Personally, I found Dartmouth’s one person guard show distracting. I was watching a performer attempting big tricks and it was pulling my eye and attention from anything else happening on the field. It felt disconnected from the rest of the show. I didn’t see any unison weapon tosses from the backup guard, but maybe I just missed it. Was there a band on the field? Yes, that was my level of distraction. 🤣 I’ll watch the band and the rest of the guard tonight but I do not see how the visual and GE captions went to Dartmouth on this. Grant it Norwin guard had errors across the guard in prelims. I’d like to see that cleaned up for finals. I don't disagree the rest of the guard needs to come up quite a few levels. This is a MAJOR rebuilding year for them with lots of middle schoolers, and they need quite a bit of weapons training. But when you have the Boston Crusaders' featured soloist in your color guard, it kind of makes sense to use him. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dartmouth is really good visually, and for a band that small they are well balanced musically. I’m not a percussion person but I couldn’t help but watch their drumline and DANG they are good.

Downingtown West came out with fire tonight! Please keep coming to BOA! I could easily see them jumping up tonight and wouldn't be at all surprised if they took at least a caption.

Two Norwin wind players stumbled heading up one of the ramps at the end of the ballad. Hope they are alright :/

Dartmouth was better visually but I don’t see how Norwin loses in GE. It’s gonna be close

Very disappointed in that run by Norwin… Glad their guard cleaned up and the ending piece was in play. But with those visual stumbles on the ramp and the one who missed the turn backfield.. they sealed the deal as a 3rd or 4th place finalist. Dartmouth was flawless and James Madison is consistent. It will be a tight race between those two.

That would be the most recent season’s Percussion Scholastic World bronze medalist drumline, that was barely a fraction of a point behind Chino Hills

Also, a visual stumble up a ramp would not necessitate a drop in points. I remember a BOA judge once telling me that for falls, trips, stumbles, etc., recovery is taken into consideration. I can't say for sure who will win not being there but I would say Norwin's show design/ execution is above that of JM this year unless they have improved drastically since I saw them live at Newark.

I thought they put on a great show and could easily see them winning this tonight. Right now I have Norwin and Downingtown West pretty close, but that's more a reflection of DW coming out super strong tonight.

I was impressed with downingtown west. They have the numbers and the power to take a great design far. Their playing is just alright but was pretty impressed visually

I am once again speechless...
BOA: Please, please, please bring this regional back again if it is feasible. There are plenty of bands in the region that have yet to participate and would be a great fit in the circuit. So many talented bands up here who deserve this experience.

Question for boahistorybuff since I'm confident in them knowing the answer: Is Dartmouth the first Massachusetts school to win a BOA regional?

Question for boahistorybuff since I'm confident in them knowing the answer: Is Dartmouth the first Massachusetts school to win a BOA regional? That would be King Philip Regional HS. Believe their regional victories were 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2006.

JP Stevens was 4.3 higher in GE in finals vs prelims, did they change something or did the new panel of judges just really dig the lion king?

- Congrats on West Orange (NJ), Downingtown East (PA), Downingtown West (PA), Wakefield (MA), and Dartmouth (MA) on their 1st final appearance.
- Congrats on Westfield getting its 5th final appearance tying with South Brunswick HS and Piscataway HS record for 2nd most NJ band appearing in BOA final.
- Congrats on Brick Memorial and Elizabeth on making finals for their 3rd time.
- John P. Stevens getting its first bronze medal and marking their 4th appearance
- Wakefield (MA), and Dartmouth (MA) on becoming the 2nd and 3rd Massachusetts band to make finals
- Congrats on Dartmouth on winning the whole darn thing. This is what every Northeastern/Mid-Atlantic wanted for a long time. Just knew they were going to challenge the great Norwin/Kiski Area.
