I am excited to hear many bands this season coming off of what a crazy year last year was,
Speaking of BOA specifically, I’m interested to see what Carmel does this heavy BOA season, I’m eager to see Jenison’s production as well as William mason and Centerville both from Ohio, Mason specifically getting that GE in prelims, I could see them taking advantage of that this season and working more on that part of their show. and Centerville working their colorful magic the past few years! I’m excited for Hebron specifically since they will be attending nats this year! As well as numerous other Texas bands attending! This year is gonna be a good year from everyone, a high scoring year? What are your guys thoughts ?

After Keller’s show reveal I’m really looking forward to seeing what they put out!
And ofc my home state bands like Byrnes, Catawba Ridge, and Wando (who hopefully can impress me more than last year)

Just from the groups we've seen theme/repertoire announcements from so far...
Gonna echo Keller.

The talent level in SC is rising every year with bands like Clover and Summerville coming back to BOA and Byrnes almost making GN finals, and the FM programs and Wando are all recovering well from their school splits. Really hoping Fort Mill can make a splash in Utah, and Summerville can do the same at Coastal Carolina U. Go SC band

I'll try to keep my list to those more outlier bands rather than those generally considered S or A tier. Because duh I'm looking to them too.
I'm very interested in seeing what Archbishop Alter brings once again this season. Feel like they can't top last season but I'm sure it will still be crazy entertaining.
Ready to see both Lakota's as they continue to step up and impress each season. Truly finished neck and neck last season!
Very interested in seeing if Mississippi keeps surprising us on a national scene this year as well. Who had them as a rising star state in their bingo? I sure didn't and love to see these new bands rise up.
Speaking of states that have several bands moving on up, Oklahoma. Yeah you have the BA, Owasso, and Mustang. But they've got some more bands that seem to be 'figuring it out' as it were. How many can now join those ranks of the casually known like Union is the question.
Signal Mountain has impressed me two seasons in a row and for a newer school look forward to seeing how far they can keep climbing. Fun and well performed shows give me good vibes for their future.
Lincoln (SD) seems to be on a bit of a hot streak and really looking forward to another blast of a show from them this year.
These are just the bands I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure more will creep in as I see more concrete lists and can point to groups that I go, 'Ouuu. Gotta make sure I catch them'.

The ISSMA calendar has their semi-state/state finals qualification the same weekend as the Super Regional in Indianapolis. It will be interesting to see which (if any) Indiana bands skip the state qualifier to go to the super regional.

A few are planning to do the opposite (so far Homestead, Greenwood, Greenfield Central). I know Brownsburg is planning to do both.

The contests I’m most likely to go to during the season are DFW and Prosper so I’m very excited to watch all of the bands competing there, Hebron and Keller going to Nats of course makes it that much more fun and exciting, but I love hearing the DFW area bands and so many of them are coming out to BOA contests this year!

I have to say I am excited to see how the Texas vs Indiana rivalry plays out at Grand Nationals this year. I am specifically looking at Carmel and Avon versus Hebron and The Woodlands. Until I see how the 2023 season progresses for these four bands, they are my top four picks for 2023 GN Champ.

Go Blue Springs and William Mason!

Go Blue Springs and William Mason! they are the likely candidates to round out the top 6! I’m curious if a CTJ, Round Rock, or maybe even Keller could build up momentum leading up to GN in November and jump into that top 6 category. They’re solid locks for finals imo, so I’m just wondering how high they can go! My title contenders would be those 4 bands mentioned too, as I’m sure it is for many people haha

I’m starting to really embrace my new home up here in NW Arkansas, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the Bentonville bands and the Oklahoma bands! I plan on attending some Texas contests as usual, but I also intend to see a few Oklahoma shows as well. And of course, I am very excited to see the bands at BOA Memphis, my hometown!

I’m most excited for my KY bands especially Campbell many of them have been improving rapidly and do great at the state and BOA shows. One band that I do wish would start preforming at BOA competitions is Ryle though they are roughly the same size as Campbell but and their largest local competition with each school consistently being within a point of each other at competitions.

Im mostly excited to see what and how UIL 6a Finals will pan out with so many newer programs rounding out the last season super strong. It’s going to be a blood bath!
BOA Nats is my second interest. Indiana vs anything non Indiana. Ive been vocal against BOA’s adjudication handbook with its subjective language towards Music while Visual getting more of an objective spin and score dominance.
Additionally, I’d be interested as to how the historical over rewarding of legacy designers plays out against the more modern and nuanced designers. .
I don’t see things changing much at Nats TBH. I.E. Carmel will put most fans to sleep musically (innovation, lack of brass valve demand and overly long power minor chord sustains with extensive melodic 90’s dissonance writing) while Gaines brings his design genius and scores amazingly!
My 2023 Pre season Ranking:
1 Hebron, TX (AAAA) 2 Vandy , TX (AAAA) 3 The Woodlands, TX (AAAA) 4 Avon, IN (AAAA) 5 Carmel IN AAAA) 6 Broken Arrow, OK (AAAA) 7 William Mason, OH (AAAA) 8 Ronald Reagan, TX (AAAA) 9 Vista Ridge, TX (AAAA) 10 Cedar Ridge TX (AAAA)

I'm honestly excited for both Hebron and Keller this season, but some local bands look good as well

These bands aren't as well known, But I'm really excited for Cedar Valley (Utah) this year. Their program grew immensely this year, and they will be competing in our 6A Open division (Same division American Fork, Westlake, and Davis compete in). I can't wait to see how they'll do, and I'm honestly expecting that they'll be solid candidates for one of the top 4 at state. (Sorry Skyridge and Farmington.)

I am so unbelievably excited for Lincoln this season. An absolutely phenomenal repertoire and an intimidatingly clean guard have certainly raised the hype! They’re going up against two former medalists at Iowa that both tend to have strong early seasons, but I can’t even pretend to worry about their placement. If last year and what I’ve seen so far this year stay consistent, they should have no problem at Iowa and Indy SR.

I’m actually very excited for Duncanville this year! I think their show “tag team”, is a very cool and interesting idea, and I could see them going very far with this show assuming they execute it well, which of course they will!

The streets are saying CTJ is goated No offense to them, but we hear this literally every year lol For them it will come down to the show they have! They’ve got the fundamentals down for everything else

Seemed like they have a playful show. Still don’t know what the show theme is yet but I do remember a cute little flamingo set. I’ll have to go back and rewatch the livestream

Every time I see CTJ I think, “Wait, wait, wait… I thought UIL specifically banned creative, entertaining shows?”
I don’t know how they and FloMo get away with it.

CTJ’s theme this year reminds me of Baldwinsville’s super fun flamingo show from last year. Can’t wait to see it!
