I love that fact the Castle has really challenged their kids in terms brass book difficulties! That is how you keep up with those national powerhouses programs. They are my favorite Indiana band this year.

Castle is definitely GN Finals level musically, but I really think Visual GE is going to be holding them back from being a Finals lock.

Design wise this is one of my favorite Castle shows. Tonight seemed like a rough run musically from my perspective sadly.

Nice to have two potential finalists bands going back to back, both Marcus and Castle are gonna bring it even harder in Semis! Best of luck to both!!

Castle could be in finals for me! That was a really solid production. Those soloists are incredibly talented. I was wishing they would move around a bit more in the first half, and the second half delivered. That euphonium soloist was shredding! I also really loved the three different colored flags on the field at the same time- it was really stunning to look at all together. Awesome run, Castle!

I’d really like to see this Castle show and Bixby’s show this year back to back. I think they’d compliment one another well.

Something is wrong with opening hits today from our top groups! LOL Castle brings a really solid show with much depth, but I just can’t see this in finals. Close though

I couldn’t see super well on the video but that’s what the commentator just said. Even more impressive :0

Wow Castle. I dig it. A fresh take on an Edison theme, and the lights added some great visual focus/intrigue without being too distracting. Very bold sound with some great clarity out of that brassline. It may behoove them to strike all the trumpet screamer moments in their semis performance (save for that last one, which I'm really hoping that member nails on Saturday!). I don't think that would be considered playing it safe as the brass book has plenty of demand otherwise, but there is definitely a risk/reward balance there for something as major as a semis performance.

He nailed it at state finals. But doesn’t seem consistent. I’d keep it though. Risk is worth it. Castle seemed uptight for sure. Need to relax and nail it tomorrow.

Did "Welcome to the Jungle" and "Africa" suddenly become available to bands this year? I've heard four bands play the former and three play the latter in 2021.

Really enjoyed Nixa. I feel like they're right on the verge of contending for semis regularly.
My first viewing of William Mason coming up!

Marcus has such a pure orchestral sound put on the field, and I am loving every second of it. Those Horn soloists are godsends. Such gorgeous tone and smoooooooooth transitions between partials. The slurs were like slicing through butter. I think there were some things that they will need to work out visually before finals but I am glad that the dirt happened now so they have time to fix it over the next two days. That ballad is pure gold. I am convinced. A lot of the way they phrased that ballad reminded me of how Crown phrased Gabriel's Oboe in '19. Stellar show, going to be quite the tear jerker in finals.
Monrovia! You were awesome, great program given the size of your band. You have a great director. You were playing some really difficult passages quite well and some great balance in areas. I hope you can build on this season in the future!

I just can’t get into this William Mason show and I hate saying that. I hate the green jumpsuits that blend in with the field (I’m glad they expose white shirts during the closer now). I hate the constant fabric flyovers. It’s just a miss for me. There was so much potential for a Top Gun show! I don’t mind the music book. The students are preforming it great and their woodwinds are just as spectacular as always, I’m just disappointed in the visual design this season.

Not sure if I'm just imagining it, but I swear Mason was better at the Indy Super Regional a few weeks ago. Their sound is a bit tiny sounding in comparison to some of the previous bands that performed.

I think they’re talking about strictly the songs being available for bands, I wouldn’t know if the people that hold those songs’ rights are particularly strict or not, I wouldn’t imagine so, but again I have no clue Right. I've seen a couple hundred marching band shows each year for seven years running, and never heard either song performed. This year, I've heard each multiple times. How does the word get out to directors about what tunes are newly available for them to use? Or was there something else in the culture at large that made that music of interest? (Like how the Freddie Mercury biography got everyone to play Queen the next year.)
