The biggest changes to this year's winds schedule is shortening the season from seven weeks to five weeks of regionals and significantly increasing the number of winds only events.
In addition to the Indianapolis Winds Regional, WGI is holding winds only events in North Carolina, Middle Tennessee, and West Texas. It will be interesting to see if these events continue to draw 3-6 winds groups like they have when coupled with a percussion contest, or if they will draw the dozen or more that are typically draw to the Indianapolis Winds Regional.

I was at the Clayton, NC regional today, my first WGI experience of any kind actually, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Thanks to it being a fairly small show, between prelims and finals WGI provided some great learning opportunities for the students starting with a leadership seminar led by Wayne Dillon. After that everyone had a mass clinic with the spectacular judging panel of Richard Saucedo, Randy Greenwell and Bruce Jones. These kinds of things obviously aren't possible at large Winter shows with dozens of groups, but I applaud WGI for taking the opportunity to provide a great educational experience for the competing groups.
