Name you favorite show that you think was ahead of its time and helped push the activity further or didn’t get the recognition it deserved at the time.
Mine would be: The Woodlands 2011, “Uninvited”
I think what makes this ahead of its time in my opinion is how the Alanis Moriessette was weaved with the Beethoven as well as how the chairs were not only utilized as props to tie into the concept (really big today instead of props that just aren’t utilized), but were also moved around effortlessly with the drill.

Plymouth-Canton 1999, next question.
L.D. Bells trilogy shows 2005-2007.
Leanders 1999 show to a very very slight extent.

I have many examples in the history thread. For this post I am going to go way back to Herscher HS IL, their 1981 and 1982 shows in particular. The 1982 show is what won them the Summer National title (yes back when that was a thing). I do have posts on this band in the vintage video thread. I think they were ahead of their time because of their music style in relation to how marching bands played back then. Herscher introduced a music style that at the time was described as a symphonic concert band on the marching field. This whole idea of sounding like a symphonic band rather than a drum corps or college marching band really took off after Herscher's early 1980s success. I suspect they had influence on bands that were up and coming in the early 1980s like Marian Catholic and Lake Park who took this musical style to a whole new level by the end of the 1980s.

Plymouth-Canton 1999, next question. Just watched that one. Neat! The visual concept at the climax reminds me of a student animated film I saw in the early 1980s titled "Alligator Allegory."

That show was designed by Alan Spaeth, current designer for Flower Mound. Mr. Spaeth designed those late 1990s/early 2000s shows of PCEP. All of them were brilliant with 1999's Thought Crime being exceptionally well done.

I've always felt like Marian 2001 was a decade ahead of its time. Especially since the Cadets would pull the same gimmick exactly 10 years later

Two more that are in the vintage video thread that I consider were years ahead of their time:
Center Grove 1988
Jackson Academy 1993

Despite its obvious flaw, Crockett '93 was... unconventional.

PCEP 2010 I feel incorporated a lot of elements that are extremely common in BOA these days - huge tarps, non-traditional uniforms, a choir, etc.

Most people are not aware of this but there was actually a lawsuit that came out of the aftermath of what happened with Crockett in 1993. Eventually the suit was settled but the resolution included a court order that the record surrounding those tragic events would be sealed for 50 years. Part of the court order also included that anyone with knowledge of what really happened would be prohibited from speaking publicly about it. Most of us here that do know what happened were told privately by someone who was a member of the Crockett band. But even now 28 years later that court order prohibits us from posting here or anywhere else the true story.
So if you really want to know what happened, come back in early November of 2043 and we will finally be able to tell you.
