Does this mean DB scored in the top 6 since they are performing in the later half? If so, I am surprised. Their Semi's run wasn't the best musically or visually, so I was worried they were gonna drop a couple of places. Yep! They’re in 6th They’re in the top 6 somewhere just like the other bands in the final 6. We don’t know the order. That’s what makes it fun. 😃

Who do y'all think is going to win the Esprit de Corps award? And on that note, who's going to accept the 2024 Tournament of Roses Parade invitation? William Mason for Rose's Parade

This is Mason's first time ever beating Avon or Broken Arrow head-to-head. To say "proud alum" is an understatement. I’m ecstatic. I was screaming driving home when they won GE. i also thought people were underrating this group in general before GN went underway, it is definitely interesting to see what they can do in finals

Four new Finalists - is that a record? 2018 had Jenks, O'Fallon, & Prosper, and I think I remember that being the record at the time... I have a big dumb spreadsheet. I can get you that answer tomorrow.

Sheesh. Crazy! Hendrickson misses Finals at the SA Super and places 25th, but makes GN Finals a week later. Southlake Carroll missed Finals at the Bedford Regional, places 13th, but makes GN Finals Prosper more than likely would've placed somewhere near the 25-35 range at San Antonio M&G Johnson, performing after Avon and Broken Arrow was no easy feat. Surely their score had something to do with that. The field in Texas is deeeep I saw Hendrickson in San Antonio and they were incredible. Keep in mind that many of the top Hornrank bands are local (all of the Austin/Cedar Park bands included). I was surprised to see them place 25th until I realized what they were up against (Vandy, Ronald Regan, CTJ, all of the Austin/Leander/Cedar Park bands). several DFW bands in the bubble as well, the Keller schools, LD Bell, and Waxahachie above them. I believe Prosper would’ve been right there in the 15-25 range, not the 25-35 range

I’m a big Castle fan ever since 2016, and I am so happy to see them in finals again❤️.
On another note, I would like a discussion on how you can compare a show like Tarpon’s to Carmel in a GE level. They are both so different, yet astonishingly well designed in different ways. Is that the part of the activity that is truly up to judges preference and/luck?

I think going to San Antonio actually helped Hendrickson more than one may realize. It helps training in a dome

Y’all I’m 24 and my heart is still pounding from these results. I’m getting too old for all the anxiety from these awards ceremonies 😂

For those of you non-Hoosiers, let me tell you a little story. The year was 2016. The date was late October. The place was Ben Davis HS. Yep, it was ISSMA Class A semi-state day. Fishers HS, in only the 10th year of the school's existence, having never made ISSMA State Finals finally had a show worthy of making it. They were the final band to perform that day and state finalists were announced in performance order. After the ninth state finalist was announced, there remained three possible bands .... Penn, Goshen & Fishers. Penn & Goshen had both been state finalists many times, so it truly was a toss up. There exists video proof that there was a full 30 second delay before the announcer said "Fishers!"
Today sorta reminded me of that moment. And I screamed almost as loud! Why did they have to wait until the final band to call our name? So proud of the growth I have witnessed in this program over the past 8 years. Although I no longer have a student in the program, I'll always be a fan!

The end of an era? Marian Catholic is a legendary program, many hold the opinion that it is the greatest band program of all time, I would agree. Talking to people who were in and around the program when they were winning grand national championships, they don’t feel the program has ended or fell off. Competition for them was just a teaching tool to enhance personal development and performance. They feel that results of competitions are great and all but if you performed again the next night after a competition the results could be completely different so don’t get too concerned about scores or placements. From what understand Greg Bimm still teaches the same values to this day, work hard and just perform the best you can as an individual and as a group. It’s strange after 7 gn titles and 34 finals appearances not seeing them but those things were never the goal. Eddie, years ago when I visited their campus as a guest of Michael Madonia, a local director, I was blown away by how they run things & the student-first, art-first mindset. But make no mistake, nothing I saw this weekend, last year, or any other year since they last made Grand National Finals has changed this view. It's a shame that they did not advance this weekend, because we all like seeing Marian, especially to get a second or third read on their deeper shows, but I just can't help but be so proud of all that they have accomplished as a program representing my state. Their record of 12 combined BOA National Championships (7 GN, 5 Summer) may never be broken. Their finals streak looks like it could be broken.. around the year 2029 or 2030, lol. Carmel *MAY* end up matching/surpassing the GN Title record (or someone else). They're still winning their class at Illinois State, a feat that they have accomplished since the waning days of the Jimmy Carter Administration. You know what? I love what they bring to the field every year & I wish them nothing but the best of luck in developing those kids. I am a big Marian cheerleader, but it was an honor to watch them all of these years as well as on Friday afternoon this weekend. All of the Illinois groups impressed me this weekend, especially Morton. -Fellow Illinois Director

Which 2010s DCI finalist drum corps show also incorporated that sample of Eminem? Spirit of Atlanta 2012, "Sin City." However, looking back, I remember that it wasn't a sample but a cover of that line.
