Coppell sounding just as powerful as Pearland, but then adding in so much delicate playing too! I'm honestly amazed at how quiet this giant ensemble can get at times. Also, @samuel Culper, THERE'S your notes!! Maybe a bit too many flying fingers and mallets; a few passages sounded like they just got them confidently under their fingers like...this week. That's ok, though; that is a music book that is nonstop notes, notes, notes and more notes! The only other thing I'd really like to say is that I always felt Coppell was ripe for someone to come in and burst them onto the national scene and catapult them to the top of Texas bands. A fairly wealthy district, 10,526 students enrolled in one of 37 concert bands, a lonnnnnng history of top notch pedagogy from beginning band onward, a solid winter guard, concert bands that were lauded at UIL over and over...it's all there!! With Shuttlesworth at the helm, look out for Coppell in the next few seasons. I see no reason they can't be the next FloMo or Hebron. Also, welcome back to SA Finals, Coppell!!!! Eight seasons out was far, far too long. 37 concert bands?? 😦

I'm still thinking about Rouse. What a beautiful, inspired show. Those kids made magic this season. What a great light in the wake of COVID. Congrats, Rouse! If you're geeking out over their show as much as I am, I highly recommend watching their 2020 show reveal/band documentary on Youtube. It was an incredibly well put together video if you have ~1 hour to spare. That band has been through a lot of director/leadership turmoil and changes in their short history, and for them to come out this strong in 2021 is magical indeed. I still maintain their 2019 show should have been MUCH closer to finals that year.

My jaw actually dropped at that sax choir accelerando into the brass hit. Chills. Everywhere.

Holy cow, that music judge is quite up close and personal with the woodwinds. My kiddo said there wasn't a judge to be found a ong the woodwinds in St Louis. Those judges barely wandered off the sidelines!

A few questions: 1. Does Coppell’s JV marching band compete? 2. Why not conjoin the two and have a Carmel-size band? 3. IS IT COP-L OR COPE-L 1. The JV band started in 2017 and does a few contests every year. Usually they do UIL Region and one or two local marching contests on the weekends the Varsity band has off. 2. I think Coppell has about 500 students in the program total, with that number growing every year since there's only one high school band program in the district. Combining probably would make it hard to remain competitive. 3. I hear people say it both ways and I still don't know haha

Someone said earlier that Keller's drill is Gaines... is he their new designer?

A few questions: 3. IS IT COP-L OR COPE-L I believe it's pronounced more like "couple."

You can clearly hear in their tone when they are having to duck and weave inbetween everyone.

Someone knew exactly what they were doing when they arranged that three note pickup into the opening hit for just the low brass. The clarity and power made the opening hit even more effective. Pretty sure we're still hearing it bouncing off the seats in the upper deck. I really enjoyed that brass section the entire show.
I have to imagine Keller made finals on the strength of their music program. I'm going to be in the minority here based on commentary from their prelims performance, but I just don't get their visual design. There's an awful lot of solid form/linear drill with scattering from one set to the next, so it was hard for me to follow how the drill evolves and develops over time.

Keller, that was an AWESOME visual book. They were moving like crazy and it was super clean. Best visual band so far IMO, their forms were ridiculously clean.

I have to agree with you on the visual design, I don't think it's particularly strong. Musically though Keller was outstanding, and without a doubt worthy of finals based off that alone.

Strictly in terms of entertainment value, there were probably a good 10 shows from Prelims I would rather have watched than Keller's, especially after the first 5 blazingly fantastic shows, but I cannot argue that they belong in this field tonight, and their exceptional training down to the individual student level was yet again apparent this evening, which is of course why they've been able to establish themselves as one of Texas's most consistent top-level marching bands, year after year. That is no easy feat to accomplish in a constantly-swirling, thick-as-mud eddy of incredible Texas groups. Well done, Keller!

Man... Michael Gaines is a drill writer's dream. I appreciate that Keller is a band meant to be appreciated, if that makes sense. They present so much subtle artistry the entire time. Though they have the capacity to be as loud and aggressive as the rest of them, I'm grateful that Keller chooses the style of show they do. Great job, Keller!

Spectacular performance, Cedar Park!! As with Keller, not my favorite show, especially after the first 5, but wow can this band execute. I am so, so happy to see this historical great working their way back into SA Finals, and the sky really seems to be the limit for this program moving forward.
