Why are the visitor stands at Dobyns-Bennett offset to the left (i.e., side 1) and why do they have a gap in the middle? The bleachers on side 1 on the visitor side are where the band sits. It’s directly across from the student section on the home side. The home side is huge and old, and there isn’t room for a 300+ member band. There are more stands for visitors, and there are stands in both end zones as well.

Judged simply as videos, an overwhelming majority of the submissions were pretty bad. While I prefer to watch high camera video so that I can see the overall visuals, people who don't regularly watch bands are likely to find such videos distant. Two-thirds of the screen is essentially blank space (the track below and the visitor stands above), and the performers are little more than dots.
(And to be frank: the high-camera visual content of most of the shows was nil. Definitely a case where close-ups would be better!)

Finally got around to watching DB’s performance. They absolutely should win. But I wish they used the stadium lights “strobing” for like big hits only or something. It’s a little much for the entire production.

The Results are In!!!
Back in April, we challenged marching bands across the country to create performances incorporating our music into their shows. The response blew us away and made for a heated competition, and the results are in!
And the winners are…
College (Division 1): Auburn University
College (Divisions 2 & 3): Eastern New Mexico University
High School (Large): Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN)
High School (Medium): TIE - Boerne High School (Boerne, TX) & Malverne High School (Malverne, NY)
High School (Small): Oakton High School (Vienna, VA)
If this is the first you’re hearing about this competition, here’s a little bit of background. Marching bands at high school and collegiate levels cranked their repertoires up to 11 to compete for nearly $200,000 in equipment by creating the most exciting, unique, and impressive performances incorporating our music.
Massive thanks to all who brought our music to their marching band programs, and congratulations to all the winners! The victors in each category will take home instruments and equipment thanks to our sponsors Tama - Bergerault USA, KHS America, Zildjian Company, D'Addario and Co., EVANS Drumheads, ProMark, and Gator Cases, in partnership with Sweetwater, Conn Selmer, and Hal Leonard.

PS- DB also won the fan favorite award for high schools. 💜

I've added the prize amounts to your quoted post in bold: The Results are In!!! ... College (Division 1): Auburn University - - $75,000College (Divisions 2 & 3): Eastern New Mexico University - - $40,000High School (Large): Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport, TN) - - $15,000High School (Medium): TIE - Boerne High School (Boerne, TX) & Malverne High School (Malverne, NY) - $15,000High School (Small): Oakton High School (Vienna, VA) - $15,000... PS- DB also won the fan favorite award for high schools. 💜 (Another $10,000 brings their total winnings to $25,000.)And Auburn also won fan favorite award for universities, so another $10,000 brings their total winnings to $85,000.Do we think Boerne and Malverne have to split the $15,000? Or will the sponsors pony up to get $15,000 to each of them? Total prizes awarded were $180,000 (increased to $195,000 if both medium schools get the full award). At the beginning of the announcement, Robert Trujillo says "We challenged ... bands ... to incorporate Metallica songs into their shows." That's my emphasis, because the way the rules were written seemed to strongly encourage bands who wished to participate to present shows consisting entirely of Metallica songs. And then 57 of the 102 competitive high school video submissions were of just one or two songs for a total of four minutes or less each. The also announcement says that 450 bands participated. That's odd, as there were only 104* high schools and 32 colleges with videos linked from the website. I wonder where "450" comes from. *Two of the 104 high schools only submitted videos in the "showcase" category.I had three of the small finalist high schools essentially tied, and Oakton was one of them. Among the medium finalist high schools, I had Kell and Desert Mountain in front with DeWitt not too far behind. Malverne I did have in the top third, but Boerne I had about 50th overall. Dobyns-Bennett was my top choice among the large finalist high schools and the one I picked as best among all high schools. (Pretty sure they were also the largest high school band.) Of those finalists I had Stephen Austin second and Lambert third. I have yet to watch the college bands.
