West (El Paso, Midland, Amarillo, etc.): 1. Permian 2. J.M. Hanks 3. Pebble Hills 4. Midland 5. Frenship 6. Eastlake 7. Coronado (El Paso) 8. Legacy (Midland) 9. Parkland 10. Horizon 11. Bel Air 12. Lubbock-Cooper Next 3: Abilene, Monterey, Randall First of all, Pecos very surprisingly got a 2 at UIL and not for a penalty or ineligibility or anything like that. I am slightly biased, but I do think they still deserve to be ahead of or within the first outs considering their placement at Midland as they were well ahead of both Abilene and Randall. The 2 is not characteristic of them considering how surprising it was, and their show is a little more BOA-centric anyways. They still have a BOA San Antonio performance yet! I'm not gonna lie I forgot to change the next 3, Abilene also got a 2 today so they probably shouldn't be there either. I think I'm going to add in Canyon instead.

Updated Austin Rankings Again:
1. Cedar Ridge 2. Vandegrift 3. Vista Ridge 4. Cedar Park ------------------------- 5. Round Rock ------------------------- 6. Westlake 7. James Bowie 8. Hendrickson 9. Rouse ------------------------- 10. Moe and Gene Johnson 11. Westwood 12. Lake Travis 13. Leander ------------------------- 14. Dripping Springs 15. McNeil 16. Jack C. Hays 17. Liberty Hill 18. Tom Glenn 19. McCallum ------------------------- 20. Lake Belton 21. College Station 22. Weiss 23. Midway ------------------------- 24. Belton 25. San Marcos ------------------------- Next 5: Austin, Georgetown, Harker Heights, LASA, Pflugerville
Wild week with 5A Area! Most of the rankings at the top don't see much movement, but James Bowie did get credit for their strong performance at Orlando. Liberty Hill saw a big jump in the rankings thanks to their win over Tom Glenn at Area H, and Jack C. Hays's 2nd place finish at Area D also gave them a nice boost in the rankings. Biggest surprise of the week for me wasn't even from a contest yesterday, I learned a few days ago that San Marcos (a band that struggled to even get a 1 at UIL just a few years ago) won a contest earlier this season over some relatively strong bands like Smithson Valley (who finished 4th at Area D yesterday). Maybe I'll have more to share about this band later in a certain other thread on another subforum here...

Missouri Rankings 10/23
Blue Springs (Kansas City) ————————— Grain Valley (Kansas City) Kickapoo (Springfield) Blue Springs South (Kansas City) Camdenton (Lake of the Ozarks) ————————— Lindbergh (St. Louis) Nixa (Springfield) Timberland (St. Louis) Fort Zumwalt North (St. Louis) Hickman (Columbia) ————————— Washington (St. Louis) Francis Howell (St. Louis) Rock Bridge (Columbia) Ozark (Springfield) Oakville (St. Louis) Sullivan (St. Louis) Lee’s Summit (Kansas City) Logan-Rogersville (Springfield) Lee’s Summit North (Kansas City) Hollister (Springfield)
Comments: I’ve decided to expand the amount of bands I’m including a bit more, coming off arguably the most competitive season of Missouri bands yet. And it isn’t over! I’ve decided to keep Grain Valley out of the Blue Springs tier for now - the bands that they’re with, though, do deserve their own tier, and I think that most will agree with me on those four. This weekend was relatively uneventful for bands outside of the top two tiers, with Kickapoo moving up over Camdenton and Blue Springs South, and Ozark and Logan-Rogersville making appearances on the list. Grain Valley will make one more case to jump tiers in a few weeks at Grand Nationals, but I’m pretty solid on this ranking today.

I'll take a stab at Oklahoma rankings currently (10/23):
1. Broken Arrow --------------------- 2. Mustang 3. Jenks 4. Bixby --------------------- 5. Owasso 6. Edmond Santa Fe 7. Southmoore ---------------------- 8. Yukon 9. Choctaw 10. Union ------------------------ 11. Edmond Memorial 12. Deer Creek 13. Stillwater 14. Westmoore 15. Collinsville 16. Edmond North ---------------------- 17. Sapulpa 18. Coweta 19. Piedmont ---------------------- 20. Tahlequah 21. Carl Albert 22. McAlester
These are difficult, because it has been a bit since we have seen some of these groups. 5A OBA was very interesting yesterday, and 6A OBA will also be shocking I am sure. I tried to be as objective as possible here, going off scores and where I think things may match up contest to contest (with a few exceptions which seem to be the general consensus). I did post a very in-depth prediction on 6A OBA on the Oklahoma board, so go check that out if you want to see how my two lists differ. Biggest takeways here: I think Mustang, Jenks, and Bixby are pretty evenly matched. Despite Union's impressive finals appearance yesterday, I still would have them well below many of the other Oklahoma bands. The 6A OBA bubble group is pretty large this year, and I would throw Collinsville, our 5A champ, in with them. Sapulpa making a name for themselves ahead of Coweta and Piedmont. Good times!

Central (Austin, Waco, College Station, etc.):
1. Cedar Ridge 2. Vandegrift 3. Vista Ridge 4. Cedar Park 5. Round Rock 6. Westlake 7. James Bowie 8. Hendrickson 9. Rouse 10. Moe and Gene Johnson 11. Westwood 12. Lake Travis Next 3: Dripping Springs, Leander, McNeil
No big changes here outside of James Bowie moving up thanks to their strong performance at Orlando.
East (Houston, Longview, Texarkana, etc.): 1. The Woodlands 2. Cy-Fair 3. Bridgeland 4. Pearland 5. Stephen F. Austin 6. Cypress Woods 7. Seven Lakes 8. Klein Oak 9. Friendswood 10. Dickinson 11. Oak Ridge 12. Clear Brook Next 3: Brazoswood, College Park, Foster
Dickinson makes a big jump in the rankings after winning the Gulf Coast Classic this past weekend over Clear Brook and Brazoswood.
North (Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, etc.): 1. Hebron 2. Flower Mound 3. Marcus 4. Coppell 5. Wakeland 6. Keller 7. Waxahachie 8. L.D. Bell 9. Timber Creek 10. Wylie East 11. Prosper 12. Duncanville Next 3: Lebanon Trail, Lone Star, Rock Hill
Keller and Waxahachie impressed me a lot at Duncanville, they've come a long way since the BOA DFW Regional(s) so I moved them up a bit. Duncanville also pops in because their exhibition performance impressed me A TON. Way better than where this group was this time last year, should make state again and they'll be a fan favorite there.
South (San Antonio, Laredo, Brownsville, etc.): 1. Ronald Reagan 2. Claudia Taylor Johnson 3. Louis D. Brandeis 4. John B. Alexander 5. Roma 6. Sandra Day O'Connor 7. Winston Churchill 8. New Braunfels 9. Del Rio 10. Tom C. Clark 11. John Paul Stevens 12. Sharyland Next 3: Homer Hanna, Pioneer, William J. Brennan
Barely any movement here, but Pioneer gets credit thanks to tying with Sharyland at Area.
West (El Paso, Midland, Amarillo, etc.): 1. Permian 2. J.M. Hanks 3. Pebble Hills 4. Midland 5. Frenship 6. Eastlake 7. San Angelo Central 8. Parkland 8. Coronado (El Paso) 9. Legacy (Midland) 11. Horizon 12. Lubbock-Cooper Next 3: Del Valle, Lubbock, Randall
Parkland gets credit for their very strong 2nd place finish at Area A West, even taking a visual judge over Hanks. Next 3 sees some shakeups, most notably Lubbock after their 2nd place finish at Area A East.
Still won't have official small school rankings, but here's a bit of a forecast from 3A Area. Area A was won narrowly won by Clyde by a single ordinal over Crane. TLCA San Angelo got third in a tiebreaker with Bushland. Commerce had a fantastic day at Area B, taking 2nd to Whitesboro and flat out winning in prelims, so we can expect them to appear in the rankings when I do them next week. At Area C, Mineola nearly sweeps, losing a music judge to Redwater (Redwater's new director just moved there from Menard, who were the 1A State Champions last year). Atlanta and Winnsboro were close behind Redwater with Queen City in a distant 5th. At Area D, C.H. Yoe nearly swept, only dropping a single music judge to Clifton who was in 2nd. Elkhart had a strong showing, placing 4th overall above 2021 State Finalist Grandview. Finally in Area E, Hondo (who just dropped from 4A) nearly swept with Natalia taking a single Visual judge. That wraps up all of the major happenings at 3A Area!

For this week's regional rankings, I want to make note that while I did take the Area results into consideration, my doubts with the judging system means I don't take them into account as much as I would most contest results.
Central (Austin, Waco, College Station, etc.): 1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge 3. Cedar Ridge 4. Cedar Park 5. Round Rock 6. Westlake 7. Moe and Gene Johnson 8. Hendrickson 9. Rouse 10. James Bowie 11. Westwood 12. Leander Next 3: Dripping Springs, Lake Travis, McNeil
Biggest surprises this weekend include Dripping Springs making state over Westwood and Bowie and Vista Ridge winning Area H. James Bowie dropping and Vista Ridge moving up reflect these results. MG Johnson with the strong 2nd place finish at BOA Waco gives them a good boost in the rankings too.
East (Houston, Longview, Texarkana, etc.): 1. The Woodlands 2. Pearland 3. Cy-Fair 4. Bridgeland 5. Seven Lakes 6. Stephen F. Austin 7. Cypress Woods 8. Dawson 9. College Park 10. Klein Oak 11. Dickinson 12. Friendswood Next 3: Clear Brook, Oak Ridge, Tomball Memorial
Pearland gets a boost thanks to their domination at Area E (1st from all judges in prelims and finals except one 2nd place in prelims) and Seven Lakes moves up to be near the two Cy-Fair ISD schools at the top. Dawson and College Park make a return into the rankings with their strong 2nd place finishes in their respective areas. Tomball Memorial moves into the Next 3 after making State and beating Oak Ridge in the process.
North (Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, etc.): 1. Hebron 2. Flower Mound 3. Marcus 4. Coppell 5. Wakeland 6. Keller 7. Waxahachie 8. Timber Creek 9. Wylie 10. Prosper 11. Aledo 12. Wylie East Next 3: Lone Star, McKinney Boyd, McKinney North
Lots of shakeups here, most notably Wylie jumps all the way 9th with their incredibly strong finish at Area. Aledo and McKinney North move up with their outstanding performances at BOA Waco as well as Wylie East and McKinney Boyd after Area C.
South (San Antonio, Laredo, Brownsville, etc.): 1. Ronald Reagan 2. Claudia Taylor Johnson 3. Louis D. Brandeis 4. Sandra Day O'Connor 5. John B. Alexander 6. Roma 7. Winston Churchill 8. New Braunfels 9. Del Rio 10. John Paul Stevens 11. Tom C. Clark 12. William J. Brennan Next 3: Homer Hanna, Pioneer, Sharyland
O'Connor moves up above Alexander after taking State Alternate and Brennan move into the top 12 with their strong showing at Area as well.
West (El Paso, Midland, Amarillo, etc.): 1. Permian 2. J.M. Hanks 3. Midland 4. Frenship 5. Coronado (El Paso) 6. Pebble Hills 7. Eastlake 8. Parkland 9. Odessa 10. Horizon 11. San Angelo Central 12. Lubbock-Cooper Next 3: Del Valle, Eastwood, El Dorado
Coronado moves further on up and Odessa makes their debut in the rankings as well, not much movement outside of that other than the Next 3 being El Paso bands doing better than expected at Area A.
Small School: 1. Canton 2. Mineola 3. North Lamar 4. Anna 5. Celina 6. Whitesboro 7. Springtown 8. Redwater 9. Atlanta 10. China Spring 11. Calallen 12. Winnsboro Next 3: Burnet, Commerce, Davenport
Finally, the small school rankings return and they are quite different from before. Canton sits on top as probably the best "small" band in the state by quite a margin. Mineola, North Lamar, Anna, and Celina are in their own little neighborhood but still very good. Whitesboro remains near the top as they improved drastically by the end of the season and Commerce gets a spot in the next 3 after besting Whitesboro in prelims and still having a strong 2nd place finish in finals. Springtown, China Spring, and Burnet all get spots onto this list after 4A Area D. Redwater, Atlanta, and Winnsboro remain as some of the strongest 3As in the state as shown by their close finishes in 3A Area C finals. Then lastly, Calallen and the new Comal ISD school Davenport earn their places on the list after they take the top 2 spots in 4A Area E.

Tom Glenn 20. Copperas Cove ------------------------- 21. McCallum 22. Lake Belton 23. College Station 24. Liberal Arts and Science Academy 25. Georgetown Next 5: Austin, Belton, Hutto, Midway, San Marcos
Basically all of the movement is based on the BOA Waco and 6A Area results and are fairly straight forward. Vandegrift and Vista Ridge move up above Cedar Ridge after their strong Area performances. Leander moves up a couple places after their improvement seen at Waco, James Bowie move down a tier and Dripping Springs up because of their Area D results. Weiss jumps up many places after making finals at Area D and beating McNeil. Copperas Cove was just one ordinal out of finals at Area D so they make it all the way from not even being in the Next 5 into the Top 20. With McCallum, LASA, and Georgetown all within a point of each other at Waco, they are now in the top 25 in the same tier.

Great to see discussion about the Carolinas in this thread! There’s an interesting omission from your North Carolina Who would that be? The only change I would make would be to put T.L. Hanna in the 9 spot and move Boiling Springs and Mauldin down.

Final Michigan Rankings 1. Jenison 2. Rockford 3. Lake Orion 4. Walled Lake 5. Reeths-Puffer 6. DeWitt 7. Novi 8. Grandville 9. Byron Center 10. Plymouth-Canton :-o 11. Ferndale 12. L’anse Creuse 1-6 are all pretty close. Another great season! I think it is hard to compare scores from different flights, but overall pretty accurate. I would have loved to see Rockford and Jenison go head to head. I do agree that Jenison had the best show. I have been watching Jenison about every year since they first came to the state championships in 1989. While it is hard to compare visuals from what was being done in the early 1990s, this year is the strongest Jenison has ever been, yes stronger than 1992 and 1994 when they made Grand National finals. It is a testament to the level of competitiveness in this era that Jenison is not considered a finalist contender.

While they never directly competed with each other, aside from regionals, there were multiple competitions where they played very close to each other utilizing the same judging panel. Each time scores were VERY close

Second to last Austin Rankings of the season!
1. Vandegrift 2. Vista Ridge ------------------------------ 3. Round Rock 4. Cedar Ridge 5. Cedar Park ------------------------------ 6. Leander 7. Westlake 8. Moe and Gene Johnson 9. James Bowie 10. Rouse 11. Hendrickson ------------------------------ 12. Lake Travis 13. Dripping Springs 14. Westwood ------------------------------ 15. McNeil 16. Tom Glenn 17. Jack C. Hays 18. McCallum 19. Weiss ------------------------------ 20. Anderson 21. Liberty Hill 22. Copperas Cove 23. Lake Belton 24. College Station 25. Austin Next 5: Belton, Hutto, LASA, Midway, San Marcos
Most notable shakeup is Anderson, who had a great weekend at both BOA San Antonio and USBands Austin Finale with the latter having greater impact on the rankings. San Antonio prelims results are taken with a grain of salt and how I have them ordered is how I would've personally ranked them, not the judges.

Anyone have things for Florida Georgia Carolinas Colorado New Mexico Arizona California Arizona's tricky because some groups compete only in ABODA, others compete only in AZMBA, and competition is always divided by classes (though the classes in each circuit do not possess the same bands). And Catalina Foothills never does championships in either circuit, despite always being medal-worthy! Here's my best guess for this year... we'll find out more after AZMBA champs this Saturday and ABODA champs the following Saturday 1. Mountain Ridge 2. Corona del Sol 3. Desert Vista 4. Campo Verde 5. Catalina Foothills 6. Williams Field 7. Rincon University 8. Sandra Day O’Connor 9. Millennium 10. Mountain View (Mesa) 11. Highland 12. Casa Grande 13. Basha 14. Dobson Interestingly enough, 11 of these bands come from the Phoenix area: West Valley bands (north and/or west of Phoenix, in Glendale/Goodyear): - Mountain Ridge - Sandra Day O'Connor - Millennium East Valley bands (south and/or east of Phoenix, in Tempe/Mesa/Chandler/Gilbert/Ahwatukee): - Corona del Sol - Desert Vista - Campo Verde - Williams Field - Mountain View (Mesa) - Highland - Basha - Dobson Rincon University and Catalina Foothills are both in Tucson (about two hours south of PHX). Casa Grande is about halfway in between Phoenix and Tucson, technically closer to Phoenix but more similar culturally to southern Arizona bands.

If I still live out here next season and as my health continues to improve (it's all uphill from dead) I may just start tapping into the Arizona scene and give some thoughts. I live in the east valley outside of Phoenix.
