I’d just like to say that Texas band parents are always the most energetic and loud cheerleaders at GN. that is all After that long trek most are irritable, tired and ecstatic! 🤷♂️. GO TEXAS!

I’d just like to say that Texas band parents are always the most energetic and loud cheerleaders at GN. that is all Isn't it interesting how different that part of the band culture is from place to place? In KY we're usually pretty enthusiastic, similar to Texas, but in some places you just get a proud smile and golf clap [looking at you Indiana].

When Avon came to Texas in 2017 they got nothing but love! Personally their score seemed over inflated but it didn’t matter I’m the overall scheme of things. They absolutely showed up at (then) a recent SASR and we adopted them sons and daughters of Texas immediately! That is why I always am rooting for an Avon high podium! ❤️

James Bowie ❤️ Way to represent TEXAS band and the Top 1/4 of this competition! Amazing performance. Agreed. I really wish there were room for James Bowie in Finals - and there still very well could be - because they are a program I love so much. Everyone underestimates how much they pushed other TX bands into the 21st century - it was not just Bell leading the curve! The Dinkins/Shuttlesworth years offered groundbreaking designs for Texas at the time, matched with the excellent excellent musical prowess that those two always made sure was front & center - there's a solid decade, prior to the current amazing Texas surge, where Bowie was consistently a top 10 group in the country, year after year. Obviously, Dinkins passed away, and Shuttlesworth went to (opened, I think?) Glenn, and is now doing amazing amazing things at Coppell, but I still want to see a James Bowie that remains relevant and competitive in both the Texas & national scene. Their post-2016 shows are still a fresh voice in the Texas scene. I am happy to see that they should land at least close to Finals here.

Sorry Blurred Lines is not at all high school appropriate. What? Blurred Lines is the name of a prepackaged marching band show written by Rob Stein. You are thinking of the explicit pop song by Robin Thicke. Also, Warren Local sax soloist snuck the lick into there.

Just realized I had not posted my Panel 2 Rankings yet. It really is too bad that we once again have a very strong Class A contingent and that one of them will likely be left out. All of them should be proud of what they accomplished to end the season here at GN.
Panel 2 Current Rankings 1. Brownsburg 2. Homestead 3. Centerville 4. Rockford 5. Estill County 6. Beechwood 7. Archbishop Carroll 8. Chattahooche 9. Woodford County 10. Monrovia 11. East Clinton 12. Southwestern 13. Tri-Valley

As a Texas fan can someone explain the BOA multi - city or county accepted (A,AA, AAA and AAAA) marching band scope? More specifically the Township and County situations. Are these programs likened to Tarpon’s county charter set up? Specifically do they choose one school and filter music talents there? Do the students primarily rehearse in their primary high schools but host marching practice at another for logistics? I asked this same question many years ago and got many competing answers. Looking for clarification. Thanks So Tarpon Springs is awesome. I would never try to discredit the work those kids put in. That being said, they pull kids from all of pinellas county. So 41 schools, thousands of kids, and they compete in 2A. My only complaint is they should be 4A given that pool of kids to pull from. (And they don't pull the untalented kids that are just glad to be there).

I saw some of the commentary as I was reading on the beach (I had to toss that in there) and was pleased to see some positive response to Homestead. How confident are we that they will get into semis? That early spot (2nd band on panel 2) makes me nervous as I saw what such a spot did for them last season at the Indy Super. I'd love to watch them Saturday. Put my mind at ease.

Are these programs likened to Tarpon’s county charter set up? Specifically do they choose one school and filter music talents there? Do the students primarily rehearse in their primary high schools but host marching practice at another for logistics? I asked this same question many years ago and got many competing answers. Looking for clarification. Thanks In Michigan, many schools have started combining competitive band programs due to declining enrollment. Typically, there are several high schools in a Michigan school district, which leads to smaller enrollment at each school, even in large school districts. For example, the PCEP school district has Plymouth High School, Salem High School, and Canton High School. Combined, the school district has over 5,000 high schoolers, but each high school has <2,000 students. This is in contrast with districts that only have a single high school (like Rockford, Carmel or The Woodlands). While each individual school’s circumstances vary, many programs have combined for financial reasons. I surmise that is why Walled Lake is making its first trip to Nationals after a several year hiatus. Students typically rehearse at one of the high schools and, depending on the program, may be directed by one or more of the high school’s band directors. At least for the public schools, there are no “magnet” programs. Occasionally, students may choose to go to a different school because they have a better music program, but that is exceptionally rare. Just to clarify your comment on The Woodlands, it is part of Conroe ISD which has 6 high schools. Within the limits of The Woodlands itself are 2 high schools, The Woodlands and College Park.
More clarification regarding Kentucky for TXHillCountryBands - for a relatively small state in physical size, KY has 120 counties. Many decades ago most of the counties within the state consolidated into 1 school district and 1 high school. There are of course exceptions or certain towns that did not consolidate and kept their own independent school district. As the counties grow they do add additional high schools - for example North Hardin, Central Hardin, and John Hardin are part of the Hardin County School District, with the largest town in the county having a separate school district and high school - Elizabethtown. All 4 schools have separate band programs.
