Didn’t realize this competition was just a fight for 5th. I knew there would be a gap between Campbell and the next group since their run wasn’t the best but 5 points?!

Woa! Now THATS a dice up in the top two! First it was Jenison with Music and Visual, then it was Centerville with GE, and then Jenison pulled through for the .55 difference win! Amazing job to all the finalist bands, and congratulations to Jenison on their regional victory!

Less than a point separating the top 4? Dang! Every race this year seems to have shifted into pods and is an absolute brawl on who comes out on top. I both love it and hate it. As Willy Wonka put it, the suspense is terrible! I hope it'll last LOL
I am very glad that CNS was able to jump the gap too and thus vindicating my prelims rankings of getting 5 of the top 6 half correct then too! :-P

Just got back home after attending these Prelims and then an OMEA evening show. I agree with the judges about ten of these twelve finalists. Some general advice about the Glass Bowl: don't sit too high up. Way too much noise leaks in from the concessions below. Some more advice: hit those concessions as soon as you can, or you'll never have time to get any food. The line was so long that I walked to and from a fast food joint off campus. I would have still been in line and missed some bands had I not done that. Some general advice to parents: if you're going to livestream your kid's show to the rest of your family, then (1) don't provide a running commentary throughout the show telling your viewers where little Jenny is located on the field and (2) turn off the incoming sound so we all don't hear your mother and your sister commenting on the show. And by the way, this was a parent from one of the best bands there. It was very nice chatting with hewhowaits again!

Before this morning's Prelims, the last (and only) time I saw the Centerville Jazz Band in person was at a football game in 1991 or 1992

Heck yeah man, what a great regional. Congrats to all participating bands!
my thoughts: -Cicero-North Syracuse was an awesome addition to the lineup and I enjoyed their show! Hope they come back to this regional every now and then. -Rockford has an incredible full ensemble sound. If they can figure out how to use their full dynamic palette and explore more soft volumes and unique textures, they’re going to be totally fine. -Campbell County sounded great represented well -Norwin was great visually, possibly the best tonight, but just felt a step behind the rest of the top 4 musically -Jenison. JENISON. Class AA is lucky this band isn’t going to GN this year because they would be performing in Exhibition on Saturday night if they were. They’re gonna come out swinging in 2024. But until then, off to NY for the Thanksgiving Day Parade! -Centerville never disappoints. Still have never watched them put on a bad show. -Lake Orion’s show will polish up nicely, just a bit loose right now -I’m a bit of a Michigan homer, but I’m really excited about how MI has been representing itself in BOA recently. Hoping they can continue the momentum into the future.

Huge congratulations to Jenison on their back to back regional wins. I am so glad the Jenison resurgence from a few years ago still has momentum and is showing no signs of slowing down. Us Michiganders are enjoying the ride.

I’m sure this has been asked a million times, but, does Box 5 offer a subscription option that allows you to watch previous shows? Couldn’t find anything aside from the livestreams or the Pro Pass (No DVR).

Several years ago, trying to get licensing agreements ended the option of watching previous shows and left us with only the live stream feed.

Great showing by the Michigan bands at this regional, in addition to Jenison. Had Walled Lake attended, I have no doubt they would have been in the top half of finalist groups. Walled Lake has really found its footing since the merger between two of its three marching bands. If they avoid peaking too early, they are going to be formidable challengers to Rockford for the Flight 1 state title.
Some historical points about this regional. The first BOA Toledo regional was held in 1979, won by my alma matter Flushing, the first Michigan band to win a regional title. Norwin was a finalist at that regional. Impressive that they are still competing at this high a level in BOA 44 years later. In 1980, Chesterton edged out Flushing for the regional title at Toledo. That marked the first time an Indiana band won a regional title. In 1981, the top three bands at the Toledo regional, Chesterton, Norwin and Flushing went on to finish in the top three at Grand Nationals later in the season. In 1987, Centerville edged out Norwin for the regional title, marking the first time an Ohio band won a regional. In 1990, the Toledo regional was held late season (early November), latest in the season it has ever been held. Luckily it was an unusually mild November day. After finishing 2nd in Prelims, Plymouth wowed the crowd in Finals and swept the highest achievement awards. It marked their first regional title. The following week they went on to win the Grand National title. In 1992, none of the big name Midwest bands outside of Michigan attended. So the competition was dominated by all the top level Michigan bands of the day. Plymouth won their second regional title. Jenison made their first appearance at a BOA regional. They ended up in third just behind Lakeland. Jenison would however finish ahead of Lakeland at Grand Nationals later that season and make their first of two GN finals appearances.
As you can see, the Glass Bowl holds a lot of nostalgia for me as a long time BOA fan and history buff. I also got to perform in that stadium at two regionals and accept the Class AA trophy twice on behalf of my band in that stadium, great memories. It is nice to see my former competitor have such wonderful moments in that stadium too. It has been a special stadium for the top level Michigan bands during their respective 'glory years'.

Great showing by the Michigan bands at this regional, in addition to Jenison. I suspect that because Saturday was a big Jewish holiday and there is a large Jewish community in the Walled Lake School District, Walled Lake did not have a Saturday competition. Walled Lake Central had their Homecoming on Saturday and Walled Lake Western had their Homecoming on Sept 23 so that's they did compete those days.

Many years ago both WLC and West Bloomfield skipped a BOA regional because of the Jewish holiday. That was my speculation this time, but I should have checked the schedules. On a side note, over 30 years removed from high school, I barely remember the Homecomings, but I still vividly remember the BOA Toledo regionals. Just saying.

Wow! Norwin is just always consistent every freaking year just amazing formations; their ensemble sounds just strong and cohesive; Color guard just killing it; All attacks were hit; I say this was a home run . I wish you could've seen their show with all the props - they really set the scene! The weather was just not cooperative in making that happen.
