Dan is so right about audience participation I found the whole thing weird. I mean...there's not one person there for Grand Nationals that doesn't know that the energy of the crowd propels performances. Or that the marching beat and degree of simultaneous demand of these performances is hard. You would be shocked. A lot of band parents have no idea what’s going on and they’re just their to show support. Source: my mom

Personally, I don’t see any changes in top three or order. I think it’s quite possible BA will sweep captions. The circles rotated in semi’s. Something else up their sleeve. Hmmm.
1. Broken Arrow (GE, V) 2. Carmel 3. Avon (M) 4. Flower Mound 5. The Woodlands 6. Reagan 7. CTJ 8. Marcus 9. Blue Springs 10. Vista Ridge 11. Mason 12. D-B

I can infer a lot about directors from the band's fans. Slightly off topic but one band in NC has been notorious for being very insular and having fans that only applaud for them. That's on the director.

For those of you who have used Box5 for mobile with a web browser, does it work well? Thinking about buying a finals webcast but I'm gonna be on my phone for it. I’ve watched on my phone all season and it works great. Especially with a good set off ear buds.

Murray comes on looking a whole lot like the Troopers.

Not at all controversial opinion: Flower Mound's Seuss show is wonderful. Being a former tuba/euphonium guy myself, I especially love the 20-sousaphone and 2-euphonium groove-down session in the middle of the show. IT's the highlight of the year for me. I would love to see them sneak away with a medal.
Controversial (?) opinion: Broken Arrow's music book is boring as hell. Melody. Woodwind flourish. Power chords. Rinse repeat. I am NOT saying they don't deserve to win, just that their music book is boring.

This is a hot jam number with the trombone soloist from Murray.
They're super having fun with this last run. It's a little loose, but a relaxed and fun run.

But I'm not sure even their most ardent fans wouldn't admit they have a somewhat formulaic approach.

I was thinking Murray must be a large 1A school somewhere in the 800-900 range to be this large and talented. They’ve got less than 500 students 9-12! I counted about 40 hornline plus 18 guard and 17 percussion. 75 is a pretty nice chunk of the total school!

For the size of the band that Murray is, the sound they produced was phenomenal!

Just kicking myself for not recognizing yesterday how good Murray was.
On another note: you see the occasional show about jewel thieves and the like who sometimes get away with the crime in the end, but it's pretty remarkable to have high school students present a show about a criminal who actually talks about how much he likes committing crimes.

Maybe I asked this already but I’ve had about 10,000 thoughts go through my mind today. Who writes for Murray? THAT is how you design for a 1A band!

To me, Broken Arrow's show was designed specifically to win the Eagle. It has all the parts of a Grand Nationals champion from the visual design to the music book to the color guard. But I think that because it was made in this fashion, it doesn't have the personality to it that a lot of other shows this year have, if that makes any sense. I still love the production and think they're performing it spectacularly but it's not my favorite of the season.

I've got to agree with some of the others here in that Broken Arrow's show bores me. That said I hope they win because performance-wise they're clearly the best in my opinion.

How would Indiana class A bands like Lewis cass, western, and edgewood fare against the dominant force of Kentucky? I don’t understand why they just choose not to compete anymore after state.
