Going over the Indy Finals Recaps, I feel bad for the Plainfield kids. Not sure what happened, but it looks like their penalty knocked them from 1st to 4th. Didn't get to see any of the groups while pushing equipment, but got to talk with a few of the other group's parents and kids before warm ups. I've seen videos of some of the others and Franklin Central's uniforms make sense now that I've gotten to see their backgrounds. Real cool visual effect and they sounded good from behind stage today.
After watching the 3 world class groups AQ, Audio Theater and Equinox (defunct Palmetto) I’d rate them...
1.AQ 2.Audio 3. Equinox
AQ always puts out a super solid performance with great clarity and technique that screams finalist level (they haven’t been left out of finals recently for a good reason). The show doesn’t do much for me though but they are selling it.
Audio was a pleasant surprise. Again, didn’t really understand the show but it was cleaner than Equinox and I liked the soundscape and musical writing/ source music. Being from Nashville they do not at all have a mystique vibe - which I like.
There is nothing wrong with trying to mimic what works, but Equinox has many mystique qualities just not performed or designed at a high enough level. It’s a good show but it’s one we’ve seen so many times before. Some of the visuals are really neat but some are still dirty. Clarity of the front ensemble was weaker but their book was arguably the hardest of the three.
Although I didn’t like the designs too much, all flowed very seamlessly.
