Way-too-early prediction time. I am nobody and my opinions don’t matter. 1. Noblesville H.S., IN 2. Lakota West H.S., OH 3. Miamisburg H.S., OH 4. Worthington Kilbourne H.S., OH 5. Milford H.S., OH 6. Franklin Central H.S., IN 7. Campbell County H.S., KY 8. Hilliard Bradley H.S., OH 9. Central Crossing H.S., OH 10. Gateway H.S., PA 11. Norton H.S., OH 12. Fairfield H.S., OH ————— 13. Carroll H.S., OH A — Norton H.S., OH AA — Miamisburg H.S., OH AAA — Milford H.S., OH AAAA — Noblesville H.S., IN Going somewhat bold with my prediction for the gold. I fully expect Noblesville to surprise us, as they have been really building something special there the last couple of years. Lakota West and Miamisburg, or even potentially Worthington Kilbourne after a phenomenal season last year, round out our medalists. Milford, Franklin Central, Campbell County and Hilliard Bradley are all very solid programs that should be standouts at this show. Central Crossing, Gateway, Norton and Fairfield fill out the rest of finals, though I will say, those last few spots could go to a handful of other groups not listed!

Looks like Gateway has dropped and West Carrollton has added. Marshall University is the exhibition band at 4:15. There's been some news that just came out and Gateway's bands director who has been relieved so this does not surprise me. However, I hope that the kids still have a good memorable season.

Archbishop Carroll H.S., OH - 2:45 I've seen Carroll listed on many competition lists (BOA and MSBA) and heard them announced at many shows. This is the first time I've encountered a reference to Archbishop Carroll.

That is the name of the school - they just go by Carroll. Just as Alter and McNicholas and Moeller drop the "Archbishop" part of their name in common use Alter usually includes Archbishop, McNick has started doing so in recent years, and Moeller occasionally includes it (for band only). Carroll - never seen or heard it used before today.

I think Lakota West is poised to win, that would be really great for them.

I think Lakota West is poised to win, that would be really great for them. I think Noblesville is poised to surprise! If anything they will not make it a cakewalk for Lakota West. The latter has the edge in prelims given performance times — but come finals, it will be an exciting duel!

Archbishop Carroll H.S., OH - 2:45 I've seen Carroll listed on many competition lists (BOA and MSBA) and heard them announced at many shows. This is the first time I've encountered a reference to Archbishop Carroll. There are many, many schools in this area that for whatever reason use the full name only for marching band. Only through marching band have I ever heard "Archbishop Carroll, William Mason, Walter E. Stebbins, or Larry A. Ryle." Archbishop Alter is also very rarely used. Those schools are Carroll, Mason, Stebbins, Ryle, Alter, etc. when used in pretty much any other context.

In terms of BOA, Archbishop Carroll has always gone by Carroll. This is the same band that appeared in Grand national finals in 1982 and 1983 and won the Grand National class A title in 1983.
Interesting to note that in BOA, it has always been Archbishop Alter and never just Alter. In the last couple of decades Mason has gone by William Mason. However they did participate in a few BOA events in the 80s where they were just referenced as Mason. In the early 1980s, it was Tate HS, then in the late 80s they were referred to as JM Tate. Seems last season it was Johnson HS from Buda, TX and now I am seeing it as M&G Johnson HS. So confusing.

And The Woodlands College Park is now just College Park, the reverse of the trend for schools like Nikki Rowe to be known as McAllen Nikki Rowe and Fossil Ridge to be known as Keller Fossil Ridge. Reminds me of the way The OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) lists some schools. There is only one Lakota East and one Lakota West, but they are known by OHSAA as Liberty Township Lakota East and West Chester Lakota West. Interestingly, Mason is just Mason (if they followed the same process, it would be Mason William Mason). BTW, it's Dayton Carroll with no mention of Archbishop whereas all the other schools with Archbishop in their name are listed that way. My life experience is that Archbishop Carroll is a school in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
