They’ve had a couple down years recently. I don’t know much about Beavercreek? Beavercreek also seems to have lost a little bit of what they were prior to COVID. They typically attend an early Ohio regional and/or the Indy Super every season. Without looking, I believe they’ve placed in the top 20 before at Indy, if not making finals altogether at least once. Their design style leans more towards “modern retro.”

Homestead, Rockford, Jenison, Goshen, Plymouth-Canton are your top 5. Homestead is the clear #1. 2-5 could be in any order.
In AA, if Jenison were to win again this year that would be 5 in a row. Quite the run for them.

Not this year, at least.

I have no idea about official numbers, but from what I could tell driving by their band camp last week, they do seem to be a little smaller than last season (which was their smallest band in 20+ years!). Homestead has been struggling to recruit the past few seasons, and in my mind, it's a perfect storm of reasons as to why. First you had their long time Director/Assistant Director, Mr. Wadkins, leave along with most of the major staff members who had been there for years. Next you have covid which has hurt numbers everywhere especially in the elementary and middle school levels (the crucial feeder programs). Last, you have the MAJOR school renovation that has basically caused havoc on everything at Homestead. The band will be finally moving into their state-of the art classroom by the end of this year, early next year.... but for the past few season they have been struggling with sharing spaces with other programs as construction has moved forward. What it means for the program long term? I have no clue, but you can definitely see what these variables have done in the short term. I have not heard or seen anything regarding this years show, so I have no thoughts about the production as of yet (they have their community preview next Friday, August 5th, so I will know more then). I do think the days of Homestead being a "major player" in the state may be done though. You have other programs that have and will continue to eclipse Homestead as they struggle to recruit and rebuild. We have seen it before with plenty of other successful programs over the years.

What's very interesting is that Homestead continues to have one of the cheapest student fees in Indiana, if not the country, of their pedigree. Only $400.00 (slightly more for first years and color guard). I think this is pretty indicative of a majority of school systems in the country. The middle school arts programs are getting little to no support causing a dip in those numbers or generally not stirring the excitement in kids to continue. While I have zero information regarding the programs feeder programs, I can quickly take a look at the neighboring school districts (Fort Wayne, East Allen, etc) and see the same thing happened to them. No program, no matter how established, will have a good time with those conditions. Let's just hope this is a case of less is more now.

I "think" Avon's is around 7 or 800 though that may have changed.

Yes, ancient history to some but just wanted to point out that Beavercreek returned to BOA around 2018, but they first appeared in BOA many many years ago.

Reeths-Puffer's enrollment numbers have come down a bit over the last few years as has the size of their band. I am not sure what the financial situation is in the school district. DeWitt has been a mid sized program on the rise. If current trends continue, they may do very well at Toledo. Jenison has been in the midst of a resurgence the last several years. I was impressed with them last year and saw a lot of sophistication in their show. I have high expectations for them this season. Rockford has been a very solid program. I was a little surprised they did not place higher at Grand Nationals last year, but I still think they will have a solid program this year. PCEP's numbers were down last year. I wonder if Covid hit the program hard. Not sure what to expect from them this year. I wish Lake Orion and Walled Lake were going to this regional. Maybe they will end up attending.

RP is a program I really hope to see recover. This is one group that was one of the most noticably affected by everything. Beavercreek is a program that knows how to put on a fun show! Get a bit more visual flair going and they can certainly start rising up.

Their director retired a few years ago too, I’m not sure how much of an impact that had.

Man that is bold. Who’s your gold and silver then? Rockford wins PCEP 2nd I'm more inclined to put Jenison 2nd if we are going by your current ranking but that is just me. Homestead is in the middle of band camp now and plan on making my way to a couple practices hopefully to scout out more on them. I'm curious though just how much Warfield (probably) not being there hurts in the beginning since he is the brass co-head caption head with the Mandarins (having an incredible season btw). I'm sure once he is back things will really pick up and would love to hear Homestead have the brass power of Mandarins!

Everyone else just throwing rocks at the group it seems these days 😅😓 I double checked the band camp schedule and it's still the same as when I was in it (8-5). So unless I get a surprise day off during the week, won't be until the first home football game that I'll get to see them. That's August 19th. We are so close to the season everyone! 😁
