I am beyond ecstatic for Hebron!!! This was so so long in the making. I hope the kids, directors, and parents are all on cloud nine right now!!
Also, can't wait for recaps!! TW, CTJ, & Vandy all within .7 of each other!!
And the MONSTER cluster of Coppell down to Rouse -- SIX bands -- all landing within a 1.3 spread!! Insane!

Cedar Ridge topped Vista Ridge by 0.1 to get into the top half. I think Vista Ridge is still looking good for Grand Nationals!

Gonna have to sleep on these results before I make my final predictions for Grand Nationals. Thankfully we all get an extra hour of sleep tonight.

Looks like Hebron made their hay in the individual performance captions, no surprise.

Vista Ridge simply had a dirty finals run, all bands have them. They’ll be fine but it is tough that run came in at SA finals. All my love to them.

Hebron has broken the first part of the curse by winning BOA San Antonio. It's time for them to finish the job and win UIL State now.

Interesting that Hebron got 4th in ensemble music performance. Gonna have to disagree with the judge on that one.

TWHS and CTJ are in great shape for next week And don't forget that our champion, Hebron placed behind Flower Mound at several contests this year. Puts FM in a good medal position as well.

While I think FloMo will most likely medal, I also think Hebron has probably pulled ahead of their neighbor (if they can keep performing like they did today).

Interesting that Hebron got 4th in ensemble music performance. Gonna have to disagree with the judge on that one. Yeah I’m a little confused as to what that music ensemble judge was hearing. Ronald Reagan above Hebron? It certainly didn’t sound like it on stream.

On a somewhat unrelated note… does anyone know where the day goes when it’s a BOA saturday??? It’s like the shortest day ever and I get nothing else done 😳😂

What an experience that was! I guessed and agreed with the judges on the top 10 except swap CTJ and Vandy. I think The woodlands have some musical blending problems that are easy to hear in person so I had them where they placed. I have to say though there is no other band that embraces their roles quite like them. They have swagger and they know it

Some fun Prelims notes:
Round Rock was able to pop into the top 14 in overall music, Westlake was able to do the same in overall visual, and Seven Lakes was able to garner a top 14 placement in overall GE.
For sub captions, Round Rock & Cypress Woods both vaulted into the top 14 in individual music (not at all surprised with Cy Woods there, great job from them!), and Westlake popped a top 14 number in music ensemble (again, no surprise). Westlake, Seven Lakes, Round Rock, and Klein Oak (yay!) all landed in the top 14 on the individual sub caption numbers, and Westlake & Lake Travis (!) landed in the top 14 in visual ensemble scores. Timber Creek, Westlake, Lake Travis, Seven Lakes, Bowie, & Round Rock were all top 14 in Music GE from at least one of the two judges, with Round Rock, Bowie, & Lake Travis landing in the top 14 in total Music GE scores. The 14 finalists were the top 14 in Visual GE.
No non-finalist group was really sunk by one judge, which is always nice to see. Round Rock did place 33rd in Visual GE, and they would have been in had their Visual GE number matched their Music GE average score, but I would argue that their visual GE is indeed not matched to their music GE. Although, it should be noted that RR's vis GE scores *WERE* equal to their Music GE scores in both Austin Prelims & Finals, but that was a massively smaller field. Westlake was also dropped in Vis GE, but like RR, I would say that caption is typically revealed to be a weaker point for them as the band cleans up throughout the season. Worth noting that both bands were dumped in Vis GE in 2019 SA Prelims as well; one could lament that the caption kept either band out of Finals in 2021, but that would certainly be an area of design focus moving forward if I were in charge of either group. Music GE, the oft-volitale caption, was actually quite consistent across both judges on a panel throughout the Prelims contest; Cy Woods, JET, Oak Ridge, Glenda Dawson, & Brazoswood were the only five groups in the top 50 or so whose two MGE numbers were over a point apart. That's some pretty solid consistency across so many great bands & close margins.
Some records:
Seven Lakes landed in the top 20 for their first time. I believe that was also Lake Travis's first top 20 placement. Cypress Woods, M&G Johnson, and Waxahachie all land a monumental top 25 placement on their first ever trips to SA.
Wylie East & Weiss, two young bands, land their first top 30 placements. Azle coming in at 32nd with by FAR their highest placement at SA and first time topping 80 at the super regional.
JBA up 4 points and 21 spots from 2019's head-scratching finish.
I think I checked all years, and I'm fairly certain this is McNeil's first Div 1 rating (75.00+) at BOA SA, and potentially their first score of 75.00+ at any BOA event? I actually had them landing in the 78-79 range, but either way, they put on a strong Prelims performance at this contest!

Big Congratulations to Hebron. This is regional win number 4 and the first San Antonio Super Regional Win! And of congrats to all the bands at this regional. My only complaint is that this marks yet another year when the winner of San Antonio is not attending Grand Nationals.

The one Hebron win we've been waiting all these years! So many incredibly small misses and 2nds all this time during their surgence to the top. In a year when the consensus #1 Texas band wasn't so clear going into San Antonio, Hebron just swung for the fences and went beyond the tracks.
This will be one of the legendary wins we'll be talking for years to come. An absolute belated jubilant congratulations to Hebron!
