After thinking about the Carmel and Avon thing some more I think Carmel could win just on performance captions alone.
The show is just kinda dry though. In 2018 we had the big ship, 2021 the cool black boxes… this year the prop and use game is just kinda eh for me. The music design also pulling motifs from 2013, 16, 21. Good but not super original.
I don’t think Blue Springs will take any captions from these two but I think I’m in the minority on that

Any thoughts on this morning's bands so far? Beavercreek, Union?

I definitely did not think Union was bad. A different Union than we have seen in the past, but I still see them as a finals contender for sure!

I just turned on the livestream. Didn't mean to sleep so long. How was Kennesaw Mountain? In contention for finals?

just caught up on yesterdays performances.
There is no way Carmel is not sweeping this and sitting about 1 pt above Avon and Blue Springs. They are just too clean right now not to be. No doubt everyone will catch up by GN, but right now Carmel is clearly ahead performance wise. Carmel's show feels a little slow pacing wise, the whole time I was just waiting for it to kick into gear but it never happened. That said, I am absolutely blown away by the music performance. No one can produce such a full controlled balanced ensemble sound like Carmel, the way they arrange the mid and low voices to create so much warmth is heavenly.
Panel 1/Day1: Carmel Avon Fishers Castle Goshen
Panel 2/Day1: Brownsburg Homestead Jenks Westfield Franklin Central

Avon improved a ton since last week. Not really as sure about BS being above them at this point but it'd be a nice upset.

Mason is bringing it this morning! Their woodwinds are KILLING the runs! So clean and their sound is just beautiful! And their guard is much better than I've ever seen them.

I just turned on the livestream. Didn't mean to sleep so long. How was Kennesaw Mountain? In contention for finals? It was nice. I think it’s on the bubble…the energy wasn’t quite there, but I don’t blame them with such an early wakeup. It wasn’t bad at all. Very pretty

Mason has something special this year. That sounded great. Looked great from the high cam. I’m super impressed with that performance. Unfinished, yes. But what they do have on the field is so good.

I definitely did not think Union was bad. A different Union than we have seen in the past, but I still see them as a finals contender for sure! I wasn’t super happy with the brass sound, but they’re definitely playing nice and loud. The program certainly isn’t over! Certainly not the 10th place band they were earlier this month.

Hello and also good night everyone! I leave you with my day 1 final personal rankings. All for fun. Had a blast with so many groups. Excellent surprises. I'm sure tomorrow will be filled with even more! Updated Picks (Day 1): Panel 1: Carmel Avon Fishers Goshen Castle Panel 2: Brownsburg Jenks Homestead Westfield Franklin Central Last 4: Kickapoo* MPLT* Center Grove* Noblesville** Next 4: Greenwood** Jasper** Greenfield-Central* Hamilton SE** Why does everyone rank by panel? According to the BOA website…the top 14 band regardless of panel advance to finals.

I think Collierville just beat Union. But they're on different panels. Union may still get in if they're in the top 5 of panel 2. I'm thinking that all four of the others may come from panel 1 though.... Actually, after reading the comment above, I went to the website and found this: For Indianapolis and St. Louis Super Regionals, the top 14 scoring bands, regardless of class, will advance to Finals. For the San Antonio Super Regional, the five highest scoring bands in each of the two Prelims judging panels, regardless of class, plus the next four highest scoring bands from both of the two Prelims, regardless of class, will advance to Finals. So, it looks like the panels only matter in the San Antonio Regional now?? That's a change from last year, right?

St. Louis barely met that threshold this year, and Indianapolis has crushed that threshold with 80+ bands performing.

Was Blue Springs having electronic issues? Not that I could hear, but I did see multiple people running around the whole show in front looking very panicked. I hope it goes more smoothly tonight. Lovely show.

Win, second or third tonight—that Blue Springs show is going into the marching band tomes for a masterclass in individual visual performance and student buy-in. If you don’t get it by now, I can’t really help you.

For SRs with more than 64 bands, there are always two panels. Collierville and Union are in separate panels, but I highly doubt either will be top 5 in the panel, so they’re directly against each other for the Next 4.

Lovely show. The power isn’t working at the moment. Bands have to use generators. Hopefully it will be fixed soon…get ready for a stinky field for a bit 😷

Question again…..Indy Super Regional on the BOA website says that the top 14 regardless of panel advance to finals. I’m not trying to self promote by linking this…okay, maybe a little. But I’ve written in-depth about this and it might be helpful! generaleffectmedia.substack.com/p/super-who-the-boa-super-regional It’s confusing, but the tl;dr of it is that you want to be the top 5 in your panel. If you aren’t, you aren’t out of finals, but you’ll have to beat every band from the OTHER panel too. The panels are as balanced as possible, but it isn’t out of the question that the 5th place band in one panel may score lower than all of the Next 4 if they all come from the other panel.
