Does anyone know of schools planning on competing in the Scholastic World class at WGI Dayton next April?
So far I'm thinking Lake Hamilton, AR; Cleveland out of NC, and Greenfield Central, IN. Anyone know if Avon is going or skipping?

Catawba Ridge will be competing in WGI Winds again this year in Scholastic Open. I recently was told that they plan to only field a group every other year as the off years they will be attending BOA Grand Nationals.
As for me, I will be at the Clayton, NC regional again this year annnd...maybe world championships. That is still TBD. I can't wait!

So far those are the only groups registered to compete in Scholastic World at any WGI show.

Westfield moving up in class makes sense after winning Open last year. wgi.org/winds/w-current-entries/Click in the "Show name" box, not "Event name" for each show. It will open up a box and show you the current groups signed up for each show. You can also see the guard and percussion entries by going through the drop down menu to regionals then current entries.

Which class and from what state and are they going to be at Dayton?

Lake Hamilton, Scholastic World, "Setting Sail." Or that's the theme, anyway, if not the exact title. For now, scheduled for going to Dallas Regional and Dayton.

Eva Independent Winds (WIO) — “Flawless”
Featuring music by Rhianna, Shirley Bassey, JVKE & Snarky Puppy.
The show is essentially about the process of turning carbon into diamonds.
According to their social media, they have nearly tripled in size since their debut season last year where they won Independent A (hence their reclassification to Open). Should be one to watch!

Reminds me of Sparkman's field show this past year, "Under Pressure". Excited to see what Eva does with it!

This might be a dumb question, but is there a specific reason or two on why there are so few Winds Groups in the US?

This might be a dumb question, but is there a specific reason or two on why there are so few Winds Groups in the US? Here are a few that I’ve heard: 1. Winds is still by far the newest division in WGI. It took awhile for percussion to gain traction back in the 90s as well. It will be interesting to see if Winds can follow a similar path as drums can. 2. There is a VERY vocal group of directors that have come out and said doing a marching activity during “concert band season” is basically the end of music education as we know it. I think that has scared off some people. 3. You need someone to run the groups and an already overwhelmed band director probably can’t add one more thing. A lot of schools have a separate percussion and color guard staff that can run the winter groups. They might not have a winds staff qualified and interested to do so. 4. Getting facilities to rehearse in is getting to be more and more of a challenge for scholastic and independent groups all over the country. There are plenty of other reasons but that’s a start.

Number 4 specifically is why for the group I work with our longest and generally most productive practice each week is on Sunday afternoons. That's the only time of the week where we never have to worry about fighting for gym time.

Sometimes it requires thinking outside the box. My kids' winter groups use the cafeteria and learn how to move tables around...

Yesterday at the Clayton, NC regional one of the warm up areas was Cleveland's cafeteria, which they sometimes practice in. I could not imagine fitting their floor and props into that space but they manage it.

Is the WGI-Winds semis available on Flo as a single event purchase or will we have to do the 7day trial nonsense?
