I have question what regional has the highest state representation? Are you referring to the be greatest number of different states represented or sheer number of same state representation? Because the latter is most definitely SA lol. Different States. Becuz we're almost at 10 different states.

I have question what regional has the highest state representation? Great question. Calling boahistorybuff . Without researching the data I will assert that in most recent years, any "regular" Regional with six or seven different states represented would be on the high end. The Mid-Atlantic Regional, wherever it is held, is one that is usually among the highest number of states (relatively short travel distances come into play). The St. Louis SR typically has the greatest number of states represented outside of Grand Nationals, although there are years that the Indy SR tops St. Louis.

Sorry, I have been on vacation and away from the forums for a while. Good Question indeed. I think hewhowaits has it correct. The Mid Atlantic and St Louis Super regional typically have the biggest representations from different states. In the Mid Atlantic regionals, I think that is simply because those states along the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast are small in area, but with large populations, so essentially a lot of states within driving distance. The St Louis regional is simply location location location. It is centrally located and within a reasonable driving distance to a lot of states (Missouri alone borders 8 states). Yes, there are years when the Indy Super Regional may rival St Louis in terms of state representation. Back in the days of the Atlanta Super Regional, there were a few times where that one drew in a large number of states as well. I do however think that if you take out the super regionals, it has typically been the regionals held in the Mid Atlantic (Maryland and eastern Pennsylvania, and back in the old days Morgantown WV) that have the most states represented.

Somewhat related, I guess, and one of my favorite BOA factoids: the 2003 Phoenix (AZ) regional was scheduled for 11/1, the same day as the AZ state championships. As a result, this show (in the MIDDLE of Arizona) had 23 bands in prelims... NONE from Arizona, the host state. (7 from CA, 5 each from NV and TX, 4 from NM, 1 each from WA and NE)

Not to veer too off topic but that reminds me of the days Texas bands traveled a little bit more out of state, J.M Hanks and Bel Air come to mind often going to the Las Vegas regional or it’s variations.
There’s certainly a lot less regional diversity down here than there is over in the Northeast. This regional in particular is looking to be a very fun one as always

And they could spend a day in DC seeing all of the history!

Cab Calloway is a “AA” band due to them having 2 high schools housed in the same building. Also, through word from staff, Unionville high school, PA will be in attendance.

There are videos of Fort Mill and James Madison up currently.
The video of Fort Mill from Wando is off to the side so it is a little hard to tell everything going on but I have to say it is a rather oddly arranged show. Don’t recognize much of the music. Visual seems much better than last year, especially guard but they are still small. But last year was the worst show in probably their competitive existence. I would imagine maybe they have some stand in props or fronts, maybe even different uniforms coming like 2018 but not sure. That run had some musical errors but all in all seemed pretty typical for FM in September (which usually is pretty rough).
I think the goal is to make finals and top half finish icing on the cake 🍰
Speaking of cake (and candy)… check out James Madison on YT. They are pumping out a lot of sound and the theme is super fun. Definitely think they are medalist worthy.
Haven’t seen anything from Kiski.
Weather looks good along the east coast at the moment so everyone will have a good week to clean.

I’m pretty sure Fort Mill’s opening statement is “Master Oogway Ascends” from Kung Fu Panda (lol) but they’re also playing Meditation, I’m super happy to hear that piece again. Although Carmel’s version will always be my favorite

Prediction time... 1. Kiski Area, PA 2. James Madison, VA 3. Thomas Jefferson, VA 4. Rock Ridge, VA 5. Mill Creek, GA 6. Independence, VA 7. West Genesee, NY 8. Baldwinsville, NY 9. Fort Mill, SC 10. Green Hope, NC 11. Lightridge, VA 12. Trumbull, CT Given how many of these groups: - Haven't received a score yet this season (due to weather and/or hosting home shows) - Compete in different circuits (USBands, VMBC, NYSFBC, NJMBDA, TOB, Cavalcade of Bands, PIMBA, and non-circuit sanctioned shows) - Were more greatly affected by the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 than other regions' bands - Are historically up and down in terms of competitive consistency , trying to predict these results is insane I feel like the prelims spread between 6th and 21st will be <7 points... seems like so many of these bands may be roughly in the same neighborhood. Curious to see how it all pans out!

Under normal circumstances I’d agree, but only the senior class has ever been to a BOA regional and the last one they placed 6th. Granted a pretty stacked Powder Springs. I guess st George too. They’ve been through a lot in the past 4 years, director/ staff changes, school split with CR, and a pretty covid adverse response in 2020. Thinking this is still a rebuilding year but happy to hear they did pretty well at the Low Country Invitational two weeks ago.
