Cavies handle their all male identity with a lot of tact and nuance, especially recently imo. I really enjoyed listening to their designers talk about their choices when making their 2017 and 2018 shows and it really showed that they cared about representing a broad spectrum of young men from different identities. I feel like a lot more people would take issue if they just brute armed this part of their corps identity or didn't incorporate it as well as they do, but they do it so well that it's really hard for anyone to take issue with it.

In 1990, Championships week was from Monday to Saturday, with Class A-60 Prelims Monday (23 corps; 3 still exist), Class A on Tuesday (19 corps, 1 still exists), Open Prelims Wednesday (22 corps; Mandarins, Acadamie Musicale, Marauders, Kiwanis Kavaliers advanced by virtue of placing in top 2 of Finals of Class A or Class A-60; of this show, 7 corps still exist, 1 is under suspension.) Thursday was Quarter Finals (25 corps; 12 still exist), Friday was Semifinals (17 corps), Saturday was Finals (12 corps).

In the year 2000, Division II had 14 corps in prelims, Division III had 32.  Of those 46, 7 still exist: Vanguard Cadets, Mandarins, Blue Stars, Jersey Surf, Spartans, Les Stentors, Raiders.

It occurs to me that, strictly speaking, I saw Cavs for the first time earlier that day at their rehearsal site at my high school. I had graduated by then but was working just down the street.

Also, watching Railmen's show again for the first time in years, I'm struck by the fact that two different corps played "I Can Cook Too" (from On the Town) in 1990. The other was Madison Scouts, who placed ninth in DCI Finals.

The last of the all girl drum corps were the Bandettes of Sault Sainte Marie, ON, and they made it all the way till at least 2001. Last remaining part of a once colorful and interesting world.

I'm not too familiar with anything out of the mainstream DCI history pre 2000 but are the railmen being mentioned the same entity as the soundsport corps or is the name just a coincidence?

Looks like the SoundSport group is the result of a merger between the Railmen alumni corps and a 2010s Railmen revival corps. I believe they would be considered a revival of the same entity.

At this point in 2018 -- the most recent year to see the top two corps from last night travel to the Midwest -- the most recent scores for corps heading to O.C. Championships, the number of days out from Finals, the score they got at O.C. Finals (or O.C. Prelims if they didn't make Finals), and the average improvement from their last score at this point to Finals (or Prelims), were as follows:

Scores are generally higher this year (more for some than for others). Make of that what you will. Are SCVC and BDB on track to crush 80 at Open Class Finals, with a huge gap to third? Will Gold be able to make up for lost time when they travel to the southeast later this week? Can Raiders improve as rapidly again and get a score in the 1970s? (Their highest score since Open Class switched in 2012 to using the same sheets as World Class is 69.10 in 2014.) And how will Legends fare this year? Their first performance isn't until Friday, and they looked pretty small in a rehearsal photo a few weeks ago. (Louisiana Stars also has yet to be scored, but they were on the schedule at two shows that either were rained out or were only exhibition; I'm not sure.)
