It was 59 degrees last week, and I was sweating bullets outdoor, and I was barely walking around the park and only had on a short sleeve shirt. 59 is too hot for me.

Many of these smaller groups are doing such a phenomenal job at maintaining tune in that 59 degree outdoor Waco weather. Loving what I’m seeing from Argyle! One would hope so. 55-65 is the sweet spot.

M.G. has great general effect. Very easily noticeable motifs that blend together really well. It’s got the clearest and cleanest transitions for me which regardless of audience enjoyment always bodes well for GE.
Still not a fan of Leanders ballad. It’s too much park and bark which is a shame because it’s played beautifully. Wish they’d move around more.

59 degrees. I guess I walked right into this one! Low hanging fruit so come and get you sum 🤠🤠🤠 Standard tuning is only affected by ~1Hz/°C change A=440Hz at 20°C (68°F ambient temperature in most climate-controlled concert halls and similar spaces) A=435Hz at 15°C (your 59°F) Yes, enough difference that a good ear can tell pitch is flat even without hearing the 440 for direct comparison, but not so huge a deal for most But really 59°F isn't even remotely cold enough to be noteworthy. Once you get down into the 40s and lower, that's significant

Really great sounds out of Rouse! The show's not as strong as last year's, but they still sound fantastic and visually were quite clean.

Love the sort of sound Rouse puts out Definitely enjoyed their show last year more, but I could listen to them play Mary Had a Little Lamb and be quite content

Not from any scientific view, but more so what I feel would be the most comfortable to play in

I don’t think this is Rouse and Leander being weaker, Johnson is just that good. Gonna prematurely say they’re a finals lock at SA and GN. Which is definitely gonna come back and haunt me.

59 in Texas is like 40 degrees in dog years! Quote of the evening truly, so many bands at Areas B and C from what I was able to watch had tuning problems, it also genuinely felt chilly so I would imagine there were going to be many flat horns, especially with those woodwinds.

I enjoyed M&G Johnson's show. I loved their props. I am not an expert on Marching band so I have no opinion on who was stronger. I can say I enjoyed their show and I thought they sounded good. I can speak for Leander they had a difficult season with so much staff turn over. (head director, drumline director, color guard director) Then a massive amount of students out with the flu for a while. Lastly, a death of an important person to the band and a parent of some of the students. So I can say they rallied and improved greatly from BOA Austin. I am very happy with where they are and I am also very happy for the other LISD bands. on that note Vista Ridge did fantastic at 6A UIL.

I’m so happy that I made the drive down to Waco for this fantastic contest! This was my first time attending this particular regional and I have to say that I enjoyed it more than most of the regionals I’ve ever attended! Why? Because it was a breath of fresh air seeing so many NON 4A bands competing for a change. (I wonder if this regional set a record for most 3A bands attending a BOA regional. 😊)
A few thoughts.
Cedar Park is ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. This is the best Cedar Park show I’ve ever seen and it’s absolutely my favorite 2022 marching show. I can’t wait to see it again twice next weekend.
M&G Johnson, the only 4A band in attendance, was so much better live than I had even hoped! I knew they were great when I was watching them recently on Box5, but they were absolutely amazing today live in Waco. And that guard!!! Can’t wait to see how they do at GN!
Rouse is such a joy to watch and listen to. I’m so happy they took a medal here!
Leander exceeded my expectations after the rough season they’ve had with Director changes and sickness. I was so so proud of them today. They sounded fantastic and I think they are in good hands for the foreseeable future!
McKinney North was just so fun!! I felt like they were a 3A version of the Woodlands! Great stuff.
I truly loved this competition and all of the bands I saw today, even if I didn’t mention them here. If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I enjoyed it!!

Congratulations to Cedar Park on their second BOA regional title. I also want to use them as an example. They had a few rough seasons in the late 2010s. Not only did they mount a comeback, they are stronger than ever. Time to start thinking about returning to Grand Nationals. Also, my thoughts go out to all the bands and spectators who had to endure the brutally cold 59 degree weather. Yes I know Texans, it's all relative. Us Michiganders dont like performing when temps are over 80, way too hot.

I wish they didn’t have to compete against so many other phenomenal programs this next weekend because they deserve a VERY big trophy! It ain’t fair sometimes. 🤪 I admit that I have definitely already acclimated to the climate of NW Arkansas so I thought yesterday felt amazing in the Baylor Stadium. I did wear a hoodie and covered up in a blanket by the time finals was half over, but I thought it was perfect band contest weather! 😍

Bands also felt a lot more comfortable on the field in finals, probably cause of the same reasons and also being able to adjust throughout the day.
