I'm actively bored so I might as well make this thread to see what others think and also to see which bands people think will make the trip to Indy soon
So here's mine:
Pella HS, IA (likely Class A champion) Kettering Fairmont HS, OH (idk if they've done Nats before) Grove City HS, OH South Jones HS, MS Wylie East HS, TX Coppell HS, TX Beavercreek HS, OH (obviously only if it doesn't conflict with IPE stuff and if the band director is up to it) Klein Oak HS, TX Tomball Memorial HS, TX Rouse HS, TX Pickerington Central HS, OH Fayetteville HS, AR Lewisville HS, TX Grants Pass HS, OR
Reply with the bands you think will make the trip sooner rather than later

I think Loveland H.S., CO is gonna make the jump at some point. They've been considering it for some time and it seems bound to happen. For Texas, some bands like Coppell and Rouse are only a matter of time. Cedar Park, Cedar Ridge, and Vandegrift are due for a return. I'd love to see a return for L.D. Bell as well, as they've been on their way up lately. Can't forget Winston Churchill, Wakeland, Keller Central... so many great options for returns! I would also really like to see how bands like John B. Alexander, Permian, or Roma would do. Lots of great Oklahoma bands are due. Coweta, Choctaw, Bixby, Southmoore... Mililani H.S., HI has to come back at some point, right? Here are some other regional bands I could see doing well (missing Ohio bands, I'll put those later): Blue Springs South H.S., MO Clovis H.S., NM Lincoln H.S., SD Papillion-La Vista South H.S., NE Pella H.S., IA Trumbull H.S., CT Speaking from an Ohio standpoint, there are a good number of bands I would like to see go. Here are some bands I'd be excited for, ranging from regional frequenters to occasional GN appearances to former BOA powerhouses to never having done BOA at all. All bands on this list catch my eye year after year across Ohio, particularly in OMEA. Amherst Steele H.S., OH (I have to shoehorn in my alma mater PLEASE DO BOA) Beavercreek H.S., OH Berne Union H.S., OH Brunswick H.S., OH Dublin Coffman H.S., OH Dublin Jerome H.S., OH Dublin Scioto H.S., OH Fairfield H.S., OH Grove City H.S., OH Hilliard Bradley H.S., OH Hilliard Darby H.S., OH Hilliard Davidson H.S., OH Hoover H.S., OH Kettering Fairmont H.S., OH Kings H.S., OH Licking Heights H.S., OH Louisville H.S., OH Medina H.S., OH Oak Hills H.S., OH Olentangy H.S., OH Pickerington Central H.S., OH Revere H.S., OH St. Edward H.S., OH Thomas Worthington H.S., OH West Clermont H.S., OH Westerville North H.S., OH Westerville South H.S., OH Van Buren H.S., OH All of these bands perform shows that I think would see some level of success in BOA. Some might even make semifinals at GN. However, a good number of these probably have never had any interest in attending GN (or doing BOA at all). Still a good list to keep an eye out for in the future, I think. The last Ohio band I'd like to see is not one that I think should attend GN right now, but in the fairly near future. Mentor H.S., OH is the only non-BOA competitive marching band in the state that would slot into BOA's AAAA class, yet they have spent a good number of years struggling competitively in OMEA. However, I thought their show this year was a huge step up and they're definitely moving in the right direction. If things fell into place in the right way, I could see Mentor rising up these ranks quickly. I think they have most of the parts, they just need to put them all together.

Still a good list to keep an eye out for in the future, I think. The last Ohio band I'd like to see is not one that I think should attend GN right now, but in the fairly near future. Mentor H.S., OH is one of four competitive marching bands in the state that would slot into BOA's AAAA class, yet they have spent a good number of years struggling competitively in OMEA. However, I thought their show this year was a huge step up and they're definitely moving in the right direction. If things fell into place in the right way, I could see Mentor rising up these ranks quickly. I think they have most of the parts, they just need to put them all together. Mentor was much improved this year over 2021 and 2022, but as you say, they have a ways to go. I'd like to see them continue improving and also grow to something like their pre-pandemic size. I would love to see what BOA makes of a band like Amherst Steele with no flutes or clarinets! The best band from northeast Ohio for three straight years, and close to the for most of the past decade. Berne Union could win Class A in many Regionals and in some years would have an outside shot at being at class-qualifier into semifinals at Grand Nationals. Van Buren conceivably could do the former but not the latter. Based on the past three years, another tiny band who might challenge for Class A at the right Regional is Eastern Brown. Many of the other bands on your list would at least acquit themselves well a Regional like Obetz or Toledo, and although most would struggle to qualify for finals there, it wouldn't be completely out of the question. If Westerville South marks the low end of your list, then based on this year's performances, from OMEA's Class AA, I'd add Sycamore, Olentangy Liberty, Middletown, Loveland, and Newark of bands who rarely if ever have appeared in BOA events in the past decade. Of the 121 bands at this year's OMEA state finals, I think there are six or seven that might have qualified for Grand Nationals semifinals based on score, but one of those was Miamisburg, and as you know they were a few places shy (but made it in as a class representative). Grove City would do extremely well in AAA Grove City attended the Indianapolis Super Regional just four years ago and it didn't work out. Their musical execution scored at a finalist level. Their visual execution and their general effect did not. In my opinion, they would have been better off presenting a show more in their own style, like those they did in 2016 or especially 2017, both of which had much higher visual content and were not so far behind 2019 in musical execution. Also I don't think they'd ever been to a Super Regional before, only to Regionals, in most of which they could probably make finals and win best music. But they deserve credit for challenging themselves with something different. Their post-pandemic shows have been much more static than what they presented in 2018 and before, although this year had a little more motion.

From a Kentucky standpoint, I would love to see Madison Central put a foot into the BOA world. I believe they may have in the past, but it's been a minute.
Then, more returners than first-timers, Adair is an interesting question mark. They were not fully returned to their former glory in 2023, being rather ignominiously 5-pointed at state by Murray, but they were much, much improved over 2022 and are on the correct trajectory. Fingers crossed we see them at Nats in 2025 or even earlier. I would expect the aforementioned Murray back quite soon... they really should have sat out 2022 and come in 2023, but hindsight, etc. Rumor has it Campbell County is planning to become every-year attendees, so that could be fun. North Hardin was somewhat improved in 2023, but still a long way off from Nats, I would imagine.
But the big one... when will Lafayette make their move? They've been great the last few years, in my opinion solid semifinalists. What isn't clear to me is how their community would view that... to me, going to Indy and making Semifinals is a great achievement, but the 'Pride of the Bluegrass' may not want to chance it till they feel they have a solid shot at Finals... and I don't know, maybe they would have? Fishers wasn't on some unattainable, other level from Lafayette.
Maybe they chance it soon?

I’ve come to realize after graduating just how strange that was. I probably would’ve preferred to have them, personally, but it’s made for some very strong brass moments.

The Travelers Rest SC band director has said a few times he wants to take us Grand Nats within the next 3-5 years, hopefully it happens.

Trumbull has expressed interest in attending within the next few years, but that program has quite a bit of rebuilding to do first (that is, if they’re looking to be competitive — they obviously could just go for the experience!).
