Carmel is the answer to when someone says Band Size doesn't matter. I can’t tell if this is an insult or a compliment lol Why not both?

That was outstanding from Carmel. So extraordinarily clean but they sound sooo good. Love their dynamic changes when they go from frontfield to backfield. Really starting to enjoy this show a lot.

I love the music and I appreciate the complexity of the drill and design, but the individual props are just not enough for me. I love the huge one that rolls through the band (just like their winter guard show last year), but the ones that each guard member dances with are hard to see and don't stand out at all. Not sure how to fix it though....

Jenks was SO GOOD, and I think they had a very good run! Excited to see where they land. And holy Carmel! That sound is incredible. You know it's good when you hear it ring on a live stream. Excited for Avon!

You've got to appreciate when a band can both play and march at the same time! It seems to be a lost art. Most bands park and blow, especially when they're playing something complex, and then move when they're not playing.

I happy with all the kind comments and compliments for Lafayette. We hadn’t been to BOA in 3 years, but proved we belong. Happy to have melted some faces with our horns!

Weird to see Avon in Red. And to me, the demand that Avon has is light years ahead of Carmel. But what do I know.

At the beginning of the season, Avon had an accordion solo instead of a violin. I definitely think they made a good choice in changing it.

I think the visual complexities are higher for Carmel but not by much. Musically Avon let’s the woodwinds mostly carry all the heavy work and Carmel does no heavy lifting at all imo. Amazing guards OMG! But what do I know……

I can definitely see why Avon placed first and won GE. Their show is incredibly demanding both musically and visually, yet they still manage to execute it at a high level (albeit a few rough edges here and there). Harder show to perform than Carmel for sure, but is it better? Tough to say right now.

Idk what it is, maybe it’s the red, but Avon really channeling oddities vibes. Especially the ending it’s so similar

Maybe I need to see them again.

I would have Avon above, it’s weird because what Carmel does is very exposed musically due to how they push and push and push their musical phrases, and sometimes the group isn’t 100% clean, and in sync, from what I hear on stream anyways and it’s easier to catch someone not fully bought in. It’s hard but what they’re playing probably isn’t as demanding as what Avon’s doing even though one might say you can actually execute what Avon’s doing easier than what Carmel attempts, musically anyway. And yet, Avon does feel more put together and cohesive than Carmel to me at this point, both groups have time to clean before Grand Nats. I’m putting Avon above Carmel tonight. Who knows in a few weeks haha

Lincoln-Way has some of the best consistent visual design in the country. Right up there with Flower Mound for me. The music, though…It’s coming, but it isn’t there yet. I do think we’re looking at a future GN staple. more of a credit the many bubble groups there than a slight against them, not sure if you did mean a FINALS staple, but that’s a tough nut to crack! Also they might just be a new, recently school opened that I didn’t know was the case. If so, oopsies! LW has a long history of achievement as one high school, but in 2016 or so they combined three high schools into one band. It was done for financial reasons but leaves them open to criticism by educators, like myself, who find it unethical purely from a competitive (not performance) standpoint. Lincoln-Way East and Lincoln-Way North enjoyed some success in BOA Regional competition prior to that point. Lincoln-Way Community snuck into semifinals one year back in a stacked 1998 field (placing 19th or 18th). I believe that Lincoln-Way West may have won a regional class title at some point in the past. The original LW Community High School would have easily made BOA Grand National Finals though, in my opinion, had they attended in 1996 with their Missa Brevis production or 1999, when anyone could have sleepwalked in and taken Reeths-Puffer's spot. In all seriousness, they would have easily made finals that year as well. Bad timing, Rose Bowl Parades, etc. But they were legit on some of BOA's down years in the late 90s (lower end of finals/upper semifinals bubble) and not as competitive when more robust competition was present. I can never say that they will never make GN Finals. That would be silly to do. They are a part of several semifinalist bands who perform in the same neighborhood (scoring-wise) of each other. Based on how they finished last year, which culminated in a extremely narrow win (virtual tie) over Marian Catholic and Morton in October, they would have likely ended up in the 20s placement-wise or closer to 30. But did you see semifinals last year? It was stacked top to bottom, sans automatic qualifiers. They get a lot of hype on forums, but there hasn't been that breakthrough show or moment, like Blue Springs or Avon had back in the day. They have enough numbers though to be a player for a while though in regional finals and semifinals.

Avon was marvelous! I can't wait to see that one at Grand Nats. I think it is super interesting how both Carmel and Avon have very minimal props this year. Just a little touch to accentuate certain components. For what it's worth, I like what Avon does with the fabric a lot. William Mason is also incredible! I really really love this show. It is very beautiful. The entire aesthetic is just so pleasing to me. Can't wait to see the whole show. Could they sneak in a medal at Grand Nats?
