One curious, but not so surprising choice in finals. And no surprises on top and bottom half. But the order within might be 👀

Wow, tough finals draw for Carmel while Avon gets the perfect finals draw.

Wow, tough finals draw for Carmel while Avon gets the perfect finals draw. My hunch is that they're far enough apart for it to not really matter.

I'm creating a separate thread for finals, to give people a nice neat starting point if they don't want to scroll through dozens of pages of comments in the prelims thread.

Here’s hoping the Daredevil Liftoff IPA’s from the Yard House take the edge off tonight! No one is playing Creep this year, are they? I’d hate to have to hurt anyone.

Drum majors only is policy for the whole season until Grand Nats which won’t be decided until a few days before.

Drum majors only is policy for the whole season until Grand Nats which won’t be decided until a few days before. Some BS! But hey let’s let them all sit in the stands right next to each other instead. SMH

Franklin has such a fun show. Who doesn’t love “I Love Lucy”? What a great start to finals!

I’m so glad to see Goshen in finals this year! May have been a bit rougher than their prelims run, but overall a great and effective show. Congratulations Goshen!

While I haven’t been a huge fan of the MPLT shows these past few seasons, this one is actually a win for me! I’m glad they were able to make it back into finals this season, especially since Covid has taken such a hit on their numbers.

Goshen has a really nice ensemble sound. Lawrence fell really flat for me but they’re some talented musical in there.

Franklin- Very fun show. I didn't even realize there was the chocolate conveyor belt scene in the show until rewatching it tonight. There's still a lot to clean GNs, which could be good news.
Goshen- I honestly thought they weren't going to make Finals when I initially saw them, but they deserve their spot tonight. They had some nice full ensemble moments and color guard was impressive.
Lawrence Township- This was my first viewing of them this year. I can definitely see why there were a lot of concerned comments during Prelims. Overall show seemed a bit rough, and i'm a bit doubtful of the drill. Hope they can bounce back with their unique show style in the future.

Nice job LT! I loooove the show theme and they performed it well! I wouldn't say they're back to pre-Covid level of fun execution yet, but nonetheless it was a very enjoyable show!

I think Centerville is marching a higher ratio of saxophones to total members than any band I’ve ever seen.

This was my first viewing of Centerville this season. What a great use of color and props. Absolutely loved the visual moments. Great woodwind features but the brass was a bit too rough for my taste.

Anything with Bjork instantly has my heart, and I absolutely loved Centerville! A tiny bit dirtier than prelims but still a fantastic show and performance nonetheless! I absolutely loved the integration of It's Oh So Quiet in the show!!!

This was my first viewing of Centerville this season. What a great use of color and props. Absolutely loved the visual moments. Great woodwind features but the brass was a bit too rough for my taste. I really thought the design of the show fell flat. The brass sounds crass and the guard is rough. I love CJB but this show design feels choppy and disconnected. I'm not loving the Billie Eilish parts- really didn't do it for me. Rough.

This weekend is the first I’ve been exposed to Choctaw before and I am so glad they are here in Indy! What a mighty little band. Love the visual design. Any show that can incorporate Run Boy Run into their music book is a win for me. Congratulations Choctaw on an outstanding run!

Centerville- Also my first viewing of Centerville this year. This has to be the most colorful I've seen Centerville in a while. I actually thought they sounded pretty good with some very impressive dynamic shaping from small ensemble moments. Overall a bit stronger performance than I had expected from them, so well done! Also, did I hear Billie Eilish in the beginning?
Choctaw- Very cool visuals throughout the show. I think they would be even better if they played with a little more finesse, balance, and restraint. Very enjoyable show to watch though.

I know there is a lot of debate around Center Grove’s show design but this year’s production in my eyes is the perfect show design recipe for them. The band stays together on the field for a good chunk of time unlike a few of their previous productions. Great musical and visual moments all while highlighting their world class guard. It works for them and keeps them competitive. I wish some of the ISSMA Scholastic A bands would take notes…

Love Owasso‘s opener! The rest of the show falls a little flat for me. I did not catch the name of the show. Can anyone shed some light on their production this season?

Center Grove- Love the guard staging and colors. Wonderful sax solo in the ballad! Are they using mics during Danzon no. 2? Sounded super funky. Drumline seems super good.
Owasso-Well I won't ever get tired of hearing Maslanka, so generally liked the music choices, but not sure about the arrangement. Some nice color guard moments and cool visual feature near the end of the show. However, I think their overall drill might need an upgrade.
Bottom 7 rankings for me: 8)Choctaw 9)Centerville 10)Franklin 11)Center Grove 12)Owasso 13)Goshen 14)Lawrence Township

CARMEL!!! God I love this show. Amazing visuals and music book. So clean. I absolutely love their take of Rhapsody On a Theme of Paganini. Carmel’s shows are usually hit or miss for me and this one is a huge hit. Definitely an eagle contender.

This is just the epitome of a Carmel show, and it’s the best design of any group I’ve seen this year. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be “cinematic.” Or maybe “epic.” Can’t wait to see all the wrinkles ironed out at grand nationals. Fully clean and maxed out it would be difficult to see this show lose imo.
