Ok time for dinner!
I've not been viewing this season as I've been trying to limit the billion streaming subscriptions in my life. But I threw in the $30 for finals cause it's a super good deal. This is gonna be a fantastic finals.

It’ll be interesting to see recaps to see who was the first out. Where Castle and Wando landed. Imagine there’s just a 5 way tie for 15th

I was unable to watch most of today's performances (caught a few in the afternoon), but I'm pleased to see that eleven of my top twelve from Prelims have advanced to the Finals. (I had Wando in twelfth, Fishers thirteenth, and Mason fourteenth. I gather Mason added something to the end of their show today?)

Broken Arrow will be making their 16th appearance in GN finals.
Avon will be making their 19th appearance.
Carmel will be making an impressive 25th appearance.
Flower Mound is making their 3rd.
Marcus is making their 4th.
Claudia Taylor Johnson is making their 4th.
Ronald Reagan is making their 6th.
This is the very first appearance for Vista Ridge.
The Woodlands is making their 11th.
Blue Springs is making their 4th.
William Mason is making their 9th.
Dobyns-Bennett is making their 4th.

Well there goes Marcus, with another great late season push to put them in top half of SA Finals, Medaling at state, and now Grand Nats, excellent finish for them, let’s see if they can retain that music caption in finals! I've got a friend who's grandson marches clarinet with Marcus. So I'm looking forward to seeing them!

Yep it looks like there is a post-show (and a very non-dark-themed one for a change)

Didn't this happen with ctj last time with heavy sentiment that they were near the top but they ended up like 9th. My memory is often faulty however.

Can someone list the show designers for each finalist band? I know we have three Cartwright and two(?) Vento groups. Michael Gaines writes the drill for Carmel. Richard Saucedo and Michael McIntosh write the music.

This will be the first time since 1998 that Indiana had only two bands in finals.
This is the second time Texas is bringing 6 bands into finals.
If you take Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky combined, there are only three bands represented. This is the least finals representation from this region since 1980.

As a former Morton student, it stung a little to see them beat by Jenison, though much deserved. Their show was a real highlight of the morning. Didnt have enough background to realize there would be such very tough completion to even place.
I mean absolutely disrespect by this question because I thought they did a fantastic job too, but can someone tell me as a more-informed observer why Norwin beat Marian? I just feel like I wasn’t seeing the same show as everyone else.
Congratulations to Norwin for closing a huge title gap and making people proud!!

Even with mic issues, slight soloist problems, and maybe not the best run for BA... the GE in this show is literally on another level of any band that has performed so far, and is clearly the one to beat. I think so far, only Avon (maybe) can come close. Let's just recall that it looks like BA won with not their best run. Finals looks really bright for them tonight

Some questions upthread that are unanswered:
Vista Ridge being called last is part of a long tradition for bands that have never made grand national finals.
It is correct that both Wando and Round Rock have never missed finals before tonight.

boahistorybuff, please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure with Norwin being the Class 2A Champion exhibition band, this marks the first time ever that Marian Catholic is not performing in Grand National Finals in any capacity

Marian has really suffered in the music caption these last few seasons. I think, had they gotten their brass under control & brought those woodwinds out, they would’ve won the music and the class with it. Chaos seems to be Marian’s middle name these days. As for visual, they still have a world class guard and I was sorta shocked they didn’t take that caption.

Shoutout to ABC -- Avon, Broken Arrow, and Carmel -- for being the 3 most consistent bands in America. All 3 shows are excellent and reflect the identity of each program. May the best run win! Remember the judging panel is a fresh set of eyes and ears tonight.

Claudia Taylor Johnson in the bottom half Along with Ronald Reagan. It's quite possible that 8th place in semifinals was closer to 4th than to 9th.

Sure, Flower Mound got one of the best performance slots. But shouldn’t they be worried that they’re going after Avon, and Carmel respectively? I think their music scores is what ultimately hindered them in semis.

Any way that you look at it, it’s going to be one heck of a finals tonight. All bands are worthy of being there. So hard to see a few others that could have made it but just barely missed. They should all be proud as this was a tough semi’s.

Wouldn’t be surprised if semis placements looked like this with all 6 Texas finalists being the middle 6:
BA Carmel Avon Flower Mound Marcus Woodlands CTJ Ronald Reagan Vista Ridge DB William Mason Blue Springs
