We are welcoming several new members to the CLUB this week. It’s not surprising after the crazy posting frenzy that’s been going on lately, but I specifically want to take this opportunity to welcome fellow #TeamTexas member Aaron Blackley aka abtwitch to the HornRank 1000 Posts Club!
Aaron is no stranger to marching band and he still wears a lot of hats when it comes to the activity. He marched in high school from 2013-2016 at Westwood in Austin where he played euphonium. He also went on to play euphonium, trombone and trumpet at ACU in Abilene where he was active in the marching band and the jazz band. Like many great Texas band kids do, Aaron also went back to his high school and worked as a tech for them for several years.
During his time with the Westwood Warrior Band, Aaron says his favorite marching show was their 2014 production “Fore!” which was an incredibly fun show (yes it was about golf) that has always been a favorite of mine as well! I also asked Aaron what his favorite high school band memory was and he said it was performing in BOA Atlanta Finals in 2015 with the best run of their season, right after having a disastrous run in prelims, and making BOA finals for the first time in school history.
Aaron stays busy now with his full time job working at InterStellar BBQ in N. Austin (which also happens to be the #2 rated BBQ restaurant in Texas according to Texas Monthly Magazine), and he also works with General Effect Media where he is a writer and founding contributor, and he occasionally helps out with the liveblog over on TXBands.com as well.
Aaron’s other hobbies include listening to Audiobooks while on walks or roadtrips, going to craft breweries and “spreading the gospel of Curry Boys BBQ,” his goto lunch spot whenever he is in San Antonio.
I have known Aaron for quite a few years now and we always enjoy spending time watching Texas bands together every fall in Kelly Reeves stadium and in the Alamodome. I give him a hard time for sometimes being critical of the bands, but I know it’s because he loves the activity as much as I do and he just wants to see everyone performing at the highest level possible!
Welcome to the prolific posting club abtwitch !
