Since they have participated at this regional every year for over two decades, I would be shocked if they did not attend.

On the other hand, it's great to see that Homestead is doing early season regionals again.

Rockford to get a regional win? If Rockford has a great show it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but I wouldn’t bet against homestead based on their 5 year track record in BOA

Rockford was very close to GN finals last season - I won't be surprised to see further growth

Very cool to see multiple NY schools at the same regional! Even cooler to see that it's West Genesee and Victor. They've been pretty neck and neck competitively these past few seasons––excited to see how this will pan out, especially in comparison to some great Midwestern bands!

As far as Homestead goes, I think the reason they skipped last season was that it fell on the date of one of their home shows.

I know they are not the power that they once were, but will be nice to see West Genesee back at a BOA competition. Rockford has historically not been as strong at the early season regionals, they tend to peak later in the season (just not quite PCEP late). If Rockford can improve the visual aspect (more specifically the design) of their program over last year they will certainty be one to watch. This looks to be a lock for Homestead unless another band like William Mason decides to attend last minute. I see Walled Lake Central is skipping this one and going to Muncie. My biggest complaint with the scheduling is that this has almost always been one of the earlier regionals.

Way too early finalist and class champion predictions:
Carroll H.S., IN Homestead H.S., IN Jenison H.S., MI Lake Orion H.S., MI Miamisburg H.S., OH Norton H.S., OH Plymouth-Canton E.P., MI Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI Rockford H.S., MI West Genesee H.S., NY
Victor H.S., NY could certainly sneak their way in.
A: Norton H.S., OH AA: Jenison H.S., MI AAA: Miamisburg H.S., OH (by default as of 05/19) AAAA: Homestead H.S., IN

Homestead will more than likely be back in AAAA this year for future class predictions. This is dependent on what year they do enrollment numbers from as ISSMA and BOA may take from two different years.

An interesting one to keep an eye on. Not as deep as past year's, but it's still a solid regional top-down.
In tiers (alphabetical order): Homestead H.S., IN* ------------------------------ Rockford H.S., MI ------------------------------ Plymouth-Canton Ed. Park, MI* ------------------------------ Carroll H.S., IN Jenison H.S., MI Lake Orion H.S., MI Miamisburg H.S., OH* Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI Victor H.S., NY West Genesee H.S., NY
Oddly enough, that's ten.

I don't know if they would have won but medaling was certainly in the realm of possibilities.
Top 5 imo now is Carroll, Homestead, PCEP, Jenison, and Reeth's Puffer atm. Slightly surprised at how small this show is right now. Hope more groups will add.

How small does a Regional have to get before they just take everyone into Finals?

How small does a Regional have to get before they just take everyone into Finals? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I think it's usually 11 or 12 There have been cases where it’s been up to 14. It appears the 2017 Canton regional allowed all 14 bands to advance, but it appears one did not stay to perform. The 2016 Monroeville regional has all 14 bands in finals. I think 13 or 14 is a good number for the cut-off, though I’m not sure if there is an official cut-off stated in the handbook.

Looks like the Rockford Invitational got scheduled on this Saturday, which is why they dropped out. I would like to see more Michigan bands compete at this regional. Without Rockford and Walled Lake Central it is a bit lean. The other regionals in Ohio and Indiana are taking away participation at this regional. Maybe instead of Muncie and Toledo, they should hold a regional in Fort Wayne, maybe pull in bands from northern Indiana and southern Michigan.

Fort Wayne isn't a bad idea, but I really can't think of a suitable site for the competition. St. Francis isn't too bad, but it's also a very weird layout. IIRC, the stadium was by a tiny dinky road with the parking lot right across from it. You'd have bands, cars, buses and trailers sharing the road in a massive logistical nightmare with just 20 bands alone. DCI and Snider (who has been hosting their competition there) made it work on a smaller lineups and big breaks, but I really don't think St. Francis is suited to handle BOA. The other option is Homestead. It is much, much better in terms logistical flow- not to mention there's a reason why Homestead has two competitions at their site (their festival and ISSMA Scholastic Prelims). I question whether Homestead can handle 20+ bands, but I would be more confident in choosing them over St. Francis. I really, really would like to have an early weekend without any Ohio regional between Columbus-Muncie-Toledo. I'm excited for Muncie, but having 3 Midwest regionals within a day worth of driving between each site back-to-back-to-back is just poor planning on behalf of BOA. I know BOA is limited by scheduling and conflicts and whatnot, but having those dates so close to each other is cutting out a lot of participation from bands that could've double attended a BOA regional (Rockford, many Indy bands, etc.).

What limits Ft. Wayne from having a BOA regional isn't about having a location that can logistically handle that number of bands. It's the lack of a stadium large enough to handle the crowds. Homestead's stands get pretty packed even with an event with a lot smaller bands. Plus, despite it being the largest stadium in the area, it's still pretty small and down right JV compared to Texas ones
