This is a heavy contest. I can see things going a few ways in finals but this is my final guess (we all need to make one, right?!):
1. Vandegrift H.S., TX - They are going to win by 2.0+ points. Visually overwhelming and the music is already tight. 2. Ronald Reagan H.S., TX They are going to win visual pushing them barely above Cedar Park by the smallest of margins.
3. Cedar Park H.S., TX It hurts to put such a great conceived, played, and performed show in 3rd. I wouldn't be surprised to see this show in 2nd but their youth in the front ensemble and battery will show 4. Round Rock H.S., TX They made strides and cleaned this show up considerably. After the last few years it feels oddly great to put the Dragons this high at this contest
5. Vista Ridge H.S., TX This show is cleaning up nicely and they sound solid. I think they will fall below the Dragon at this show. At the end of the year they will overcome Round Rock but not yet.
6. Rouse H.S., TX Not too much of a change the last few weeks. They have supposedly hit hard by COVID.
7. Hendrickson H.S., TX They are pushing hard to Grand Nats.
8.Leander H.S., TX Big improvement since BOA Austin. They aren't playing like Leander (actually they sound a lot like Cedar Park of 2018) of near past but they are marching the show well. Director changes are hard. 9. Dripping Springs H.S., TX Huge strides made in bringing this band back to prominence with a well thought out and played show.
These last 3 can go any way
10. John B. Alexander H.S., TX My favorite dark horse in every contest
11. Louis D. Brandeis H.S., TX Up and coming band. They will learn a lot from this contest.
12. McNeil H.S., TX They always seem to be on the bubble. This contest brings them to finals.

Every year I get so hyped up for this comp only to remember that I'll have to vicariously live through the handful of audience members present who post about it on here haha. Maybe one day I'll get to venture out to see this comp:)

(this is also posted elsewhere so sorry if you're seeing it twice)
Although neither of them quite capture the song the way I'd like, I like Round Rock's composition of Adagio for Tron better than Vandys! The emphasis on low brass really mimics the synth of the original, really cool stuff.
(although I do hope bands realize Daft Punk has a lot of great songs that aren't on the Tron soundtrack)
Either way, great run from Round Rock! Happy to see them coming back as of late, the more RRISD bands doing well, the merrier!

I love watching these TX high school marching bands. My daughter is in Leander High School band and I am very fond of them of course. So far this season I am sooo impressed with Round Rock. I love their show. With that being said I have to give a huge shout out to LHS band. They are down 38 performers and still made it to the finals. Go TX marching bands!

Vandegrift with a narrower win than expected, but Reagan has a great show this year. Good to see Vista Ridge grab a few captions, they've got a superb sounding production this year. Hope I can see some videos from this contest online!

It was chaos in the stands during placement and caption announcements. I was surrounded by Rouse, CP, Round Rock, Reagan, and Vista parents. Score sheets are going to be fun to go over.
Congratulations to Vandy. Vista Ridge completely transformed their show since I last saw them on Monday at the LISD Festival of bands. And what a job they did. Well played and well marched. Reagan is a GE machine.
The score gap between Round Rock and Cedar Park was accurate. Cedar Park installed the finished program late this week. A lot of cleaning, dynamic changes, and GE to add still. Round Rock hasn't installed their 5th part as of yet. I'm sure they took a big GE hit for where the show ended and the prolonged park and bark. Rouse's show is now complete and it's my favorite Rouse show to date. It should clean up nicely.

These recap results are, in fact, bananas.
Prelims judges and finals judges were living on completely different planes of existence.
I don't know why auxiliary scores exist, but they paint a really weird picture when paired with visual scores.

Many of the performances were on different planes of existence from prelims to finals. The only shocker to me is colorguard.

The band that surprised me the most in prelims was Midway, they had an absolutely STUNNING performance and a really fun show. No idea what the judges were on to have them that far down. I had them firmly in the finals bubble on par with bands like McNeil and JBA.
