The entire CompetitionSuite system is down so we may not see scores as quickly after today's shows as was the norm last year. They were back up when this show started. All is well.

Not a sure thing yet, but this show may be going to a 12-minute schedule for finals in case weather becomes an issue.

Remainder of show has been cancelled. Nail in the coffin for this show. Very sad. I spoke to 7 of the 10 directors after the decision was made and all were still in a good mood. The lightning in the area has continued and is only getting more extensive. The right call was made.

Yes this is regional win number two. This comes 22 years after their first title and ties Clovis CA and Lafayette KY for largest gap between regional wins. Prospect's first title was at a pretty competitive regional. I think the main reason they dont have more titles is because they have historically attended more competitive regionals and back in the 80s, 90s and 2000s there were fewer BOA regionals being held.

Congrats Prospect! I remember, back in the day, they were always towards the top when they came to Toledo. Hard to believe none of those were wins.

Good showing from Plainfield North! Wisconsin bands pulling up the rear, as expected. Glad to see Grand Rapids still doing well, they're one of the most northerly bands to compete in BOA (about two hours north of Minneapolis/St. Paul).

Made even worse coming from an alleged current/past band director.

I don't need your validation, but the trolling accusations are a bit heavy-handed and bold. Maybe your time could be better spent investigating rather than openly disparaging someone that you do not know. I stand by my comment. Celebrate at the end of the season and work through the challenges to get to the very best versions of your ensemble. If that makes me a troll in your eyes, then perhaps you haven't had the pleasure of teaming up with thousands of students to both love music and aspire for far more than an early season score. There's plenty of unfinished business for every group right about now. There's nothing to celebrate, unless we've lowered the standards as far as you seem to be suggesting that we should.

Maybe you read something the rest of us didn't but I don't think anyone here made a point that suggested "lowering standards". No one here said the bands were perfect either. What people said was that there was a good showing which is in fact true. Band kids took the field and did what they love on september 16th 2023. Is there cleaning to be done? Yes, you just said yourself that "there is plenty of unfinished business for every group right now", but that doesn't mean students, staff, and spectators can't celebrate where groups are at this point in the season. This is my final response to this since it seems your post is attempting to manifest an argument. I hope that as a teacher, you can grow from that close-minded perspective that unless a group has its very best showing of the season (in terms of numbers), praise and celebration shouldn't exist. If those were the best runs of their season thus far, they should be proud regardless of numbers.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Jackie Gilley during the hour-long drive to the airport yesterday (softening the blow that it was at 4:30 a.m. and rainy).
As a judge, she was disappointed that finals were cancelled. She said that the one band who was able to perform before weather intervened was much better in their second run than during prelims.
This early in the season, every run matters and the feedback from the judges helps immensely.

Maybe your time could be better spent investigating rather than openly disparaging someone that you do not know. Hmmm. You are more than comfortable disparaging children in high school band but you are offended when you think I’m calling you out on acting like a troll. Not offended whatsoever. You are entitled to your opinion and I replied in-kind. Please consider being more inclusive of others' opinions, especially on a forum like this one. You do not appear to be a music educator but no music educator has full reign over what others consider important or less important, especially as it relates to early season scoring. You think showing up to an event = success. I don't think that even begins to describe what most directors are trying to attain within our programs. You have the absolute right to call me whatever you want, but I do not agree with your apparent acceptance of the minimum performance standards (showing up to a contest) equaling success and celebration. There's a long way to go and I think most directors would rather celebrate their accomplishments later than right now. Scores in the mid-60s or low 70s aren't a cause for celebration, in my opinion. It's time to take the feedback and improve your individual program as more of the learning takes place (staff and students). You don't have to agree with that, but that doesn't mean that I agree with your take. It was wonderful hearing from you though and I wish you and your team the best moving forward.
