Moving from the original thread to this thread.
Going to try my hand at perhaps somewhat controversial predictions, all the way down to the top 50. I have seen most of these shows at this point. Doesn't mean anything though. Always excited to see how wrong I am!
These are honestly pretty rough predictions past 20th place. The semis pool is just so deep. In my opinion, around 60 bands with semi-finalist potential.
1. Carmel H.S., IN 2. Avon H.S., IN 3. Broken Arrow H.S., OK 4. William Mason H.S., OH 5. Tarpon Springs H.S., FL 6. Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 7. Fishers H.S., IN 8. Brownsburg H.S., IN 9. M.G. Johnson H.S., TX 10. Prosper H.S., TX 11. Castle H.S., IN 12. American Fork H.S., UT ----- 13. Lincoln-Way H.S., IL 14. Rosemount H.S., MN 15. O'Fallon Township H.S., IL 16. Hendrickson H.S., TX 17. Mustang H.S., OK 18. James F. Byrnes H.S., SC 19. Goshen H.S., IN 20. Southlake Carroll H.S., TX 21. Grain Valley H.S., MO 22. Centerville H.S., OH 23. Homestead H.S., IN 24. Stoneman Douglas H.S., FL 25. Kiski Area H.S., PA 26. Catawba Ridge H.S., SC 27. Jenison H.S., MI 28. Cleveland H.S., NC 29. Center Grove H.S., IN 30. Lakota East H.S., OH ----- 31. Morton H.S., IL (Class AA-2 Panel 1) 32. Lakota West H.S., OH 33. Windermere H.S., FL 34. Bassett H.S., VA 35. Bourbon County H.S., KY (Class A-1 Panel 1) 36. Legacy H.S., CO 37. Green Level H.S., NC 38. Marian Catholic H.S., IL 39. Murray H.S., KY (Class A-1 Panel 2) 40. Lake Hamilton H.S., AR 41. Hardin Valley Academy, TN 42. North Hardin H.S., KY 43. Campbell County H.S., KY 44. Anderson County H.S., KY 45. Ravenwood H.S., TN 46. DeSoto Central H.S., MS 47. Miamisburg H.S., OH 48. Panther Creek H.S., NC 49. Reeths-Puffer H.S., MI 50. Beechwood H.S., KY (Class A-2 Panel 2) ----- (?). Archbishop Alter (Class A-2 Panel 1)
Notable bands that did not make this list of predictions that could still very well place in the top half of the competition are Archbishop Alter, Ardrey Kell, Columbus Schools, DeWitt, Forest Hills Schools, Greendale, Greenfield-Central, Lawrence Township, Milford, Norton, Plymouth-Canton and Worthington Kilbourne.

I am no Ohio expert, but I would be surprised to see Lakota East above West. I know the 15th band at St. Louis wasn't a great look, but they pulled it out in 2019 I think they can again.

I believe Lakota West is going to be AAA for Grand Nationals this year They are well over enrollment for AAAA. Unless something crazy has happened this year At the Obetz Regional, Lakota West was announced as AAAA. At the St. Louis Super, they were AAA. Enrollment numbers for grades 10-12 are right on the border and the certification submitted after the school year started has them at AAA. When an enrollment is close to the potentially dropping a band down in class, MFA contacts them and suggests that they recheck the number that was submitted. This is what happened with Lakota West this year.

Don’t forget that classification is based on enrollment 10-12 rather than 9-12. East and West are 10-12 schools with a combined freshman campus East and West are both 10 to 12 high schools and each has their own freshman campuses. That's likely changing soon with plans to build new high schools for all 4 grades. Both bands did a combined sendoff show on Wednesday. It will be very interesting to see how they place. While the show styles are very different, the performance level is very competitive with each other. West has cleaned a lot from Saint Louis. It looks like a different show. They did announce last night that the two bands will be travelling together next year to Hawaii for a combined performance. a sign of things to come? Stay tuned!

After not being able to catch really any events this season, and relying on YouTube to catch up during the week, I've finally got time to watch GN, and I've cleared my schedule to watch all 3 days, something I haven't done since I last attended in 2018, although just watching at home on Box 5 this year. The sun is barely coming up over our neighbor's house in CO. I've got my set up all organized! No Bloody Marys yet though; I gotta pace myself over these long three days. I'm incredibly pumped!! But we'll see how I'm feeling after the 12th or so Ohio band that won't crack a 65 : ) bring on three days of marching band!

How about that 3rd block. Two of my sentimental favorites with DB in the middle. Then Mason's beautiful show. Then American Fork. Forth block also excellent! 5:15 - Homestead H.S., IN 5:30 - Dobyns-Bennett H.S., TN 5:45 - Castle H.S., IN 6:00 - William Mason H.S., OH 6:15 - Clinton-Massie H.S., OH 6:30 - American Fork H.S., UT

Bourbon County was excellent!! They are an exceptionally well-trained band with amazing consistency at the individual level. I think what really stands out is their show design - tons & tons of musical & visual variety, constantly demonstrating shifts in style but maintaining proficiency throughout. I imagine both music & visual GE scores will reflect how well they handled that variety. An incredible group to start the day! Other than some minor timing blips in the Orawa opener, I see no reason they can't put up a solid number and make a push for top 30 on score.

John Hardin only has 2 seniors and over half the band is freshmen and middle schoolers. Info straight from head director. They were a solid group! Their work in WGI Winds work is super apparent; no conductor, confident performers, excellent ability to hold tempo among the group. They were a pleasant surprise. On an interesting note, Tipton does the Indiana State Fair circuit in the summer. I had to double check to make sure, but their last show was August 20th, which was a non-competitive showcase after their season had ended August 5th at the Indiana State Fair. What an unusual choice to extend the season over three months beyond their last competition to BOA GN. Wonder what the genesis behind that was.
