I am very much missing marching season. Post a show that has been on your mind/stuck in your head/a favorite/whatever you want for us all to enjoy while we wait for the first band to step off in the 2024 season! I'll go first: Owasso 2015 Elsa's is one of my fav pieces of music ever, and I love the how uniquely it is translated into this show. And that sound!

I was recently turned onto Thomas Newman's Meet Joe Black soundtrack and I am obsessed with "That Next Place",
which was used fittingly in Harrison 2007's Luna Sonare,
but I am blown away by Norwell 2005's Circadian Rhythms use.
Harrison really drew out the sentiment of the piece quite well in Luna Sonare, utilizing it as a soundscape for the spacey theme. Norwell's, though, deepens the grandiose with the simple, but stunning guitar arrangement along with adding a dimension with the sung portion. I love how the arrangement just furthers to that corniness Newman vibe in his music.
Fun fact: Norwell director at the time? Doug Hassell, currently at Carroll. Arranger? Mike Pote at Carmel.

I have multiple shows on my mind at the moment so here's some of them:
Hebron 2019 - 2023 Carmel 2021 and 2023 Avon 2019 and 2023 Vandegrift 2019 - 2023 Westwood 2019 Flower Mound 2016 and 2021 Marcus 2023 Floresville 2023 American Fork 2023 Round Rock 2021 Coppell 2022 and 2023 JB Alexander 2023 Mayfield (KY) 2022 they went through a once in a lifetime event on 12/10/21 and made KMEA state semifinals after their town was destroyed by a mile wide monster with 190 mph winds. (The school wasn't hit directly but I still feel like I should include this) Mckinney North 2023 Crazy good trumpet screamers Bridgeland 2022 and 2023 Cy-Fair 2023
This is all for now

Boiling Springs HS 2009 "Boiling Point" AKA 212 with 212 members in the band. I was there during 5A Prelims/Finals at SC State and honestly thought BS should of beaten Wando for first, but that's just my opinion.

Rosemount 2016 - "Love at First Bite"
This is my favorite show from Rosemount in their pre-Wes Cartwright era. Powerful sound and a clear story. This show was designed by Frank Sullivan (Tarpon Springs show designer) and while you can kind of tell that it's a trademark Sullivan design, Rosemount did a great job selling it in their performance. It was a shame they fell from 3rd to 7th in finals at St. Louis though.

I have had 2 shows on my mind recently. First one is North Shore HS 2023 - Sonic Fracture This show specifically gave me 2016 vibes from them when they made State Finals for the first (and only time for now ) time. I just love this show from start to finish and they definitely deserved higher than 26th. Second one is actually my junior year from Lumberton HS 2017 - Above and Beyond We had so much on our backs going into that year, having a band parent steal over $70,000 the year prior, and then Hurricane Harvey. However, we truly went above and beyond, and advanced to State for the first time in 37 years. This show is almost always on my mind because even though we had so much against us, we came out on the top as better human beings. Nowadays when I get those thoughts in my mind on if I can/cant do it, I always go back to this show and see that no matter what comes in your way, if you put 100% into it, you will overcome the challenge and be a better version of yourself. (Thats also my motto for the 2024 year )

Tarpon Springs 2008 - Art at the Speed of Life: two words...... Bass Clarinets! Lake Central 2014 - 3 Hours: Chills...Such a beautiful show. James F. Byrnes 2022 - Scarlett Confidential: by far one the greatest show of 2022. The trumpet solo👌. The color guard costumes, the theme, the staging, the music = Chef's kiss. IDC they should have made a 3-way tie with 12 place. Broken Arrow 2017 - Age to Discovery: Return to Xeno: One of the greatest space show imo Center Grove 2005 - FBIWinston Churchill 2001 - Under Construction and 1997 - Shostakovich Images: I just love Shostakovich Spring 2000 - Alter State Paul Laurence Dunbar 2005 - Celestial Bodies Bassett 2006 - Phenomenon

I'll use this thread to pimp one of my all time favorite Homestead shows, one they did before their return to BOA. The Lost Melody, 2012. I think this show was better than the one that won State in 2011. At ISSMA State Finals it finished 2nd by 0.45 to Carmel's spider show, and defeated Avon. I'm sure it won't come through on such a video, but this horn line was superb. Probably the last Homestead brass that made me say "Wow!" I wish they had gone to BOA with this one.
*Sorry about the pre-show stuff. Not my upload.

One of my favorites from the past-the last from ISSMA legend Jon Sutton before he retired, 2009 Greenwood's "Winds of Change".
Some of the older ISSMA heads can probably name several iconic Sutton Greenwood shows from the past (2006 "The Rainbow Revisited" comes to mind), but for my money's worth, the collection of songs in the show are some of my favorite. The show does stall after the Air on G String string in the Third Wind portion, but the straightforward Blowin' in the Wind arrangement is absolute Greenwood magic. I especially love the entire closer- clunky execution on the content-side perhaps, but I love how the drill really embodies the Dust in the Wind piece with the fluctuating circles before coming back together as a square for the big musical hit. My favorite part, though, is the ending punch that's Bette Middler's Wind Beneath My Wings! The epilogue just pops out of nowhere but it's arranged so fantastically from being a ballad to a bombastic piece to cap off the show. It's not the best Greenwood show, but it's certainly way up there with my favorites.

It remains as the most wonky score sheets I’ve ever seen.

I think about Rock Island IL 2022 several times a week and whenever I do I get emotional. I watch it when I need to cry. It’s just so sincerely put together and performed. I would like to meet whoever designed that show and shake their hand.
