Hi everyone! Just wanted to make a thread where we can rant, comment, react, predict or just give our input about the 2022 DCI finals! Have fun, and be nice to each group! They all work EXTREMELY hard to put on these incredible shows & so even if you may not like a certain corps, please refrain from being mean!
Thank you!

Nope. IMO, Devils win and Bluecoats medal….the shows were great this year! This is what I’m thinking! I think it’s interesting that there isn’t a single group that stands out to me as ‘the best’ this year- there are so many standout shows that I couldn’t pick just one that screams DCI 2022 to me. I think BD will win with BAC and Bluecoats fighting it out for second and Crown or possibly SCV in fourth. What a fun year! I’m so glad I made it out to see most of the finalists live when I was at Broken Arrow earlier this year.

Both shows are within my favorites of all time.

I loved Boston Crusaders show this year. I kind of wanted them to win with that show this year, but man the Blue Devils were so clean. I also loved seeing the pure joy on the faces of the Colts and Troopers after making finals after such a long absence.

This was my favorite DCI season since I began following the activity 8 years ago. Troopers had my heart and made me cry several times, Phantom was so good as well and I just love DM Geneva, Bluecoats were just so incredibly fun this year, Crown got me with that 2019 Leander Benedictus ballad, the Blue Devils were just so amazingly clean and precise, but the Boston Crusaders were my absolute favorite! The entire top 12 were phenomenal this year and I loved every minute!

I think this was a truly wonderful season. A few scattered thoughts: - Stoked for the Troopers. The inventors of touring drum corps belong in finals.
- Best Colts show in years. Wish the lanterns were brighter. What a great tuba soloist.
- If you didn't love the last 30 seconds of Phantom, you don't love drum corps. That's all.
- In the case of Cavies, Blue Stars, and the Vanguard, all three shows were enjoyable and grew on me over the course of the season, but seemed conceptually a bit dull. No hate on the kids, they were great, but the show design just lacked a 'wow' factor for me.
- Loved everything about the Cadets except the subtitle of the show. Just wasn't necessary to spell it out, we got it.
- I love Crown, but this show didn't quite hang together for me. Perhaps it was different live?
- Bluecoats was my favorite show all summer long. Perfect design. It's the one worth studying to learn how to be better at putting shows together, along with...
- ...BAC, who also put on a masterclass of design. Clarity of intent. Costuming the three elements of the ensemble distinctly made the story line so easy to follow, in marked contrast with...
- ... the Blue Devils, whose incredible performers took a poorly conceived program and elevated it through sheer excellence. They didn't win because of their design team, they won in spite of them.
All in all, a wonderful season back after COVID. I love drum corps.

. [/quote] I do heavily disagree with this, I think that while subtle Blue Devils show was masterfully designed and while it wasn’t as blatant and upfront it was still an amazing design

I've been insanely sick over the past week due to a tick bite and just moved into my dorm for university so, the marching arts haven't exactly been on my mind too much, but I did just get around to finally watching the top 20 corps.
I'm not sure if it's just me but it seems like every corps outside of BD and Bloo this year was visually insanely dirty compared to anything pre-pandemic. The visual design this year seemed top notch (especially compared to the mess that was 2019), but watching the top 6 corps kind of left me disappointed. BAC especially was a bit of a let down and I'm kind of surprised that they were able to edge Bloo out in VP since at basically any non-choreo sections of the show there was always at least 3 or so people with their feet out of time or doing their "psuedo roll step" technique in a different way from the rest of the corps. Cadets definitely had a top 3 show this year in terms of enjoyment but they definitely were not able to pull off that insane drill by the end of the season and BS taking 6th in vis definitely shows that. I'm a die hard Cavies fanboy but I could never get into that show visually, it was way too crowded and focused towards the front sidelines. I feel like if they widened the gaps in between marchers and made the spaces between them in the drill a bit bigger the show would've been cleaner and more enjoyable, since they wouldn't have been in your face the entire show and there would've been more wiggle room for the performers to mess up without it showing as much.
I'm not a perc guy so I can't comment too hard on how perc was this year but the hornlines this year were fantastic. I'm not surprised that Crown ended up not getting Ott but honestly if it were any other season they would've had it in the bag. BAC's and BD's hornlines this year were something special that absolutely blew anything that either corps has put out musically for a long time (or ever, in BAC's case).
If there is any last comment I could make it's that I'm surprised that there was any controversy at all regarding BD's 20th ring. I was insanely sick on finals night so I had to cancel my plans to attend live, but even just watching the recording betrays how insanely clean BD was compared to everyone this year. BD's show this year is more reminiscent of Metamorph than 2018 and 2019 by a long shot and their formula is definitely beginning to show how tired it is, but that doesn't change how pristine the performers were able to make their show come the end of the season.
Mandies are still cursed to get the same placement every season

Agreed on things feeling dirty this year. Nothing really impressed me outside the four top three this year, and even then I struggled a bit- I feel like it was a nice year overall, but there have absolutely been better years for drum corps and more impressive shows out of these medalists in past years. If I hadn’t known that there had just recently been no season for these groups, I wouldn’t have been impressed at all. That’s not to say it wasn’t still amazing, but I’m hopeful that the next few years blow this one out of the water.

I just saw this post for some reason. Often times this forum will show a category as “read” for me even when there are still threads I haven’t opened within it! Anyway, I hope you are feeling better and I am sorry to hear that you were so ill!
