Glad to see a Southern CA regional back. I'll be really surprised if we don't see Chino Hills signing up for this regional. Curious to see if Homestead makes the trip all the way down. Also wouldn't be surprised to see a few other Southern CA bands like Fountain Valley, Mission Hills, Trabuco Hills, etc.

Has this event gained any traction? I hope we don’t see another Californian regional canceled again. They need a more specific location before groups are going to commit. So Cal is a huge geographic area, and the last TBA regional ended up in Bakersfield.

So Cal is a huge geographic area, and the last TBA regional ended up in Bakersfield. That's fair. I'd expect more bands to start committing once they solidify the location. They should probably do that sooner rather than later to make sure any bands actually show up.

Piggybacking off of speculation regarding the status of this event, I have something to add:
Bingham H.S., UT is scheduled to go to SoCal for a marching band trip the weekend prior to this event. I wonder if it's possible that they're moving this event to October 29 instead of November 5?

I wonder if it's possible that they're moving this event to October 29 instead of November 5? My guess is that this is the WBA Big Orange Classic in conjunction with Riverside Community College. Since 2006, when the BOA regionals were reintroduced to California (before, it was primarily in Las Vegas), here are the number of bands competing: 2006, Los Angeles: 18 - 6 out of state, 12 in state 2007, Monterey Park: 19 - 2 Texas bands, 17 in state 2008, Monterey Park: 16 - 6 out of state, 10 in state 2009, Santa Clarita: 31 2010, Hemet: 16 - 5 out of state, 11 in state 2011: Not held 2012: Glendora, 18 - 3 out of state, 15 in state 2013: Long Beach, 15 - 7 out of state, 8 in state 2014: Long Beach, 23 - 8 out of state, 15 in state 2015: 2 regionals: American Canyon, 20 bands, 2 out of state, 18 in state Long Beach, 19 bands, 5 out of state, 14 in state 2016: 2 regionals: Long Beach, 23 bands, 6 out of state, 17 in state San Jose, 19 bands, 1 out of state, 18 in state 2017: 2 regionals, held the same day San Jose, 18 bands, 5 out of state, 13 in state Downey, 16 bands, 4 out of state, 12 in state 2018: 2 regionals, Valley Glen, 21 bands, 2 out of state, 19 in state Pleasant Hill, 11 bands, 1 out of state, 10 in state 2019: Bakersfield, 9 - 3 out of state, 6 in state 2020: Season cancelled 2021: Not held

Time to stop trying to make a California regional happen and try the PNW area again.

Yeah, I get it. WBA is huge and they have multiple shows in California every weekend. They also have great judges in the circuit. I'm no California expert, but it just seems like they like to support their own shows - which really is fine. California sheets are also quite different with performance captions really favoring Guard and Percussion - which really is pretty great. I should say bringing them up to Winds more so.
But BOA philosophy's is really GE and music centric (arguably) with creativity and variety being rewarded.
Can't blame the Cali bands honestly.

BOA's pricing is a hinderance, too. I've had more than one CA band director tell me it's hard to justify signing up for 1 BOA show for the price of 2 local shows, even though most of the reviews I've heard from CA directors has been largely positive about the BOA experience and BOA judging.
Two other BIG problems to having a CA regional: venue booking is an enormous nightmare in CA, and most CA bands don't finalize their fall calendars until the summer, much later than the rest of the country. I can guarantee you that there are many, many CA band directors who are only just now starting to formulate their fall plans/schedule.

Yes, they always seems to have the latest seasons in the country. I guess they can with their weather. Maybe school starts later? Not sure

Not that they were speculated, but Arcadia H.S., CA is avoiding this regional to go to St. George instead. I think the writing is on the wall for this regional. More and more California schools going to other regionals.
