Are they going to switch to bicycle step for a movement? I’m interested…

Hello everyone! I thought this might be the best place for me to say that I'm back without having to create an entirely new thread. So here I am, announcing that I'm back and ready to engage with everyone on the forums! Just to give a quick catch up, I needed to decompress after a truly outstanding season and whirlwind finish last year. Then, I had to deal with some medical issues (had 4 toes and my right index finger amputated) so that put me out for awhile. So yeah, dealt with quite a bit. But like I said, I'm here again and excited to be back. So many new shows I'm looking forward to that have been announced with so many more to come. As long as no plans change (which you never know of course), it'll be great to once again live blog several of the BOA Regionals once again for everyone.

Am I wrong to feel there are more announcements than usual for this time of year? The number of announcements from BOA "regulars" hasn't increased. Our band website stalkers are posting announcements from bands that have never been on our radar before (or even now based on lists of potential BOA event attendees). This is a good thing - we have to remember that BOA participants are a small percentage of the high school marching bands all over the country.

Plus, I think more and more groups are realizing that it is pretty much useless to try and hide their show themes/music in today's modern connected world. Better to build hype with flashy show announcements!

I’m aware there’s always a surplus of non-BOA band announcements, it’s been this way for a few years. I do think there has been an increase in the announcements of BOA-regulars if only by a bit this year.

Does a flashy show announcement actually build hype? I think show titles and show themes are vastly overrated. They are fun and interesting, but are they really integral to winning?
Carmel was 2nd at BOA with a show last year called “The Expanse” and was essentially a show built around moving black scaffold. Greenfield-Central won a state championship in 2021 with the show about ramps.

I think it's about getting people excited about the show and the process.
