couple of vids of their performances. Good luck to your son and the other members as well. BTW My son, who graduated a few years ago, is an Avon alum. He participated in marching band and indoor drumline as well. Again, good luck, will be rooting for them. I think Winds has a good chance, but not too sure about the drumline. I think Chino Hills and Ayala will have something to say about that. Though I do like the Avon show this year.
