The power isn’t working at the moment. Bands have to use generators. Hopefully it will be fixed soon…get ready for a stinky field for a bit 😷 wait is the stadium power out? what’s happening could you explain more? Just the power that the bands hook into for their soundcart! It looks like it’s been fixed already.

For example Jenks drew 1 so if they’re bottom half of the finalists they’ll perform first, if they’re second half they’ll perform 8th. This just dictates final performance order. If a band doesn’t make finals then it just goes to the next band and then they’re assorted into their halves.

The top 14 bands are split into the top 7 and the bottom 7 and within each of those groups, the draw board determines order of performance.

So if Jenks is in finals and is in the bottom half scoring bands, they’ll perform first in finals, but if they score in the top 7 in prelims, they’ll perform 8th. The draw board order determines this order within the top 7 and bottom 7, which is random within those halves as decided by the draw.

But when a band director checks in and picks up their packet for prelims, they draw a number. Many directors come the day before they perform to pick up the packet, so it could be well before the band performs.

I'm sure tomorrow will be filled with even more! Updated Picks (Day 1): Panel 1: Carmel Avon Fishers Goshen Castle Panel 2: Brownsburg Jenks Homestead Westfield Franklin Central Last 4: Kickapoo* MPLT* Center Grove* Noblesville** Next 4: Greenwood** Jasper** Greenfield-Central* Hamilton SE** Can you help a newb out? I get what Panel 1 and 2 mean based on the performance schedule, but what are Last 4 and Next 4? Finalists are determined by the top 5 scores in each panel, plus the next 4 highest scores, regardless of panel (last 4). Then, the next 4 would represent the bands that just missed making finals.

Correct and thank you for clearing that up for them. I include who my 'next 4 out' are cause I see them as the next most likely bubble groups that could really make finals; though there have been some bands I've pushed out that I could still see make finals too there are so many great groups this year! I'll be giving an updated personal rankings once Panel 1 finishes today. Shoutout to ilikeguard to doing a great job of explaining all of this as well along with keeping up with field shots today!

So does anyone have a AA Band in finals? I expect Grain Valley will be, though the competition here has been pretty insane!

It might just be me but did Evansville North play one of the pieces that L.D. Bell played in 2007? They sounded somewhat similar. Pan’s Labyrinth!

Either way, if both the top A and AA bands fail to make finals, do both perform in exhibition after finals? Grain Valley is very solidly in AA. Although if Kansas City grows any more…they’re about 300 students away from AAA.

Lafayette was definitely impressive. I think with more refinement and cleaning, they could make GN Finals. Should be solidly in for Super Regional finals though.

Question again…..Indy Super Regional on the BOA website says that the top 14 regardless of panel advance to finals. I’m not trying to self promote by linking this…okay, maybe a little. But I’ve written in-depth about this and it might be helpful! generaleffectmedia.substack.com/p/super-who-the-boa-super-regional It’s confusing, but the tl;dr of it is that you want to be the top 5 in your panel. If you aren’t, you aren’t out of finals, but you’ll have to beat every band from the OTHER panel too. The panels are as balanced as possible, but it isn’t out of the question that the 5th place band in one panel may score lower than all of the Next 4 if they all come from the other panel. Honestly, this might be one of the dumbest things BOA has ever done, up there with the 2003 finals debacle of not announcing placements outside of the champion.

Anyone else distracted by tarps Lincoln-Way is using? From the high view on the livestream, it makes it very difficult to see the forms. Too much reflection and not enough contrast.
