I definitely see Millcreek possibly edging out of the bottom six. Nice program! I don’t “get” that show though.

Mill Creek definitely at the top of the pack from these first six. This is my first viewing of them, but after watching the top six in prelims it feels inevitable that they'll be passing a few of them up tonight.

Sitting near the Trumbull band. Such a shame how disrespectful some of these kids are being during other band performances.

I love that the Baldwinsville drum majors dyed their hair pink. Lol

Baldwinsville seemed to have some minor electronics issues and weren't quite as solid as earlier today. Regardless, I really enjoy that show. Please, please, please keep building this program back up and come back to BOA! They are such a great addition.

Check out their 2019 80s show if you haven't seen it! What I love most about their approach is how accessible it is to such a wide audience.

Fort Mill did a nice job. I’m just not a fan of their show design.

That felt like a complete turnaround from Fort Mill's earlier performance. I still find the design a bit strange or stuck in time, but they have been the best performing band so far, and not by just a little. I don't see how this falls outside the top 3 tonight.

Fort Mill’s show flows (no pun intended) better when the electronics are working. Crazy how that works lol

Fort Mill was definitely better. Not sure where they’ll place. Apart from an oboe issue the ballad was the highlight.
I really like this James Madison show. I would honestly not be upset if this won over kiski. Much more to my liking design wise. Not to mention their knockout soloists

I really like independence. Especially musically. Guard super solid. End kind of drags on, but not bad!

I feel like Independence had the sheer advantage of having 50 more bodies on the field to utilize. It's amazing how much effect you can generate just by having more mass (and volume) to manipulate. They sounded MASSIVE on the livestream!

Independence was great! Really feel like this was a step down for James Madison. Just not feeling this show from them....

Some thoughts: Kiski: Yeah……. yeah…… James Madison: I think design (and the wide range of skills/atmospheres displayed) keeps them in the top 3, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Ft. Mill eclipsed them due to sheer performance excellence Ft. Mill: what a unique show!! I get what others said earlier about a mix of 1990s and 2022 design conventions. Personally, I’m a sucker for the old school white show/blue pant combo (feels very North Penn to me), especially when everyone’s feet are moving in time at a fast tempo. There was an intensity to this performance that makes everything work for me, even if it shouldn’t’ve on paper. Loved it!! Green Hope’s show idea felt like an indoor show idea designed with classic fall band drill. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I can see why they were seeded in the top 6. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they were in the bottom 6. A wildcard for me. Any directors of small/medium-sized bands: take a look at Edison’s show! They made so many clever choices in terms of staging and choreography (and fresh arrangements of classic music pieces). FANTASTIC show!! Shout-out to Baldwinsville for having what was maybe the smallest band tonight. I counted 35 winds, 9 battery, maybe 15-20 guard? Such smart staging of the props, guard, shako placements, and the tarp to make the field feel so massive. And those uniforms were FABULOUS!! I wanted to place Mill Creek higher but there were too many question marks between transition moments. I also felt their visual focus was unclear quite often. The majority of their effect came purely from their excellence. Groups like Edison and Bville, while less excellent in performance at times, had more continuity and excitement in their overall design plan. I was just getting home from errands when Thomas Jefferson started, so my impression may be off. I also suspect they have a better musical run in them. After seeing the other finalists, I’m curious to see how West Genesee fared in prelims. Something tells me they barely edged out a few other groups for that last finals spot. That being said, they’re going through a cultural rebirth right now, so this top 12 placement must feel especially sweet. And that colorguard was phenomenal!! Overall, I could see a lot of these groups switching places… there was a wide array of excellence tonight in regards to: - Design of vertical events (memorable moments) - Design of horizontal events (coherent flow from moment to moment) - Performance quality/energy - Musical and visual cleanliness , and that’s exactly why I LOVE marching band in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Curious to see how this all pans out!!

One additional note now that I'm remembering Kiski is attending nationals: I don't think it's just the AA bands that need to keep an eye on Kiski this year.

Some pretty tight scores in the middle/bottom of the finalist pack. The only big surprise for me was Mill Creek's placement. May have to give them another viewing.
This bodes well for Kiski heading into the rest of the season. That's certainly an impressive score out of a band in the Northeast for this point in the season! Call me crazy, but based on that performance alone, I have them in the top half of the finals bubble.

Kiski is going to be dangerous, and not just to the top 20. Can’t believe I’m saying that but it’s going to be fun watching them the rest of the year
