The Harrison/Owasso/Stoneman matchup is so random and so intriguing to me I can’t wait for them to face each other

Little tidbit:
Apparently, this will be Sebastian River’s last season as a competitive marching ensemble, as their new head director will very likely be transitioning the program to more of a “show band” style ensemble in 2024 and beyond. While I’m not sure how the majority of the kids and parents feel about this, if you’re gonna be at the Orlando show bright and early, be sure to give them a little extra love from the stands!

Quite surprised to see Cleveland in only 4 competitions and none with the top Cary bands. Three small competitions and this one.

It's unfortunate with all the football teams they have in Florida they don't have a single closed stadium so they could call it a Super Regional. I'm pretty sure the Dolphins stadium & Citrus Bowl both had complete renovations just a few years ago too There used to be a regional at Tropicana Field, home of the Rays. If memory serves me correctly, Florida used to (still does?) host their marching band state championships here as well. Reading back through this thread and the last time FMBC was at the Trop was 2018. Been a few different places since then, and will be back in the area this year, but at a local High School. I love the Trop more than most but it's an awful venue for a competition, especially with the ever present echo that's worse than any other dome i’ve been in. Don't recommend.

Few thoughts!
Timber Creek - Although the audio is terrible to really get a good grasp on everything from the vid I saw, I think they have an incredible show this year. High brass is a little muddy in some parts but that's something that'll be kinked out by this regional. They have a good amount of their show fielded. Show design isn't lacking at all. Guard is tossing high and making it look effortless which is always fun to see. Percussion has a beautiful sound that compliments the winds very well. Soloists are sounding clean and confident. So I'm very excited to see how well they do and if they can nab a medal in this! Byrnes is Byrnes though so can only wait to see how the season develops for both!
University - My thoughts on them are dated a few weeks (haven't had time to dig for a more recent video), but the audio was at least good enough. Fun show! A story to be told that can be easily followed and understood. I can see why they're a bubble band, so hopefully their growth has been consistent for them to walk confidently onto the field in prelims to make a statement. I'm sure it'll be tight in that bubble, but it'll be a delight to see them and we'll see if they get that 2nd run.
I've seen a few other videos from some of the other top Florida contenders back in July so I think that's too far back to really say much on them currently, but I am excited to see how far they've come when FMBC starts up. (Hoping to see some YT uploads appear)
Wish Broken Arrow had more fielded to enjoy watching more of them early season, but it's going to be fun seeing them out here again. Incredible as always. Glad they're bringing a more Broken Arrowed style show this year than they did in 2019! Would love to see a back and forth with Tarpon between captions.
Unless there's another video of them out there, Owasso looks great visually. Also going to have to wake up early for Belleville East (I'm not an early morning person lol). It's always entertaining seeing the outsiders this regional brings in.
When I have more time, I'll dig for some other schools I haven't been able to see yet.

I’m not particularly wild about either their sheets or FMBC’s, but they both have fairly different ideas about what the weighting should be. Also makes it much harder for an apples to apples comparison.

Wanted to gauge everyone's opinions on Alter entering this contest. I think they have lots of promise! I think they’ll win Class A, but beyond that, it’s so hard to say right now. How have they been doing at local competitions since Obetz? Not that OMEA/MSBA is always a good barometer for how a band is doing… but I digress.

But it's nice to see scores together instead of clicking around. I do think we are going to see some surprises here though

How have they been doing at local competitions since Obetz? Not that OMEA/MSBA is always a good barometer for how a band is doing… but I digress. At MSBA Mason they scored a 70.9 sweeping all of Class A and AA. They came in 4th overall. 1) Estill County HS: 74.400 2) Archbishop Carroll HS: 74.300 3) Finneytown HS: 71.950 4) Archbishop Alter HS: 70.900 MSBA Judging can be......... subpar. I think these scores will be corrected at BOA... in Alter's favor.

I'll try my hand at some predictions! I'm not as familiar with Florida bands outside of Tarpon Springs, so this will likely more of a crapshoot lol.

Park Vista recent scoring has me rather worried they could miss finals. The Owasso, Byrnes, Timber Creek, Stoneman Douglas, Harrison matchup has me pretty perplexed. If I was betting I’d be surprised if Owasso fell further than 4th, but otherwise I have no idea.

Final predictions!
Extremely confident about the top 9 (just the bands, not necessarily the order), it’s the bottom 3 I’m not so sure about. Bands like Belleville East, William R. Boone, Cypress Creek and West Harrison could find themselves in finals — or on the off-chance, Sebastian River or Tocoi Creek, the latter of which seems to be having a great season so far. However, most of those groups will have an early performance time to contend with.
Best of skill to all groups!
1. Tarpon Springs H.S., FL 2. Broken Arrow H.S., OK 3. Timber Creek H.S., FL 4. Owasso H.S., OK 5. Stoneman Douglas H.S., FL 6. Harrison H.S., GA 7. James F. Byrnes H.S., SC 8. Cleveland H.S., NC 9. Seminole H.S., FL 10. University H.S., FL 11. Jupiter Community H.S., FL 12. Oakleaf H.S., FL
A 1. Archbishop Alter H.S., OH 2. PK Yonge H.S., FL 3. Newberry H.S., FL
AA 1. Tarpon Springs H.S., FL 2. Seminole H.S., FL 3. West Harrison H.S., MS
AAA 1. Harrison H.S., GA 2. Cleveland H.S., NC 3. University H.S., FL

Bands like Belleville East I was toying with putting BEast in, but the 8th place in prelims and 14th place finish in finals at Fort Zumwalt North this past weekend may lead me to rethink that.

The first thing I tend to for any data analysis on scoring is converting the weighting to BOA-style just so there’s a common point of reference. Obviously not a foolproof system, as when I did that for the Center Grove comp this weekend, that weighting put Avon over Carmel, and when I did it for Gaither, it gave Tarpon a 92.9, but hey, what can ya do.

Also my hot take for this weekend is that the band that wins prelims will not be the one that wins finals. Tarpon looks insane this year and BA is BA so.

I don't see them placing higher than Owasso.
