Really good show from Westlake! They have some great soloists and have that classic Texas sound we all know and love. The electronic issues were unfortunate, but hopefully they don't get too hefty a penalty for the delay.

Westlake is great, as usual! Very few groups can rival Westlake's music fundamentals, and that was again apparent this year, especially on Kingfisher's Catchfire. I can't help but think that long wait might've done a number on the kids' focus, but either way, it was a great performance and I can see why they placed right under Vandy at their Area Finals. Not the most innovative show, but honestly, it was very well put-together and everything made sense and flowed beautifully. I won't be surprised if they're named as a finalist tomorrow, and I won't be surprised if they aren't.

The dragon band was so nice to us when we came down in 2013. It was really cool getting to meet up with them at Disney before the Rose Parade the next year. Met some cool people that I still chat with today! Hope to see them tomorrow night and Saturday night at nationals!

Did Round Rock drop the cymbal line in a previous year or is this the first year without one?

Wow, Round Rock is HUGE. I didn't even know they were hiding half their band behind the props in the beginning until they came out.
Very lovely sounding woodwinds and clean technical passages from them! I think Round Rock plays and marches generally very well... maybe something about the visual design is a bit boring for me, and I think their color guard is not quite on point. Still could see them in finals, but I would definitely expect near the bottom of finals.

Round Rock was also great! I have to say, following Westlake & Rouse, the show design doesn't read quite as smooth and sleek; there's some spots where the direction and momentum isn't as clear. One more complaint of mine would be that the beautiful Shostakovich Piano Sonata ballad impact comes out of nowhere and it would be nice to hear some development from the winds before that. But, beyond that, they were great, and they play and move exquisitely & aggressively. I like the music a lot, the guard is outstanding, the band is LOUD and full, and that drumline on the final drum break under the clanging bells is fire. This is a really nice offering from Round Rock. Same with Westlake, I won't really be surprised to hear them announced or not hear them announced for Finals. I think the same with GN --- a shoo-in on other years, but it's too stacked this year to call them anything other than a bubble, although they are certainly right there with Dobyns, Wando, Castle, Browsnburg, etc.

Round Rock has some cleaning to do before Grand Nationals, but they have a great show that I could see getting into finals.

Glenn was nice!! Anyone know who took over now that Shuttlesworth is at Coppell? Are they still looking at a bright future? They sounded great today!
Taft is always a nice surprise, I never expect much but they always seem to deliver. Nice show, nice sound, looked great.
Connally was lovely to watch as well! Welcome back to BOA! Or at least, the big leagues of BOA, maybe they've done Austin or Waco in the last few years. Pflugerville ISD really is rock solid from top to bottom. They're a great group.

It has kicked me out twice. This happens to me a few times per broadcast and it's very frustrating. No apparent reason, just logs me out entirely while cutting the feed, requiring me to log in again.

And David McGrath is hiding out at Klein Cain Yes, I've got a good friend working with them this season, they seem to be Texas's secret surprise on the horizon with McGrath at the helm! Sneaking into state out of a tough area seems to be the first public hint of what's to come.

Really great performance by Cedar Ridge! Medea's Dance of Vengeance is starting to get overplayed now, but all the same I still really liked their rendition of it. The visual design was pretty clean as well. I'll admit I don't fully understand the theme of the show, but I still enjoyed the show and think they're a fairly safe bet for finals.

Just tried Box5 support and it wasn't the most productive conversation. They don't know why some of us are experiencing frequent logouts and just ask if wifi could be cutting out (I'm on a gigbit wired connection). Suggestion was to just try Firefox while they ask their development team if they know what's up. I said I wanted to use Chrome so I can cast to my TV for Nats next week and they simply said they don't recommend it. That doesn't fill me with much confidence...

Solid run today from Cedar Ridge. Looks like a fun show to perform! I appreciate how they made the familiar Medea medley their own with extra flourishes and such.

WOW!!!! I know we all have heard rumbles of what to expect with Cedar Ridge this season, but did anyone expect them to sound THAT GOOD?! Tons and tons and tons of exposure in that wind book, and everyone was handling it like it was nothing. I really wish they would return to GN with a show like this; I know they had a few years wandering in the desert with some director shifts & changes & such, always finding success still, but if this is the band that CR has found they will be, I'm all in!!!! And, I can't imagine they stay small in size with this kind of success and these kinds of shows. What student wouldn't want to be a part of what they're doing right now??

Loved loved loved loved LOVED M&G Johnson (or whatever we're calling them). What a spectacularly fun show, and a terrific group to boot. Excellent, skilled guard, incredible soloists (particularly that flute/pic soloist!), tons of meat in the wind book, I love it all! I've gotten to catch all of the UIL 5A Finalists a few times now on YouTube, and while McCallum & Dripping Springs were great, how the hell did they make it out of Area over M&G Johnson?? Bad run from Johnson, or wonky UIL judging? I suppose it was a more GE-focused show, but that group plays and moves really, really well. Either way, I look forward to seeing what's in store for M&G Johnson, especially knowing that this is where David Duffy landed after Dripping Springs.
I think it'll be a tall order for them to play again tomorrow night, but only because there are so many wonderful groups, and do I see them ahead of Hendrickson & Weiss so far on Panel 2 (both of whom were also great). What a pleasant surprise! Very enjoyable group.

As much as I tease our Missouri band friends about the endless cardinal directions for school names, Texas ain't making it any easier with the Memorials & Veterans Memorials. We've already seen Veterans Memorial from Misson ISD, and I debated on whether to write the previous band on my list as San Antonio Veterans Memorial (their mailing address) or Judson Veterans Memorial (for Judson ISD). Browsnville ISD also has a solid Veterans Memorial band. Apparently Corpus Christi also has a solid band from their VMHS, although I don't know much about Corpus Christi bands. Not to mention the plain Memorials from Frisco ISD, McAllen, PSJA, Spring Branch ISD, Pasadena, Tomball... : )
All kidding aside, San Antonio Veterans Memorial was such a great little group! Terrific execution and accountability from every member, and what a great guard! I really enjoyed that performance.
