Remarkable jump for Prosper from prelims to finals, especially considering their performance draw. From 7th to 4th place, and over 4 points improvement in score.

Recaps are up! Here is the finals cutoff: 14. Blue Springs South H.S., MO 80.025 -------------------------- 15. Camdenton H.S., MO 80.00 16. James Martin H.S., TX 79.30 17. Normal H.S., IL 77.70 18. Fort Zumwalt North H.S., MO 76.80 19. Timberland H.S., MO 76.25 20. Sullivan H.S., MO 74.95 Sullivan should be very, very proud of this! Almost every band beneath them is bigger. It’s incredible that a 1A band is this high!

How does one get a 14.5 in individual music but a 16.8 in ensemble music? Just curious Individual music judge standing in front a freshman likely

I'm on mobile and I can't seem to find it. Help. Lol If you switch your browser to desktop view, you can navigate to all the site's pages. Also there should be a dropdown box that defaults to saying "Navigation" where you can portal to other areas of the HR site
Thank you!

How does one get a 14.5 in individual music but a 16.8 in ensemble music? Just curious Based off what I heard in person last night, I have a pretty good idea. Take a look at Sullivan’a differential: 13.3 individual to 16.0 ensemble. When Sullivan played last night, the only sound I could hear from them came from the speakers. They sound good from up high as an ensemble because of all of their best players are mic’d up. But when you analyze them on the field without the mics, then you get a more realistic picture.

These judges were certainly interesting to say the least The rating is just based on the score, it’s not something the judges decide. Ratings at BOA events taking place prior to October 15th will be determined by the following score breakdowns: SCORE 70.00 and above - I 55.00 – 69.95 - II 40.00 - 54.95 - III 39.95 and below - IV Ratings at BOA events taking place on or after October 15 will be determined by the following score breakdowns: SCORE 75.00 and above - I 60.00 – 74.95 - II 45.00 - 59.95 - III 44.95 and below - IV

Also of note, Coppell did finish ahead of Blue Springs in prelims. The last time Blue Springs finished below 2nd at St. Louis in prelims or finals was in 2015 finals when they finished below Union and Broken Arrow. Very impressive for Coppell to get 2nd in prelims. Also, if anyone happens to have a video of Broken Arrow from yesterday, my inbox is open

Well, it's easier to hide individual output within an ensemble. They judge different things. How does one get a 14.5 in individual music but a 16.8 in ensemble music? Just curious

Hey guys long time follower, first time poster. Here are my honest opinions of St. Louis finals. Mustang and Grain Valley are tapped out. Thought both shows are great from a design standpoint and extremely crowd appealing I have the feelings once the judges realize they actually don't play or move that well, they will be in trouble. They got it right in Semi-Finals in terms of music performance. They both were bottom 7 groups in my opinion. Mustang greatly benefited from going after all the heavy hitters and having a hilarious show with an incredible produced product from the sound design team. BentonvilleI think had Bentonville gotten a better draw they would have been much higher. It was SUPER OBVIOUS once they went on that it was the best group in the bottom 7 with no band coming close until Prosper performed. I think they still have about 30-45 seconds of show left and I think they suffered from being one of the only shows with a at the end. Being 10th was the head scratch for me? Especially since I thought visually they were a cleaner band than most - VIS ENSEMBLE 15.5 Southlake CarrollTalk about a band that is easy to root for. Great show, great music, great marching. Extremely impressed and thought they were incredible! Rosemount It was a good run for them, but they need to fix their woodwind problems. Union
I thought Union's prelim run was worthy of finals. But their finals run was inconsistent and a step back. I wonder what is going on there? Someone has to have a story to tell. Coppell
To have a new director and do so well goes to show that Coppell is a sleeping giant. I expect them to be in the next 5 years a MAJOR PLAYER. I am sure there are a lot of nervous directors in the DFW area. Blue SpringsTalk about understanding your strengths, knowing you kids and performing so dang well. Blue Springs are MASTERS of taking a little and making A LOT!!!! I think what will hurt them is their "band sound" is overly produced through amplification. It will become apparent at GN semifinals when they are going after a major 4A. Broken Arrow
This show reminds me very much of Wild Blue Orchard. What excites me is that I know Broken Arrow plays the VERY SLOW GAME in revealing their show. I can't wait!!! IT's the best Broken Arrow Band playing wise, though their finals run was not as good as their prelim run. It was by far one of the BEST St. Louis Super Regionals I have experienced! I am glad I made the trip and got to experience it

You may be tied to Mustang, so don't take my comments wrong. It's an incredible show and considering how far mustang has come since 2018 I am impressed! I'm just wondering what inflatable animal they have on bulk order for next year.

Sullivan should be very, very proud of this! Almost every band beneath them is bigger. It’s incredible that a 1A band is this high! And Alter, with 28 performers, only .05 points behind them in 21. While I didn't see Sullivan, I had posted in the Prelims thread that Alter should be at least five points ahead of Hollister.
In fact, Alter was 8.3 points ahead of Hollister.
(But Alter was also about five points ahead of the score I thought they would get.)

I really agree with you on Bentonville - they sound so good. But I think the answer to the visual score has to do with content, they just didn’t move that much compared to others :/. It’s funny you mention the ensemble sound of Blue Springs possibly being an issue compared to their stiff competition at GN - it will be interesting to see how they improve it and what the judges reward then. They move so well though with great fundamentals so that is in their favor.

I haven't read up on the sheets in a while but if Bentonville has easier visual content that would be pretty evident compared to the rest of the groups. After all the number is just a comparison to the other bands that happen to be there. Even if it's cleaner than some others a more difficult show could win over. (i.e. Marcus vs. The Woodlands in 2012 gets mentioned a lot with this situation). Also color guard is another entire component to the visual caption.

Union
I thought Union's prelim run was worthy of finals. But their finals run was inconsistent and a step back. I wonder what is going on there? Someone has to have a story to tell. COVID, young group, and drama within the program. Also, IMO, an arrangement (coupled with some of the drill) that does not utilize their strengths, but instead exposes their weaknesses.
