Predictions: 1) Hebron 2) Marcus 3) Flower Mound 4) Coppell 5) LD Bell 6) Keller 7) Timber Creek 8-12) Idk
My gut tells me Marcus and Coppell will both have a particularly good season, and Hebron will figure out their early-season visual stuff this year.

Heres my way too early predictions based entirely on heresy of programs and my personal thoughts. 1. Flowermound 2. Marcus 3. Hebron 4. Keller 5. Coppell 6. L.D. Bell 7. Southlake Carroll 8. Timber Creek 9. Wakeland 10. Waxahachie 11. Lone Star 12. Wylie East ---------------- 13. Lebanon Trail 14. James Martin 15. Aledo 16. Rock Hill My reasoning for Hebron in 3rd is due mainly to their generally weaker early season when compared to other schools at the same "level" as them along with having honor band as a focus which happens not too long after marching season, so when you take region prep and their ensemble/solo practice AND their honor band preparation into account, its a lot for the students and directors to focus on and so I think their early season is going to suffer a bit with how much time is split, and the rest is purely just my way too early thoughts lol. I actually think the focus last Spring on their Honor Band recordings may ultimately give Hebron an advantage here. They will be better prepared to play those tricky musical passages they’re so well known for. 💙 I predict Hebron in second here for the other reason you listed. They are more of a slow burn. 😊 I honestly thought their 2021 slow burn should’ve won this contest last year, imo the performance levels between them and flower mound were on another tier, at least on the musical performance side👀

Hebron was significantly dirtier than they were at SA, at least from the videos I saw. Makes sense considering how difficult that show was I would say that I definitely got an earful of both groups situated where I was at Pennington right in between the 40’s closer to field level in the first few rows, so I definitely didn’t see the picture from up top. Hebron was definitely dirtier than they were at the end of the year as every group is, but even then I felt their musical performance was on another level on the night in question. From the full ensemble moments, section to section, that Hebron low brass was such a treat to hear especially in the first two movements, their small ensembles, that sax ensemble and ballad was already at a SA finals quality imo with what I heard in their finals run. Their most technical sections were considerably dirty and still needed some rehearsal to clean, but in hearing flower mound, their full ensemble moments weren’t nearly as resonant or in tune as Hebron’s were, I will commend the flute duet that is in their pre show, that was wonderful and really was a sweet opening to that show, much appreciated giving the crowd some warm fuzzie feelings to begin the show. They had excellent woodwind, pit and low brass moments. Maybe I’m simply advocating for what I depicted as a wider spread between Hebron and FloMo in the music caption, and less of a spread in the visual caption. I’m not even going to begin to comment on GE because that’s a whole other can of worms haha

I am asking any of y’all lovely peoples for updates/topics/info about what to look for in one of our DFW regionals as this area has basically been *Radio Silent* when it comes to finding about what DFW bands are doing and I am MAD😡😤 I haven’t even seen a video of my own alma mater which is quite jarring since I see early season videos of them on YouTube pretty much every year and I’m like *!!!* WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!

Lone Star is absolutely one to look out for. Did a quick look at their recent placements here and I see they got 26th in 2017 and 2018, skipped in 2019, and placed 10th in 2021. There show last year was good but I think they're a totally different monster this year.

Not very surprising given their trajectory and the quality of Frisco schools and their feeder programs, I’m waiting for most of them to pop off in marching band circles other than wakeland and aside from UIL marching as well haha. Best of luck to them!

So imagine my confusion and shock when I learned of Frisco ISD.

I'm very interested to see if Wakeland can keep their lead over Coppell and Keller here. Last year they were 2nd at HEB as well and slipped at this competition a week later. I think given their shorter season this year they may be further ahead on the track than most bands, especially since DFW area bands seem to generally peak late season.

Some of yesterday's local competitions:
Flower Mound took 1st at the Wylie Invitational Keller Central 2nd Lone Star 3rd Marcus took 1st at the HEB Marching Contest Wakeland 2nd Coppell 3rd Hebron took 1st place at the Mesquite Marching Festival Aledo 2nd Rockwall 3rd Based on this, we can assume ... nothing Next week at BOA Dallas should be fun when the LISD schools go head-to-head for the first time

I’d probably say for them, slipping would be like 5th-7th at worst. It’s kinda hard to keep FloMo, Hebron, and Marcus away from the medalist stand. Although I’m always looking for a band other than those 3 LISD bands to contend for a top 3 placement, Wakeland and several other bands as well have brought their A-game this year so I believe it can happen! I’m incredibly excited for this contest on Saturday!

Based on what I saw yesterday I actually thought Coppell had a good shot at topping Marcus, as I thought their show had a higher degree of difficulty and had more standout moments for me, but they had a fair amount of dirt in their finals run. Neither band performed their closer yet, so I'm wondering if we'll see them this Saturday.

I’ve heard Coppell and Marcus being compared and talked about in tandem a lot and their similarities/differences in how they go about their show. I think they’re fairly similar in sound and approach to ensuring clarity whenever anything is being played, both have their standout moments when viewed in person. Whatever the rubric is for either group, both are excellent and the margins are gonna be close between them. In terms of difficulty, Marcus is as identifiable as any group in the activity, you know what they’re gonna bring to the table, and they really don’t play it safe or easy with their production this year, you can start with their percussion section to see how heavy their involvement and contribution is, it’s great to hear!

For sure, Marcus has long had one of the best percussion programs in the state if not the country. It's very impressive that even when Drinkwater moved up to the district level several years ago they've been able to maintain the Marcus standard and that symphonic sound they've become known for.

Hopefully lone Star makes it again! They were so good last year.
