Getting some real Matrix Percussion vibes out of Norton. Anyone know if there's some crossover staff on the design team? Really strong front ensemble from them.

So ... many ... Ohio ... bands.
In this block.
All of which I've seen before. All but Alter in person.

I am an Ohio band alum (Northmont). I remember some.of these schools, but not their bands.
Didn't get to see many of these smaller groups when we were in STL. is it typical to not have a battery and put all percussionists in a pit located on the field?

Presenting their show "Nowhere to Hide."
Seriously. Every single one of those members has so much exposure during that show that they simply can't have anybody avoid pulling their weight. I'm really impressed with Alter this year. The flugel soloists really set the stage and they just took off from there.

Such a cool and unique show, I loved the textures that the flugelhorns give Alter. And yeah there is NOWHERE for any of those members to hide, but every single one of them is performing so well.

Of 125 bands I saw in OMEA finals (can't speak to what is normal in MSBA), I think maybe 15 or so didn't have a battery. But I'd have to go back through my notes to confirm. It is what Alter normally does, and they do it very well.

The percussion director is a matrix and Phantom Regiment alum. All percussion instructors are from matrix/Phantom.

It’s pretty typical for this size band to have a pit only. A lot of the MSBA bands do it and those without a drum major typically put the pit on the field.

Sullivan clearly had quite the show at St. Louis to beat that Alter show in Class A.

Gotta say, Alter is my dark horse to sneak in front of BoCo for the Class A title. Those kids are CLEAN and the individual responsibility is through the roof.

I think we're witnessing our first semi finalist! Top 11 from panel 2, I suspect. Nice show Bentonville.

So Bentonville goes down as the first band I ever watched in person at Grand Nationals. Enjoyed the show!
Looks like a semifinalist?

I naively forgot to account for the fact that I’m an hour behind Indianapolis. Do y’all think Alter will be in semis? I missed them at St. Louis (I was planning to catch them as the class rep but Sullivan absolutely deserved that spot).

Bentonville sounds quite good. I wish there were fewer musical selections and each was allowed to develop more.

When my daughter started at her high school a couple years ago, and I met the director, and told him I was a Northmont alum, he said the same thing. I had not heard about it, as I was fairly disconnected from the band and guard after I graduated, and moved away. But holy cow, THAT show! I think that there was a big stink about it, as you'd expect.

I missed them at St. Louis (I was planning to catch them as the class rep but Sullivan absolutely deserved that spot). Depends on the competition. It was a good performance. The best in that block, I thought. Right now I have them only behind Bentonville, but it's very early.
