Man oh man these were some crazy results! I really wish I could've made the drive up this year because this was definitely one to watch, even with all the cold and the rain! Argh, darn work. Anyways, with how big the finals bubble was this year, I'll take getting 11 of the 12 finalists right! And while I may have gotten a little less than half my predicted placements right, at least I wasn't super far off! I will agree that Choctaw being out of finals was insane. I really thought they were a lock after their class championship and sweep at BOA North Texas, but there was definitely a worthy replacement in Edmond North! Really excited for these recap sheets to come out so we can see where exactly they fared. And congrats to Edmond Santa Fe for hitting top 6! Their future is bright and they 100% need to do BOA next year. Also, I could very well be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure this is the highest Southmoore has placed at this contest since 2014 when they got 5th, so good for them! I really thought Yukon was gonna place higher, but 7-9 was a tough fight to get into, and for Southmoore to come out on top above Union is pretty incredible for them. Really excited to see where they go in the future. Also, welcome to OBA finals, Deer Creek! Really excited to have you guys around! And not only were they finalists, they were the class 6A2 champs! We've said it before, but this just all but confirms that 6A2 is going to be a bloodbath each year now that Bixby is 6A1. Also, I think BA definitely has a shot at repeating at GN this year. It'll be a hard fight between them and Avon for 1st, I think, but they just might be able to do it! And I think Mustang's chances of finals this year are solid, if not a lock. Visual is probably still hurting them, but they have two more weeks to iron out the final kinks before crunch time! I am also of the sentiment that Jenks should've gone to Nats this year. I am fully confident this would've been finals appearance #2 for them!
Well, that about sums up my thoughts for this one. Congrats to all the bands on a great season, and good luck to BA, Mustang, and Deer Creek at GN! This has been a wild season and I'm already excited for next year!

I really wish Jenks was attending nationals this year. Their last appearance was very memorable and this show gives me the same type of vibe. Anyone familiar with the program know if they plan to attend again in the future? Typically GN is every other year for Jenks. Covid and school travel policies prevented overnight travel the past two years. The current class of seniors have not been to GN which is a huge disappointment for the kids. I really think this is why they attended the Indy Super Regional instead of St Louis this year. The band has been invited to the 2024 Rose Bowl Parade. I’m not sure how that will impact their contest schedule. We should know the cost for Pasadena in a few weeks and I imagine this will drive what contests end up on the 2023 fall schedule. I am hoping GN is on the schedule but I think cost will play a huge role in the decision process. There is the possibility that another group of seniors won’t have had the opportunity to experience GN.

Interesting results all throughout the prelims recaps. Choctaw was first out as I expected, but not as close as I thought it would be. Edmond Memorial was 12th by just over a point and a half. And Deer Creek 5th in individual music but 9th in overall music? Finals was much more consistent across the board, though I feel like I'd have to disagree with Edmond Santa Fe being 9th in indy music.

Here's hoping that they do well at GN and start coming to more BOA events.

Yes, agreed, very nice scores especially for them being first time finalists (and comfortably making it in prelims, at that). Just one outlier that stood out to me among the rest.

Congrats on BA for winning their 20th OBA championship in a row!
While that in it of itself is a milestone, I'm thoroughly impressed with the caliber of bands in the state this year. For years, it's been BA then everyone else. And while this point spread this year is still wide, I'm seeing not one but several bands that could give BA a run for its money in the coming years.
Even if you're a hardcore BA fan, that's a good thing. Iron sharpens iron and the it's one of the reasons Avon and Carmel are top 3 contenders year after year. When you battle the best year after year, you can only get better.
Owasso is the only band besides Union and BA that have won OBA since its inception back in 1980 (back in 1998 i think?). And for awhile I thought Owasso would be the one threatening BA's reign in the coming years. Not after last night.
I truly think Jenks could have been a BOA finalist if they went this year. I remember it was barely 25 years ago Jenks was still a high-step marching band playing mostly Sousa. Now they're a BOA finals caliber band!
Mustang is definitely a contender for Indy especially after they clean their show these last two weeks. Amazing sound this year! IMO, Mustang is the looming threat to BA in years to come.
Owasso and Bixby are right there as well. It's an exciting time to be a band geek in Oklahoma!

Jenks will attend a BOA contest next year but it will not be a Super Regional or Grand Nationals because they are going to the Rose Parade. The plan is to return in 2024.
