It's a combination that has actually been done before. In 2014, The Colts show was entitled, "Dark Side of the Rainbow." The show was about what happened to Oz after Dorothy left and The Scarecrow was put in charge, and most of the show featured music from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Rainbow album, as well as Radiohead and Raymond Scott. It was a fan favorite show that summer, and was only a tenth out of finals behind Crossmen. And it was recently picked as the best Colts show of the 2010s in a little survey of drum corps fans.
BUT this show choice gives me pause. I thought it took all season for Colts' production --whose concept was immediately clear-- to finally work, and until that point, it was one of the most annoying shows ever, being heavily dependent on narration. For much of the summer, audience reaction was very divided. So I hope Beavercreek is relying instead on the long-discussed synchronicity to which Dan Balash linked and not seriously trying to tell a story.
I was pleased to find that Beavercreek's production, at least as presented at OSU (and on a video from Vanderbilt) included no narration at all, neither live (always preferable) nor prerecorded, but it did include some live singing in the preshow.

Broken Arrow H.S., OK — “Yee Haw!” I'm guessing this isn't a reboot of Western Brown's "Hootinany Holler" from several years ago.

Just pausing for a brief digression to say how astonishing it is that Beavercreek's 2014 show opened with "Jumpin' Jack Flash", closed with "You Can't Always Get What You Want", and featured "Sympathy for the Devil" in between (along with three other songs). It's like they had a time machine.
Carry on.

[Centerville H.S. - Rhapsodic] Rhapsody in Blue [Gershwin] Second Rhapsody (Gershwin) Bohemian Rhapsody [Mercury] Hungarian Rhapsody [Liszt?] Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini [Rachmaninoff] At least that’s what a little birdie told me... Coincidentally...
Grove City HS (Grove City, OH) - Rhapsody Musical selections include: "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" (Sergei Rachmaninoff) "A Somerset Rhapsody" (Gustav Holst) "Norfolk Rhapsodies" (Ralph Vaughn Williams) "Rhapsody in Blue" (George Gershwin)
Apparently their repertoire includes eight pieces (and "Freddie Mercury might even make an appearance") which would be unusual for them. In each of the past several season, they have played four tunes. I tend not to like shows with too many songs, which seem disjointed and jumpy to me; I hope they prove me wrong.
Maybe this is why I have it on my calendar not to miss Grove City. This sounds like a fun show!

I’m still interested as to where people got information for these shows that had absolutely nothing to do with the actual show, like when Harrison was “metamorphic” and tarpon was “the factory”
