Does anyone else feel like it would be a good idea to increase the top 30 rankings to top 50? There are just so many bands in BOA and many of these top tier bands score so close to one another. It would be cool to see those high scoring Texas bands from San Antonio that didn’t make the top 17-ish at that competition still have a chance to be ranked, or maybe some of those semifinalist bands at grand nationals. Just a thought! Or maybe a thread to rank the bands based on their state? A possible top 10 texas, indiana, california, ohio, etc thread?

Yes but also if your band is not attending Grand Nats, it sometimes gets slotted lower or somewhat forgotten. A top 50 could better represent those as well.

It'd be a nice idea, but in reality, it's more difficult than you think it is. There's just too much volatility at the moment for Hornrank to expand beyond just the top 30 they have now. Jeremiah, for one thing, is some kind of god for doing a lot of things at once: CS degree at Mizzou, former head drum major at Music City, tour prop manager at The Academy, running the BOA live blogs- if not, taking pictures for Hornrank (that means he's there at the BOA events every weekend!) among running this website. I have no idea what the other staff members on Hornrank are up to, but I can assure you that they're as busy.
Even over at the former website of IM.com, where there was a similar staff-polling system, it was difficult for the staff to gather their polls week after week with them having families and obligations in life. They cared immensely about their results to the point of watching videos and delaying poll releases when everyone was busy. The website and polls were a massive strain on them as they grew older. I can't imagine but the Hornrank feel similar especially when most of them are either in college or are about to graduate.
Not that 50 isn't a bad idea; just there isn't wide enough of an audience for that.

We've kinda accidentally increased it to 32, plus the first out, so we're essentially at 33. I could see some further expansion over time, but the ~30 number was selected because the idea of the rankings is if every single band in the nation went to grand nats, these would be the ones to make semifinals.
