Limited data especially with last week's southern washout but here's a wild hack. 1. Harrison H.S., 2. Walton H.S. 3. Cleveland H.S 4. Nation Ford 5. Green Level 6. Catawba Ridge H.S., SC 7. Panther Creek 8. Cary, NC 9. Bassett, Va 10. Ardrey Kell,. Nc 11. Corinth Holders, NC 12. Clover H.S., I know less than zero about Fort Walton Beach I don't see Catawba Ridge that low. I see them more as 4th, even in contention with top 3 if they can take Cleveland. Yeah with very little data I could see 2-7 as being wide open. It's a wild guess.

I saw a video of CR from the Nation Ford Exhibition back in the middle of September and I thought they were quite good! Really nice music design especially. Their shows are very programmed w/ regard to soundscape - kind of like how Fort Mill used to be in the early 2000s. I hope they do well!

Years ago Harrison had a tendency to clean and polish late in the season which could leave an opening for an upset but if they are remotely what they've been I still don't see any of these bands doing that.

Agreed. Unless Walton’s visual and show design is off the charts from the norm, this is Harrison’s to lose. Catawba Ridge was definitely a few steps ahead of Nation Ford in September from my eyes, so I would be surprised if Nafo eclipsed them.

I feel like
1. Harrison 2. Walton
3. Cleveland 4. Green Level 5. Catawba Ridge (I think these 3 will be close)
6. Nation Ford 7. Panther Creek 8. Green Hope 9. Bassett (I think this group will be somewhat close)
Last 3 could be any variation of these
Ardrey Kell, Cary, Powdersville, West Johnson, Corinth holders, Boiling Springs.

Just as a data point, Cary was two points behind GL but three ahead of GH in week 1. They should be safe to play twice here.

Updated predictions. I might end up modifying these slightly as more local competition results from this past weekend appear.
This is the show I personally am probably most excited for this weekend. Very competitive. Lots of fantastic programs. I believe this show is Harrison’s to lose, and 2nd through 5th, possibly 6th, could all make a case for a medal. I think Panther Creek, Cary and Green Hope all have pretty much guaranteed spots. Bassett is not one to count out, of course, though they are fielding what is probably their smallest band in a while. But, they have a super cute, crowd-pleasing show, as is their brand, so I think they’ll be fine.
The fight for the bottom finals spots is going to be ABSOLUTELY INSANE. I have a feeling the point spread between 10th and 17th place is going to be less than 3 points. Powdersville had a strong early start to the season, but I only put them so low due to their placement history at BOA shows and I haven’t seen any results from shows they’ve attended in three weeks. Corinth, Enloe, Smithfield and West Johnston have been neck and neck all season to my knowledge. Will be very interesting to see how this group of bands fare.
Going to be a fun show!!!

I keep waiting for Kell to make a leap. They are an affluent school whose shows clearly evidence an interest in high level performance but they have not quite gotten up to the level of being a serious competitor for top half of a competition like this. It's odd how different things seem to be on either side of the state line in the Charlotte metro. Maybe they think it's this year as they've positioned themselves to be at this boa, Nationals and Cary Band Day. Or at least they are diving deeper into the best competitions.

If it hasn’t happened yet for Kell I am thinking it probably won’t. It would really take a director with Scott Rush like vision to make it work in CMS. Despite the large school and affluence.

Not directly tied to this competition but what's up with River Bluff? They were terrific a few years back and I haven't heard much of them since.

New to the forums but I've been around the Carolina band scene for a couple of decades. I'm so looking forward to this show with so many great bands in attendance, and hoping for it to be a showcase of all the talented groups in the Carolinas. My rankings are just based off of what I've seen the past few weeks.
1. Harrison 2. Walton 3. Catawba Ridge (saw them this past week and BandBEAT and WOW!) 4. Cleveland 5. Green Level 6. Nation Ford (also seen at BandBEAT, very strong performance) 7. Panther Creek 8. Cary 9. Green Hope 10. Corinth Holders 11. Bassett 12. West Johnston ---------------------- 13. Powdersville 14. Fort Walton Beach (I know nothing about this program other than they were close to finals in Jacksonville last year) 15. Boiling Springs 16. Apex Friendship
For me 11-16 could go anyway, I feel the top 10 are locked in to finals but of course could change placements. One omission from my list is unfortunately Ardrey Kell. I saw their performance at the Nation Ford exhibition back in September and it was a serious step down from where they were the last time I saw them in 2019, sadly, covid and a staff change seemed to really hurt this band.

My mom went to band beat as well had similar thoughts! I like CR a lot but it definitely feels like a semi finalist goal just based on how much of the field they are using as their props kind of box them in a bit. But it’s a nice look they have

anyone get a feel for walton v. harrison at cobb exhibition earlier this week? Walton is easily in the running for 1st, much more so than Harrison. Personally, it's undisputed between the two.

Definitely see Both Harrison and Walton as front runners. But honestly having a hard time telling based on the videos I’ve seen of who is actually better. I guess Harrison but who knows

I agree that this is an interesting watch for the weekend. I’m especially excited to see if Catawba Ridge and Green Level are ready to take the baton from their storied sister schools.

I agree that this is an interesting watch for the weekend. I’m especially excited to see if Catawba Ridge and Green Level are ready to take the baton from their storied sister schools. I think it’s very likely they both are on top of their district mates, what I’m interested in is how they’ll stack up against each other. Two schools opening in the same year in districts with great history in the BOA scene, and they’re both arguably the best in their respective districts already.

I can't speak for CR but GL got Green Hope's director, retained same design team and a bunch of same marching band staff from the program as well as siphoning off a lot the most affluent neighborhoods previously assigned to GH or Panther Creek. So this was probably inevitable.

CR is an interesting one because they have already had a complete director and staff change since the school opened, with the former director/staff retiring and/or moving. The new directors both came from Ardrey Kell where they were starting to have some success even with the school district being so difficult to work in, so it is not at all surprising that they are having success with the backing of a community and school district like they have in Fort Mill.

Especially having an overnight trip in the same school calendar year of an Ireland trip Would have loved to see all high school bands in the town of Fort Mill represented in Winston but Fort Mill has become allergic to competing against CR and Nation Ford. Fort Mill will be at Mooresville NC competition where they will face ZERO serious competition and win. You would think Fort Mill staff would be preparing them to face more serious competition when they are at 5A state and will have to face Brynes and Wando

The biggest wildcards here are Fort Walton since they are out of their normal bubblenof competitors and Panther Creek, who has not completed yet due to the hurricane and hosting their own competition.
There is a video of them on YouTube from their home show and I thought they sounded a bit rough but being week one and not being in competitive mode (not to mention the limits of home video) make it hard to read too much into it.
