Hello, everyone! I’d like to introduce myself and our organization. I’m Aaron Morton, creative director of Zephyrus Arts Institute. In addition to starting and running other arts education programs, we are in our second year of developing a drum corps for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Our SoundSport team is a part of a summer camp called the Zephyrus Marching Academy for band/guard students ranging from high school to college age. Our goal in this stage is to provide our students with an amazing, safe experience that goes beyond what they learn from other programs. We provide visual and music training, theatrical performance training, guest speaker seminars, experimental exercises, and a semi-drum corps experience with a performance at DCI Broken Arrow! This will be the first performance at a DCI show in Oklahoma from a home team since 1993! Our organization is a 501c3 non-profit, with a healthy set of goals, and a great support system. Check us out at ZephyrusArts.org

Could someone explain to me what SoundSport is? I can tell it’s a part of DCI but I didn’t know if they go on tour, compete in Open or World, or if they’re their own class. Google isn’t much help these days.

Google isn’t much help these days. From what I've gathered, it's a just a smaller circuit. You could consider it the tier below Open, but they also have their own competitions, and a number of them march woodwinds. Many of them are newly founded (like Zephyrus) and are working on making their way into OC. The fees and season are a lot shorter. I'm particularly attracted to Zephyrus because I have family in Tulsa and it will still allow me to work a few more weeks in the summer. I think it's an awesome way for anyone to start a corps, or for younger marchers who aren't ready for a long and expensive season to still get the drum corps experience.

While soundsport does have their own competitions, Zephyrus will be opting to attend dci events. Last year, they were allowed to perform as an exhibition at dci tour of champions in broken arrow, and this year they have plans for at least two other (big) unannounced locations. This is atypical for a soundsport though.

Ok this is an ancient thread! Does anyone know who choreographs for Zephyrus’ guard? I really liked that flag work!

I'm not making a new thread to announce this, but apparently Soundsport is opening up what is basically a scholastic circuit. From what they described in the video I saw it won't just include traditional indoor corps but also cheerleading units and dance corps? I have absolutely no idea how scoring or anything regarding that might work but it does certainly seem like an interesting idea.
