I meant what I said when I included Beechwood, OH. Just kidding of course, I’ve changed it over! I will admit this to be my one mistake for the year! But that also means my predictions are absolutely and totally accurate 😂😈 There is a Beechwood in Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, but the town's name was changed to Beachwood at least 75 years ago. Beachwood High School's marching band does not compete.

There is a Beechwood in Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, but the town's name was changed to Beachwood at least 75 years ago. Beachwood High School's marching band does not compete. ....not yet at least. They'd be Class A in BOA. Just watched one of their halftime shows from 2018, playing the music of Michael Jackson. I followed that by confirming that it was a long way short of Deer Park's 2015 show playing the music of Michael Jackson, which managed to snag a Superior at state finals thanks largely to the visual judges (there were two not one at that time). And it goes without saying (which won't stop me) that Deer Park's show is far, far behind the Empire Statesmen's Michael Jackson show of 2011 (which is not without some flaws of its own).

Super excited to help run this competition! It's been too long since I've been back in the stadium as as a volunteer. Can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Okay, this is yet another late post after constantly crashing after work all week long... Congratulations to all on a spectacular weekend! I can't really emphasize anymore how blown away I've been watching all these shows this past weekend. Never did I stop to think before this competition about how many programs were hustling beyond past the standard of a good, healthy program. It is so beyond thrilling to see how much the pageantry arts continue to be valued in some of the legacy programs and catch on in so many schools (on the marching arts side). I can't quite say if many of these schools would be able to attain the level of Grand Nationals Finalist (or equivalent), but I've seen nothing but sparks of inspiration and ambitions from these programs. As important as the top of the activity may be, it is the next generation here that is essential to the future of this activity and to see numerous amounts... We're heading quickly to the peak of innovation in this activity again.
Congratulations to Carmel for coming in the clutch and dominating for the national championship. It was definitely a question mark all season long whether Carmel had the show, but nary a doubt come the very final weekend.
Congratulations to Hendrickson, Southlake Carroll, Brownsburg, and Fishers for making Finals for the first time ever! Not to mention the many highs each of the Finalist programs achieved this season-this was a special top 12! I've been able to catch quite a significant amount of shows this past weekend. First, a few bands that I caught in the Friday prelims that didn't make semis but still deserve some recognition: - Deer Creek (OK)
- Cleveland (NC)
- Panther Creek (NC)
- Legacy (CO)
- DeSoto Central (MS)
- Ravenwood (TN)
- Bassett (VA)
- Catawba Ridge (SC)
- Marian Catholic (IL)
- Green Level (NC)
Again, these are the ones I've seen because there are a few others too (Lake Hamilton, Greendale, etc.) that deserve some love. But.. The fact there's this many that didn't make semis plus plenty more just goes to show how much this activity has been growing.
Separate from that, the semis show this year was by far one of the best I've ever been to in 14-15 years of spectating. Top-to-bottom, pound-for-pound one of the best. I'd consider this year's semis to be one of the highest points of the season. I'll put my thoughts in the other thread, but every band should be wearing a badge of pride for making the Saturday shows. It's always a special honor for a program to make semis, but this year just holds a very high distinction in my eyes. Congrats!
At the risk of running this post too long, I'll skip other debriefs and leave them for their own relevant threads.
Because... I want to end this post (and season) on a very special thank you to the volunteers and staff that made this event happen. I've bumped into so many familiar faces this past weekend along with new ones that 3 days in Indy was not long enough for me at all. There are hundreds of tiny little ants pushing the event along at such a micro level- it's them that made the magic of the past weekend happen. I couldn't be thrilled to end the season with a better crew.

Stupid question: Is Dr. Tim still active with BOA? I just realized that a.) he didn't give his talk prior to finals and b.) there was no leadership session as there usually is on Friday.

Don't know the full answer to your question, but in 2021 he was at GN in a reduced role. Still held the leadership seminar but led far fewer bands onto the field than in years past (he used to do so for almost every band other than during the leadership seminar). I did not experience the pleasure of seeing Dr. Tim in the building during this year's event.
