Really good performance by Cedar Park! Drill was very clean and the ensemble had great sounds throughout the entire show. I expect we'll be seeing them again tomorrow night.

Some really beautiful playing from Cedar Park. Visual performance seemed very on point as well. Very solidly in finals and I would imagine right in the middle of the pack for finals.

Cedar Park’s music writing was so cool, I guess when you’re trying to sum up 23 years of history you have to combine some pieces of music. Also VERY clean visually, I think that could propel them into the top half.

Ok, Cedar Park. Maybe I had built up expectations a little too much in my head. I mean, they're GOOD, they're really good. At the end of the day, though, it's a pretty safe, UIL-focused Cedar Park show, and that's fine, but I don't see them as light years ahead of Cedar Ridge or Rouse so far. I would like to see CP back in San Antonio Super Regional Finals for sure, and I think they made a solid, solid case for that today, although I don't know if I'm willing to say they were hands down the best to perform so far. I do like this aggressive & in-your-face Cedar Park. I guess I just had heard so much about how they had gotten a new design team in house since 2019, etc., and well...it still feels pretty familiar. But they are a very, very skilled group.

Performance levels are most definitely back to normal for CP. I have them squarely in finals, but am I crazy to say I think Rouse is still somehow out ahead for today?

(copy pasted from my TXbands post) As an alumni of RRISD, I'm so proud of all of the showings from them so far! From Round Rock High School with probably the most challenging and entertaining show I've seen from them in a hot minute, to Cedar Ridge with my person favorite performance of the day (totally unbiased), to McNeil with potentially the best band I've ever seen from them! They've bumped up their volume so much, and I couldn't be happier for them.

I have them squarely in finals, but am I crazy to say I think Rouse is still somehow out ahead for today? I've got Cedar Ridge slightly ahead of CP, who I have slightly ahead of Rouse. So, a coin toss. I'm sure I'll be wildly surprised by the results, but it's difficult for me to see those 3 bands not trading sub captions back and forth. All 3 were excellent.

Also, where did McNeil come from?? They didn't even crack the top 60, or 75 points at 2019 SA!! Wow! What an improved band!! I love seeing historically strong bands wind up back on their feet. Their winter guard training CLEARLY shines through. And their winds sound wonderful. Also, a really, really neat & unique take on a theme done so many times! They really made that show & theme their own. Well done, McNeil!

Churchill was terrific! I know they had a slower start to their season, but it really looks like their found their footing. Crazy to see Churchill at around 100 members total (band, guard, percussion, all of it!), but I assume and hope that that's Covid related and that they'll bounce back. Again, always good to see former greats begin to thrive and grow again after a few years of finding their way. Churchill looks to be on a great path for the future. Very happy to have them back attending the super regional!

This is my first viewing of Jack C Hays ever, but I thought their overall show design was actually very good. Maybe they are still a little short performance-wise, but very pleasantly surprised by them and clearly a lot of potential for the future.

I really, really enjoyed watching Hays! Maybe it's because I didn't have any expectations of them, but they really impressed. That group knows how to play with emotion!! Not the cleanest of performances, but a current, fresh, engaging show, performed with tons of energy and high emotion; enough to feel some chills through the screen. I really enjoyed Hays, what a great 8 minutes of marching band!

Jack C. Hays has such a special show this year. It is worth watching if you haven't seen them yet. Inspired from beginning to end!

Ann Richards School. Their guard is GINORMOUS in comparison to the band! Actually pretty big by many average-sized group’s standard. Very cool!

Westwood had a very strong musical performance (aside from maybe the ballad) the visual was kind of dirty for this point in the season sadly. Their music scores might have them in finals really. It’s very good music and the best I’ve heard from them ever. It’s very good. As a certified Westwood fan since forever I am proud of their hard work.

Westwood, wow! What powerful sounds coming out from these guys. Show was very fun, maybe a little messy, but I think they could sneak into Finals even?

That is the best Westwood we've ever seen! It kept all of the polish and nuance from their 2019 Christmas show and added in a lot more meat & potatoes, both visually & musically. What a great show; excellent story telling, a super challenging music book with long phrases, tons of dynamic contrast, excellent variance in pacing and tempos. I loved watching that performance!! I know it's a stacked field, but I would be thrilled to hear Westwood announced for Finals, although that is a tall order indeed and the pool is unbelievably thick with great bands. Whether they make it in or not, I'm all about this unique niche Westwood seems to be carving out for themselves. The future is incredibly bright for this band.

Churchill Fulshear was a fun surprise! It took some time to draw me in, but then I was leaned in until the end. What a smart way to craft something both effective and achievable for a growing ensemble. That visual design was especially masterful; I would hang a picture of that ballad impact set on my wall! Can't wait to see what they continue to do in coming years.

Vandegrift was INCREDIBLE. Their brass is phenomenal in every way. That ballad is everything I didn't know I needed. Fantastic music all around and the drill was well executed as well. Without a doubt the top group to perform so far today.

Vandegrift in the clear lead far. I'm not sure if this show is quite as effective as their 2019 show though, but as usual they are playing and marching excellently. I also have no idea how they get their upper brass so in tune in all the exposed passages (wish I had such nice trumpets when I was in HS, haha)

I LOVE VANDEGRIFT do not get me wrong. I was probably one of the people cheering the loudest when they won in 2019. I was not a big fan of their performance today. I think you could tell they were rushing a bit nearing the end of their ballad and the percussion and soloist did fall behind a bit noticeably on stream. There were a few noticeable times were players jumped in too early. Visuals were stunning and near perfect. I did not enjoy the music. Did not find it very effective and I don’t think they’re the strongest musical group to perform today. They are the best visual group by a mile though.

Is there anyone here who will keep them from performing in exhibition tomorrow night? I’d really like to get the chance to watch their performance.

Vandy steamrolling their way into the competition. That is some impressive volume. I don't know that this show design hits on the same levels as 2019 (neither musically nor visually - something about spelling things out in drill has always struck me as a bit unoriginal), but they haven't lost a step performance-wise. Performance captions should deservedly be towards the very top.
